A few words from sobhhï.

Over the past years of releasing predominantly solo projects, I feel that I have had a chance to comprehensively reflect on and journal so many things: My musical identity; my approach to writing and mixing; procuring aesthetics that tell the story. These are now things I can navigate with my eyes closed. November 18th will mark the three-year anniversary of my very first release, the RED I EP. Because of the song “fiending” from RED I, I was able to get a start in the alternative R&B genre and eventually find my way to where I am now.

PLEASURES is an EP where I’ve gone outside my solo dolo comfort zone and collaborated with some of my favorite artists. Because of our collaboration, I’m honored to say these guys are my friends now, too.

I first heard Maxxcupid in 2015 on SoundCloud, with his song “Choosin’”. Years later, I was revisiting my SoundCloud likes and rediscovered his music. When I came across his more recent track, “Looking For”, it was obvious this guy really got it. I DM’d him on Instagram to show him love and that led us to our collaboration, “use you”. I feel like he deserves a lot more attention and I’m hoping our work together can shine some light on how talented he really is.

Charlie first heard my music on dynmk, shortly after the release of RED II, and reached out over Instagram. Badawi, Nivo, and I all happened to be in LA for a Spotify Secret Genius session. We all ended up linking. Since then, Charlie has become one of my closest friends in the industry. He has introduced me to many people and we always connect when I’m in LA. We recorded “who you claim?” together in late 2018. Coincidentally it was in the same studio that BlueFace uses—he actually happened to be logged into his SoundCloud when we arrived. While I was tempted to repost one of my songs on his profile, I logged him out before we started. Anyway, I need the universe to run me back that karma.

NHYN—that’s bro for real and inner circle NUIT SANS FIN. Our history and adventures together are a much longer story, and yet they are just beginning. We recorded “sedatives” in Badawi’s room on a very late night in June after a full day of food, drinks, hookah, and fried chicken. Deep in the pandemic. And again later that month, after having cigars and a 3am conversation off a hotel balcony in Dubai, we recorded NUIT V. It’s an acronym: Nights up in the Five. Five is the hotel in Dubai we were in that night and many other nights that summer.

It was an honor to work with individuals I respect so much. And it won’t be the last time.
