While New Orleans has always had a strong skateboarding scene, there hasn’t been a place for skaters to really call their own – until now. The skate park is the skater’s sanctuary – a place to practice, play, and congregate in. Skateboarders in New Orleans will be happy to know that Parisite, an entirely skater-built park located at 3400 Paris Street in Gentilly is the city’s first official public skate park. The “green streetcars” of New Orleans, the 1923 vintage Perley H. Thomas cars, are New Orleans icons, known worldwide. If you spend some time Uptown, along the tracks of New Orleans Regional Transit Authority’s St. Charles line, you may come across a smaller green streetcar, moving up and down the line, with a “NOT IN SERVICE” sign up front. That car is NORTA #29, the oldest streetcar in New Orleans.
