Jack is commonly shown as "dumb" when really he's incredibly forgetful. He'd hyperfixated on ghosts (especially tearing them apart molecule by molecule), and tends to be very loud. In the first episode, he was so focused on either his ghost hunting equipment or a story he was telling about his childhood (that went off on a tangent almost immediately) that he didn't notice the ghosts. His overeagerness in college led to his friend Vlad getting blasted by their Proto-Portal, and he and his wife installed the On/Off buttons for their full portal on the inside. At least to me, he comes off as an intelligent man whose combined-type ADHD went undiagnosed, untreated, and unaccommodated for his whole life.

The ecto-american joke is fucked up considering how hard the show tried to push the "not all ghosts are bad" but only managed to show us like 2 examples in all 3 seasons

but basically- this post is most likely based on the "We prefer the term Ecto-American" joke "Ecto-American" being a play on the term "Afro-American", the joke being equivalent to "Don't call them 'black' they are 'Afro-Americans' now" the joke isn't supposed to show the Fentons as horrible racists, it's meant to show the evil ghosts as overly sensitive crybabies who view everyone as racist, the joke has never been on the side of the ghosts here aside from this one insensitive joke the word "ghost" is never painted as a racial slur

also comparing a slur with a horrific bloody history to a word they say at least a thousand times per episode is kind of weird
