BLACK CAT: A term to describe an intersex individual who presents themself in a gothic, punk, emo or otherwise alternative fashion. Anyone who is intersex and presents themself in a non-mainstream fashion can can describe themself or be described as a black cat, regardless of their specific intersex variation (pcos included).

HISTORY BEHIND THE TERM: Historically, intersex babies have been seen as a curse or a sign of bad luck. On the contrary, they have also been seen as descendants of the Greek god Hermaphroditus, and thusly, were seen as divine. Black cats have had a similar history. While often seen as a sign of bad luck, black cats can also be used as a symbol of magic.

FASHION: As stated previously, any intersex person who dresses alternately can use the term black cat to describe themself. These alternative fashion styles include, but are not limited to: Gothic, punk, grunge, emo, scene, and kinderwhore, along with all variations of the previously mentioned styles.

someone in the reblogs stated that the colors need to be higher contrast, which i agree with, and i gotta be honest with you guys, this is literally THE first flag i ever made (like in 2022), so here’s a more updated version

i mixed in some purple to have heavier emphasis on the breaking of the sex binary, along with making sure that each of the colors contrast each other heavily. also, since i never posted this, here’s the meaning of each stripe! (applies to both versions, this one’s just an alternative color scheme if the first one’s hard to read)

dark indigo - community

purple - friendship

light purple - magic

pale yellow - intersexuality

light burgundy - joy

burgundy - rebellion

dark burgundy - endurance

also, just feel the need to reiterate, this isn’t to say that the og version is offensive or outdated or anything, i’ve just gotten WAY better at designing stuff since it was made and wanted to show that off

also, if your preferred fashion style is listed under the Wikipedia list of alternative fashion styles and you’re intersex, you’re a black cat. whether you call yourself that or not is up to you, but regardless, you qualify. no ifs, ands or buts
