The say she felt nervous was an understatement, her fingers tapped against her thighs as her gaze wandered around the room filled with camera’s, some hidden and some controlled by hired staff members. She’d been in such situations before, however 99% of those had been with her members by her side to reassure her that even if she didn’t do well, they’d be there to correct her mistakes or lead away from her shyness or even awkwardness. Yet this time she was alone, all camera’s focused on her, and her alone. Each movement made and word said would be captured and could possibly be added into the eventual footage, which was a scary thought.
She’d done some interviews and had made her occasional appearance her and there but she’d never actually been part of the main cast, she’d never actually done a reality show where there wasn’t a script to follow (This to a certain extend of course). Not to forget, she was to “date” someone she hadn’t even met before, she didn’t know who she’d be spending these three days in a lodge with. One of her bigger fears being they didn’t get along, the male actually hating her or perhaps not understanding her and making her look even more awkward than she was. Surely, Mellow was gradually doing better, but she was nowhere near being highly recognizable, the possibility was that the other didn’t even know who she was either.
A knock echoed, breaking her out of her train of thoughts. This moment she’d been dreading but also been looking forward to, camera’s were fixed on the door as well as her own gaze. Wondering who would be stepping into the room to spend the weekend with her. Her fingers nervously tugged at the hem of her shirt. As much as she was supposed to be a professional, this was her very first variety / reality show appearance and she couldn’t keep her head cool, just being all too frightened, perhaps she’d relax soon enough.
Xiao’s throat felt like it was on the verge of closing, and it wasn’t because he had eaten something he was allergic to. No, it was because his manager had told him that on behalf of 2K he would be on a show he had seen once or twice, a show that involved him “dating” a complete stranger only to “marry” them at the end of it all. This was not how he planned to spend such a lovey-dovey weekend, but alas he was an idol now. He NEEDED fans. Xiao was well aware he couldn’t hide behind the velvet drape his entire career and he had to venture out in the spotlight at some point.
However, he wasn’t expecting his debut to happen like this. Especially being the humble bug that he is.
What if they didn’t like him? What if he said something so embarrassing that his entire career would be that very moment he screws up relived time and time again? What if he got paired with... Jaemoon?!?! Granted, he didn’t know any details aside from the fact he would be spending the weekend in a nice upscale apartment with another person and cameras watching his every movement down to even the slightest twitch of his eyebrow. Xiao shuddered at the thought of having to spend an entire weekend being bullied by his hyung, but then the thought graced his mind... what if he got paired with a really cute female idol? Someone like Lisa of BlackPink... or Xuan Yi from WJSN... the smile that spread across his face was disgusting and if not for him realizing he was already being filmed in the van and the PD interrupting his thoughts asking him why he looked like that he probably would have continued.
“Ahh-- nothing, nothing-- don’t film this...” obviously flustered, Xiao looked out the window as the van pulled up to the building and he was permitted to step out after the cameras. Gathering his bags, he followed the PD inside and occasionally spoke to the cameras on the way. It was until they arrived at his door that the true feeling of nervousness washed over him, but nevertheless, he knocked and stepped inside the apartment.
It was his time to grow up, puff his chest out, and be a man.
