Today, in Neal Robinson’s graduate design studio, students presented their latest proposals for a new City Hall for Burning Man/Black Rock City, NV. The final projects will be presented Dec18, 2018 in a public review. Stop by Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning to see where they land.
We’re tackling something new here at n_space. Frita Batidos, a cuban inspired street food restaurant in Ann Arbor, MI, (an n_space project) has commissioned us to supervise and act as design architect for the rehab, branding and staging of a unique new “food truck" The client came to us after purchasing a used Airstream “International” (1979) that had been converted for use as a special events coffee and catering vehicle for another notable Ann Arbor restaurant. It’s a bit beat up and definitely has its fair share of bumps, bruises and structural “issues”. However, with a little love and some serious elbow grease, we’re confident it will shine proudly once again. Its first appearance is scheduled for Detroit, MI in 2019. We’ll post more pics here as the project tracks forward.

At N_space architectures, education is valued as much as practice and we do our best to conflate the two. As part of that enrichment, Neal Robinson led a spring, study-abroad studio to visit the public works of Carlo Scarpa- an Italian master of design/build materials and scale. For 30 days, Neal and 12 students enrolled in the architecture program at the University of Michigan, roamed Italy by train, bus, boat, and hiking shoes to visit and document his work and the work of his students. Have a look at the studio’s Instagram feed to get of feel for the experience.

This color palette for Iorio’s Gelateria in East Lansing, MI, is one of my favorites to date. It’s bold, icy, clean and harbors a punch. Sometimes all the fretting and sampling pays off. #melikey
It was a fun night at the local chapter of the American Institute of Architects. Our Iorio’s Gelateria project in Ann Arbor, MI was awarded for design excellence. We’re looking forward to Iorio’s No.2 in East Lansing, MI.
