In keeping with all of the Taliesin character stuff, what are your thoughts on Caduceus? He certainly doesn't have the notable issues that Ashton and Bolaire have, but does fall victim to the one-liner machine and didn't really have much of an arc.

I like Caduceus! I said in my posts that I like both Percy and Caduceus a lot as characters.

I don't really feel like Caduceus had the same one liner problem, to be honest- it's not bad to be pithy. I like that, honestly; a good deal of why I enjoy Percy so much is that I outright enjoy an arrogant and pithy person who is frequently right about things in an annoying way, as I am not exactly free of those qualities myself. Caduceus had some memorable quotes but it didn't feel so...studied? artificial? Like, I think his line to Trent Ikithon, which I mentioned, makes perfect sense in context! It's a good line! It's just not going to land with Trent, at all. Bolaire feels like he's not really listening to other people, is the best way to put it. Caduceus's lines landed (as did Percy's) and felt grounded in the reality of the story. Ashton's increasingly didn't, and Bolaire's often don't.

As for an arc: I do not believe there is a PC who was in the majority of episodes in Campaign 1 or 2 who did not have a full and satisfying arc. I think there are characters like Caduceus whose arcs were subtle growth over the course of the campaign vs something more obvious like, eg, the Briarwoods, but I don't think anyone is shortchanged. Caduceus is telling the story of someone who didn't trust himself to take action or leave and who kept waiting for definitive signs to the point of poisoning himself and was too afraid to ask about his family until a bunch of grieving weirdos literally came to his door. His arc was about learning to trust himself and broaden his horizons and face difficult and uncomfortable things when they affected him directly, rather than deflecting and exclusively focusing on ministering to the grief of others to avoid his own problems. He ultimately ended up in the same place where he started! But he was a very different person in episode 141 than he was in episode 28, and his return to the Blooming Grove was because it was where he wanted to be and what he wanted to do, rather than his unchallenged comfort zone.

Never forget that when handed a manor, the first thing that Alleged Voice of Reason Caduceus Clay did was fill a tower with dirt and grow a SIXTY FOOT TREE on top of it. While everyone else was picking rooms Talesin was asking about digging out the yard. The only reason Caduceus ever seems sane is because interacting with the rest of the party is so much like being hit with a flashbang that the quiet, friendly guy looks normal while you're still rubbing your eyes. Caduceus is a madman and a legend and I love him.
