My heart and thoughts are with the friends & families of those who were attacked in Colorado Springs. There is no sense to be made of such an ignorant act of hate and violence.

As we all settle in this year to observe a day of gratitude, I want to share some of what I am thankful for.

• My family. Near or far, by blood or by happenstance, you are all appreciated and loved more than you can ever know.

• My friends. You have been with me through the good times and the bad, you’ve shown me love and support beyond measure, and I only hope I can someday return the favor.

• My job. As much as I might complain about it, I am employed and in this time of uncertainty, it is truly a gift.

• My health. As many aches and pains as I may have, I am actually pretty healthy and that is a blessing in itself.

This year has been a mess, and I truly hope that as you celebrate Thanksgiving in whatever way you desire, you stay safe and that you are well and happy and surrounded by the love of family and friends, regardless of their proximity.
