i think love is revolutionary because when done right, it allows for accountability, for growth, for healing, for laughter, for joy, for connection, for touch, for coming home. maybe it is foolish of me, even a little stupid to think of it as such but when done right, when honoured, when fulfilled, when prepared and boiled and served well, it truly does magic, it truly changes lives, it nourishes, it feeds, it gives hope, hope, so much of it.

Varda par Agnès (Agnès Varda, 2019)
This tree is an example of a gemel, or two conjoined trees that fused together in a process called inosculation - essentially, self-grafting. This is pretty common in thin-barked trees like apple trees, blackthorn, beech, and olives, but pretty rare in thick-barked Douglas fir trees like this one. This tree has a lot of damage from boring beetles, possibly by Douglas fir beetles, Denroctonus pseudotsugae (I could be wrong, though). Being fused together might have weakened the tree, making it susceptible to beetle attack.

spring soup
recipe
add butter to your pot, toss in onions and garlic to simmer for around one minute... next add your celery, carrots, and bell pepper.
once those vegetables have finished browning, toss in the rest of your veggies: broccoli, zucchini, mushrooms, green beans, and any other vegetables you’d like.
let those simmer for a bit, and add your dry seasonings, I used: seasoned salt, garlic powder, onion powder, pepper; be sure to stir to avoid burning.
now to add in your wet ingredients: vegetable stock, canned diced or crushed tomatoes.
let all of this boil and simmer for a while, until the vegetable textures are to your liking... I prefer mine to retain a bit of the crunch so I don’t cook for too long.
since I do prefer crunchier veggies, I waited until close to the end of my cook time to add in my cabbage and fresh corn.
You really cannot mess up a vegetable soup like this, you can add in or take away any veggies that you please. I didn’t bother to include proportions or measurements because that is completely up to you!
