He was admitted as an orphan with ulna and radius fractures last spring. After 57 days in our care, he was released in Matthews at the end of July. He was admitted again in June of this year, so that was certainly a successful rearing and release. It’s always nice to know that our nestlings are surviving. This specific bird was not only raised at CRC (he was about 4 weeks old when he arrived), but he also had two major fractures. Unfortunately, we cannot teach them to avoid cars. /////////////////////////////////////////// Red-shouldered hawk patientNC... He was diagnosed with bilateral tarsometatarsus fractures. About 5 weeks ago, we surgically repaired both fractures. This short video shows the removal of the external fixation from the right leg. We removed the one from the left leg last week. Pretty amazing to go from two broken legs to healed and perching in less than 6 weeks!
