Why I'm still ny2caligirl

I've now lived in Northern CA for 14 years, but I'll always consider myself a New York girl at heart. Now, we're not talking NYC-girl. I'm from the country, even cow-tipped in my youth. The NY I grew up on was 7-mile-long blocks, cornfields, cattle, and lots of play spaces that we kids named after the most prominent landmarker (The Big Tree, Car Wash Hill, The Skating Pond). I did venture downstate to the Big Apple after college, but never picked up the accent, nor the attitude.

I hope to use this space to point out what a New Yorker notices in California, and what a Californian might miss about NY. I may stray off topic once in a while, but isn't that typical for a New Yorker? ;)
