Timocco Home Edition is a unique interactive platform designed to motivate children to improve their cognitive and motor skills while playing fun, non-violent games.

This article is about a year old and it talks about a play intervention that uses a technology similar to a Wii, but it uses both hands. Through this intervention children are working on motor control and cognitive skills. With the rise of electronic in our country this intervention would be super useful for kiddos who prefer electronics or don’t seem interested in “traditional” play.

This page on AOTA’s site gives resources for OT’s to learn about bill coding for ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT, and others. This is useful for new OTs who have not worked with a specific type of billing. This information will be very important in our practice to bill for services and equipment.

This link is to a page on AOTA’s website that is about reaction to intervention (RTI). “ RtI is a multi-tiered approach to service delivery that encompasses general and special education”. In other words, it is a method of service delivery that is derived from the Individuals with Disabilities Education ImprovementAct (IDEA) that looks to address the need of students with, and at risk, of learning disabilities. Resources are provided on the page for both practitioners and clients.

Kind of wildcard, kind of AAC, lots of forward thinking. This device is a small headset that attaches to certain points of the brain. This device can actually transmit brain waves into actions with the computer. As far as future uses, the possibilities are unlimited, but this device would be groundbreaking in terms of turning thoughts into word for individuals who are non-verbal. It would completely cut out the middle men like eye-gaze and scanning. It’s incredible to think technology like this would be used in future years for clients.

SPED Pad is a Special Education Tablet bundled with 100s of Special Education Apps for Therapists, Teachers and Students.

Unit 3: This is a tablet similar to the look of iPad but comes with over 100 applications for the user to use that are designed to help with communication, productivity, and education. . These applications are “designed by therapist and teachers”. The settings are adjustable to the user so that only certain applications show when that user is selected. This device would benefit the same users of iPads, however, it comes with more specific applications and can be useful in limiting distracts in terms of unneeded applications.

Augmentative communication (AAC for short) is an alternative way to help students and adults with language disorders use expressive language or receptive language. Augmentative communication can be accomplished through assistive technology devices such as computers or hand held devices.

I found this today in class after watching the video on Proloque2go. This site gives various apps that act as augmentative communication devices on iPads. all of the apps vary in format and they give a variety of options to accommodate budgets. The page lists the name of the app, the price, the company, and rating in the app store. The downfall to this is that these apps are for iPads/iPhones and in the apple store.

These two articles are about different ways someone with a prosthetic can use touchscreens and other devices that require fine motor skills. One uses the motors in the prosthetic to sense muscle movement from remaining extremity and uses that to produce finger movements. The other article is a wrist band that allows users to make more precise fine motor movements.

This short article Tells about a new app available for android users that helps improve the speed and accuracy of voice recognition. This app would be especially beneficial to individuals who have fine motor impairment or a difficult time typing on a phone/tablet keyboard. This app my also be less irritating to the user than the original software in the phone as it have been proven to be 20.4 percent more accurate

This is simply a page that tells you all the accessibility features and how to use them on an iPhone. We discussed in how apple phone are very accessible but it is often unknown by users. This lists all of the accessibility feature available on iPhones and iPads and one some you can get a description of what that setting is and what it could be used for. One that I thought was interesting and we didn’t go over in class was the Guided Access - this allows uses to “restrict” themselves to one app and to “block off” parts of the screen that are irrelevant to the user at that time.

Although sometimes awkward, sexual activity is an ADL and shouldn’t be overlooked when relevant to a client. This site gives multiple sources for all realms of sexual activity and sexuality for people living with disability. Examples are “mobile women: sexuality and relationship” which is source for women using wheelchairs, “sexuality and disability”, “Sex education for physically disabled teenagers”, and many many more. In addition, the site offers a training course for professionals and professional development courses.
