I’m so sorry to all of the artists right now who, in addition to having all of your sacred spaces invaded by AI, now also have to deal with false accusations of AI use and the anxiety of wanting to put out work, but not wanting people to mistakenly think you used it or to have more of your work scraped and stolen and fed into the machinery. It’s such a nasty byproduct of an already terrible situation, and while people are rightfully on the lookout for AI images and video right now, I see a lot of people making blind accusations towards artists with little to no understanding of what AI imagery actually looks like. I’m seeing a lot of this especially directed towards CGI artists, and photo editors, but it’s everywhere. Thank god for undersketches, and layers, and timelapses, and all of the other tools that help us show that we completed our own work. Hang in there. I wish I could say it will get better, and I don’t know that, but I do want you to hear it from someone at least that I think you should keep creating in spite of AI, rather than stop creating because of it. ❤️

And if you think an artist used AI but you don’t have a really good case for it, at least consider the harm it can do to their work if you’re wrong, and focus that energy towards places it will help more anyway like fighting against data center placements, booing the people who openly use AI to make it social poison that people start to avoid, kindly letting your mutuals know if they’ve unknowingly shared an AI image, emailing your local businesses and asking them to take down their AI flyers or offering to make them a replacement, things like that. There are lots of ways to fight it and exert a sense of control that does not hurt artists who aren’t even using it to begin with.
