Hi! This is a weird ass little book written by Mark Twain at the end of his life which is full of silly gags and goofy gays and a lot of nihilism and solipsism! It’s been re-written to avoid controversy and later revealed as fraud, turned into a claymation scene falsely labeled as the “creepiest scene in a kids movie”, and now I gush about the characters on my silly blog sometimes.

One of my mutuals is filling my dash with Mythbusters posts and while I was ABSOLUTELY raised on those guys, I also love talking about Adam's current presence online. Because he's the only "celebrity" I trust. He's so open about his whole life's journey, who he has been in the past and mistakes he's made, how he grew up as the weird kid with undiagnosed ADHD. And you can really tell in the last couple years how he's accepted and embraced the way his own brain works. He supports his sons who want to go into art, and doesn't use their names publicly. He's been vocal about his support for the lgbt, trans, poly, heck even the furry communities (he praised furries as the one community who really knew how to pay their artists what they deserve). If you ever need to feel comforted about your place in the world as a nerd and as an artist I can't recommend enough to look up a playlist of his talks from the past decade.

His book is the only memoir i have 3 copies of and actual reference as a manual on how to do shit. His channel and work has taught me a thousand times more about how to live as a maker than some of the most "normie" self help books ever have. I actually am very honest with people IRL about how much of my skillsets and aproach is attributed to what I learned from Every Tools a Hammer. I recomend it to interns who struggle with our fast and lose project assignments. I even got my family to read it as a lot of us are makers and work in chaos driven fields.

I listen to his stuff with Tested so much that it became the sound we use when my dogs need soothing during storms.

Heck... I've watched his 10 minute+ video about the change in the papermate mechanical pencil he likes because its a favorite of mine and my only response was a conspiratorial "I KNEW they changed something!!!".

Tested has enough integrity that its been my 1st line of review when my work field shifts technology (because no other tech groups were HONEST about Magic Leap, while Tested gave the most objective pros/cons list). While some would say thats because they want to make money, I think its more so because Adam seems to very much value honesty and transparency in his work/team.

To anyone who hasent checked out his post Mythbusters career (even if Tested doesnt touch your interests) I HIGHLY suggest his book "Every Tool's a Hammer: Life is what you make it". The audiobook is awesome.

If you dont have the money for that, as far as life lessons go, check out the videos for Tom Sach's "10 Bullets". He references Tom Sach's work a lot and even has a whole section devoted to 10 bullets in ch3 of his book. I have the lessons learned from this on small index cards throughout my living spaces.

Fr the only thing stopping me from writing in my copy of Every Tool's a Hammer is that it's a signed tour copy. Amazing book.
