DEVELOPMENT
I made a pull out book of my Polaroids to show all of the images that were created throughout this process. All of the images are stand alone, creative process and I figured they deserve to be seen. This idea was inspired by a previous photographer, however their version was mounted and bound. Due to costs this wasn’t an option for me but also the amount of polaroids I have was much higher!
I got a concertina, pull out type sketchbook and mounted the images with photo corners. Whilst not the most professional look that I had wanted at first, I am actually considerably more comfortable with it this way - as it is exactly my photographic sketchbook. It’s not meant to be a final piece. The images range from everything between subject choice, colours, and manipulation techniques - even range with the polaroid formats from Impossible films to Fujifilm FP 100C.
The layout of the book is considered articulately - beginning and ending with a blank polaroid. The start opens with a white blank polaroid - to symbolise the beginning and the bright light that I’m about to explore with. The end is a black, dark polaroid - to symbolise the end of that journey. The images themselves are placed in an order to explain my process - between at first shooting blank images when learning the ropes, to abstract, muddy marks when getting to stage 2, to shooting the subject, considering lots of blues and pinks, clouds, skies and abstract pieces. The physical pull out style of the book also means the viewer can have an interactive and fully formed view of my process and journey.
