If you have something about not writing ince.st or "not romanticizing" it and you write a targ.ary.en i might not write with you/follow back given how realistically unavoidable the topic is and how normalized and even encouraged it is inside of the family. This is for both our comfort as terms like "romanticized" mean different things to different people. Obviously this is messed up stuff, but for example, bry.nde.n/shi.er.a is a canon romantic relationship. Tthey were half-siblings, in love and it's a major part of both of their characters and histories. Would writing that accurately to canon be "romanticizing"? If I see that kind of language I just assume the whole topic upsets you and avoid interaction to honor your boundaries, but I'm always happy to hash it out/get clarification.

Her chest physically recoils at the callous mention of Jaehaerys' murder. She has to tell herself that he did not intend to be so cold, to remind her of the cruel way her grandson had been butchered in the night. He wouldn't. "I merely suggest that we take the time that Rhaenyra's council will surely need to regroup after Princess Rhaenys' death to spare some thought for the smallfolk, Aemond," Alicent murmurs softly. It would have been her first move as REGENT--had she not been set aside.

"Without the peoples' support, victory will never be in our grasp." Had they all forgotten who had been operating the kingdom while her husband withered and died? Who had sat in his seat and made critical choices and listening to the voices of those she deemed WISEST?

She allows herself to be stopped, feeling his hands grip her shoulders lightly. He leans in and she blinks at him, her eyes searching his face for any trace of the little boy she had LOVED so. Her eyes widen--his words cut to her core. It was not enough to be denied the ability to rule as regent, but even her council was being rejected. He wouldn't listen to her, and they would all DIE for it. Though her eyes glimmer with rising tears, her jaw tenses and she gives a little nod. Curt.

"As you wish, your grace." Her words are delivered with ice and she brushes past him, keeping her chin up.

He watches helplessly as she goes, lost as to why she is so hurt when everything he does is to shield her from harm. But then the anger sets in again. Familiar and safe, it has been what kept him from all harm for so long. For far longer than even her care had. He bursts into action then, long loping gait closing the distance between them until he is uncomfortably close. He was not ignorant to the change in how she looked at him since Lucerys' death. How they all looked at him. The Septons' would say that the love of the Mother was endless, but he sensed at least that his own's was coming to its end. She was too pious to love one the gods reviled. Besides, none of them could be wanted, and no truly loving mother would bemoan the lives of strangers while her own children fought for their very lives.

He waited until they were inside the family chambers before he starts on her, uninterested in having an audience for family matters.

"You treat me with contempt for doing what you wanted of me. For doing what it takes to keep you and Aegon and Helaena and Jaehaera alive. What do you think will happen? Hm? If we are to wait? If we are to give them time to regroup? To secure her position Rhaenyra will have to kill us all to ensure none of us can be rallied around — yes even Helaena and Jaehaera. This is a course that was set the moment Aegon was born." He makes sure she is looking at him, seeing him. With her large beautiful eyes so full of grating pity and self serving sorrow. She weeps for everyone but him. She mourns Aegon of all the miserable wretches on this loathsome planet but not for him the one who is condemned to only find his worth in the violence she so reviles.

"Loathe me for it all you wish, stare down your nose at me for my cruelty but understand that this is what was always going to happen. I have no purpose, no course I can take, but to wage this war and protect our family. It is I and Vhagar that are the only reason the Keep still stands, it will be me who fights and bleeds and risks my life day after day so you may sit here in comfort and bemoan how little I care for people who would gladly butcher you the children you care for to protect their own lives. You had twenty years to try to prevent this, you did nothing. You have no right to act as if I am the beast here. Look at your father, the council, to Aegon. I am doing my duty because I would prefer not to have my head on a spike. Consider the thought for the people spared. Now I must wonder if you will spare one for the son sets himself between you and the enemy."

He has gone too far. He has said what has been boiling in him since he came home with Lucerys' blood on his hands and saw the light leave her eyes when she looked at him. When he realized Jaehaerys had been killed in his stead. When Aegon laughed at him. When he ruined Aemond plan and stole the glory of his kill. Aemond was a kinslayer now two times over and had nothing to so for it but a regency with a council of fools and the contempt and second guessing of his mother. The mother who he wanted to hold him, to ask him if he was alright, to tell him it would all be fine even if it was a lie. Once she had taken a knife to Rhaenyra for him, where had that gone?

Aemond smiles blandly, neutral and relaxed, a predator watching prey. The Ironborn are savages, but useful ones, and Maron is too intelligent to be disregarded. Intelligent men were as useful as they are dangerous, best to keep him close for now. Without him his people of little concern, so best to keep him within executioner's reach.

"My sight is quite clear. I know precisely who my enemies are. The Whore my sister and all those who support her. Everyone who is a true servant to the Iron Throne has nothing to fear, only those who choose to follow the pretender will be put to the sword — after they watch all they hold dear burn."

His smile becomes genuine then, and much worse. " A purging of the untrustworthy is worth a few scorched fields and so long as the people understand where their loyalties should be there will be plenty left whole. Those who prove especially loyal may find themselves better off after such a scouring." Aemond played idly with the sphere that symbolized his place on the council. "Tell me, how long is it to sail from the Iron Islands to the mainland."

The juxtaposition of them was strange yet entirely fitting. Alicent, sitting in front of her vanity mirror, and her ever doting son standing behind her, brush in hand as he worked his way undoing braids and untangling curls. She smiled, a small and melancholic curl of her lips. "This brings back memories," she commented, looking at her son's eye through his reflection in the mirror. "Do you remember? You would never let anyone but me brush your hair when you were younger."

She wished she could go back to those times. Back to when it was Aemond sitting in front of her and she was the one brushing through stubborn knots. Things had been so much easier back then, even if they were never truly easy to begin with. "When did that ever stop?"

He worked methodically, reveling in quiet pleasure as he meticulously freed is mother's beautiful curls. It was soothing work, rewarding work. His mother deserved to be looked after and tended to. She worked so hard and was so under appreciated.

"All of the maids and nurses were too rough," He murmurs, eyes never leaving his work "they caught on every tangle." .

He missed her combing his hair, missed her uncomplicated affection. He picks his words and tone very carefully, he does not wish to hurt her but it stings that she doesn't remember. "After I lost my eye. The maester didn't allow even my hair to be washed for three days after lest the motions on my scalp pull at the wound. Then it was 3 weeks before I could truly comb through it, lest it pull. After that I combed my hair myself."
