An elder from the Masjid was looking a little upset and distressed so I asked him if everything is okay, he said its fine and that he just wanted to be alone, so I sat beside him and carried on reading the book I had with me. After a few minutes passed he asked if I could get some water for him and then began talking to me. We spoke about random stuff for a short time and then he began speaking to me about his wife; that she had done much good for him, that his children are only good people; firstly by the Permission of Allaah and then solely due to his wife’s amazing character and eemaan, that she had helped him physically, mentally and spiritually to the point he said that he wouldnt even be a quarter of the man he is today if it wasnt for her. He gave me a lot of advice based on personal experiences for future references and honestly I left with nothing but speech filled with wisdom.

The thing is throughout this entire conversation, he had tears in his eyes, I was a little confused so later on I asked around only to find out that his wife had passed away sometime ago, may Allaah have mercy on her and allow them to reunite in His beautiful Paradise.

Lesson to take here is you see… this is the beauty of a marriage established upon Islaam, even after death, so many benefits can be taken from their marriage and so much love remains solely due to the piety and righteousness of their spouses.

It’s crazy, I wrote this almost a decade ago and today, it’s with such a heavy heart to say that this elder from our community passed away. Whenever I went to the masjid he was there, always. He was always there at the front row, be it ramadhan or not, fajr or asr, if anyone is guaranteed to be there, it would be him. Such a heartbreaking loss for our community.

O Allah, forgive him and have mercy on him. Give him strength and pardon him. Be generous to him and widen for him his grave and shed light upon him in there. O Allaah take his attachment to the masjid and place it on his scale of good deeds and pardon him for any of his sins and shortcomings

ينبغي للعبد الإكثار من دعاء عمر بن الخطاب -رضي الله عنه- هذا:

كان عمر -رضي الله عنه- يقول في دعائه :

"اللهم اجعل عملي كله صالحاً، واجعله لوجهك خالصاً، ولا تجعل لأحد فيه شيئاً".

'

وكان ابن تيمية يعجبه هذا، ويذكره كثيرا في مؤلفاته ورسائله، ويرشد إليه.

2023 was the year we realized just how true our beloved prophet's (saw) words are when he said:

"whoever among you wakes up physically healthy, feeling safe and secure within himself, with food for the day, it is as if he acquired the whole world." [sunan ibn majah]

2023 was the year we woke up to the reality of the deception of the world and felt this ayah to the depths of our hearts:

"and what is the worldly life except the enjoyment of delusion." [57:20]

2023 was the year we realized how desperately we yearn for a hereafter, not just for ourselves because we want to go to jannah and reunite with our loved ones there, but so that every single oppressor and terrorist on this earth can finally meet his humiliating end, so that every single innocent life taken, drop of blood spilled, and anguish caused can be replaced with eternal rest without fatigue, comfort without pain, justice without oppression, and joy without grief.

A child counselor shared some things that her young clients have said during their sessions. This is one of the saddest and most eye-opening things I've seen in a long time. 🥺 A reminder to be in the now.

Ibn Taymiyyah (رحمه الله تعالى) said,

"Whoever strives in the obedience of Allah and His Messenger (ﷺ) according to his ability is from Ahl Al Jannah (People of Jannah)."

our prophet Mohammed peace be upon him said: “when the people of paradise enter paradise, Allah– glorious and exalted is He, will say: ‘Do you want anything more?’ they will say: have you not brightened our faces? have you not admitted us to Paradise and saved us from Hell?’ then the veil will be removed and they will not be given anything more beloved to them than looking at their Lord, may He be glorified and exalted.”
