It’s genuinely interesting how differently we can all feel about powers and magic in media, morally. Some people love mind reading as a concept or mind control as a power - while I could barely get through campaign 3 since every time Imogen would read someone’s thoughts I felt like I was going to throw up. It felt like the grossest, cruelest most terrible thing you could do.
This campaign, I’m having some similar feelings with Bolaire. I love so many aspects of his character, and of course he’s meant to be creepy… But him taking over bodies without consent, stripping them naked, hurting them… oh I hate it.
It’s because of a similar ick of mine that I hope Thjazi isn’t always conscious inside Julien’s shadow. As a player I would be far too grossed out by “btw there’s been a middle aged man watching you naked this whole time” to keep playing. Same thing if he’s able to touch Julien or control him.
Now, I don’t really have a problem with any of these things if they are thoroughly shown to be abhorrent. But when someone that the narrative wants me to sympathize with reads minds/takes over bodies/etc…? Not for meee
Again: this is only how I read and react to these magical situations. There are many different ways to understand them and I’m not saying I’m right while others are wrong.
