2014 RCF Welcome Week Schedule!

Good Sunday RCF! Hope service was amazing. For those making your way to New York the next couple days have a safe trip. 

At last the Welcome Week schedule is set and we are ready to go for this upcoming week! Thank you all for your patience!  

Here is each event:

August 25th- Outreach 

Time: 6:30 PM-8 PM 

Location: North Entrance to Washington Sq Park (Arch)  

August 26th and 27th- Outreach 

Time: 12 PM-2PM 

          6:30 PM-8 PM

Location: Washington Sq Park (Arch) 

August 28th- Outreach

Time: 3:30 PM-5 PM

Location: Washington Sq Park (Arch)

August 28th- Inter-Fellowship Praise Night 

Time: 5 PM-7:30 PM 

Location: Kimmel Room 905 

August 29th- Outreach

Time: 4:30 PM-6PM 

Location: Washington Sq Park (Arch)

August 29th- RCF Brooklyn Bridge/Grimaldi's

Time: 6:30 PM (leaving) 

Location: Kimmel and Whole Foods (Union Sq) 

August 31st- RWChurch Walking Groups

Time: 10 AM (leaving) 

Location: Founders and Kimmel 

*Also 8/31 there will be College Lunch groups after service so stick around

September 1st- Labor Day BBQ

Time: 11:30 AM (leaving) to whenever 

Walking Group: Weinstein and Third North 

Location: East River Park 

September 7th- RWChurch Walking Groups Time: 10 AM (leaving) Location Founders and Kimmel 

Clarifications/Details 

1) The times listed with "(leaving)" means that is the time the walking groups will leave from the location. 

2) Please arrive early to each event so we can start on time!

3) For outreach we will meet at the Arch and move from there (call/message if you are running late)  4) If you can make it for only part of some events please STILL come! Come and leave as you need to. 

We need you all to sign up to be part of walking groups for the different events and the outreach so we know who to expect.

Welcome Week 2014

brothers and sisters of NYU Remnant Christian Fellowship!!!

We are so excited to see you all in a couple weeks! Hope all of your summers have been filled with blessings and goodness. The Lord loves you!

Times and locations will be provided in a future email, but for now here is the schedule:

All throughout welcome week we will be having outreach on campus and at the park to promote our other events and to reach people for the Lord! More details to come on this later!

Chris Choi: Lord Lord

<Matthew 7:21-27> “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’ “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.26 And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”

--> It is so easy to call Jesus our Lord. We say it so often that it becomes routine, a statement of obvious fact. But did my life reflect that? What did it mean when I declared Jesus my Lord? A lord rules over his subjects completely and absolutely. A subject does not pick and choose when to listen to his lord. He does not have the power to grant authority only in certain aspects of his life. If he does so, he puts himself above his lord.

We are called to submit to God. Jesus tells us that we can do so many great things in his name: we can declare the name of Jesus from the mountaintops, shout it from every rooftop, but if He is not truly the Lord of our lives, if we do not give up everything we have to Him, He will not know us. A lord will not know the servant who does works in his name, but never comes to meet with him. He will not know a servant who sings his praises, but does not bow down in complete submission to him.

What do we keep from Jesus? Where do we struggle to live out our lives for him? Is it a sin we just can’t seem to break out of? Is it an idol that we make excuses for? Is it a comfort zone we cannot leave? God’s strength covers all of these things. The goodness of God tells us that when we seek him, we will find him. God in his perfect grace makes himself available to us, yet it is so easy to fall away from him and run back to the things of the world.

And so this maturing and growing in God, it’s all well and good, but if in the process Jesus is not Lord over our lives we do these things in vain. If we are not in tune to the will of God in our lives, we are prophesying, casting out demons, and doing mighty works not for God, but for ourselves. Not doing the will of the Father, but carrying out the will of our own sinful hearts. We can build houses just as beautiful as those of wise men, but when push comes to shove what have you built your house, your works, upon? Is it the solid rock of God or the shifting weakness of your own sand?

And so image is not of concern here. When you make the decision to do “Christian” things, where is your heart? Jesus is a Lord who not only deserves complete authority over our lives, but he is a Lord who has earned it in love and faithfulness. When we know God, he will know us, and when we know God, we will love him and it will be the simplest of decisions to dedicate our lives to following the perfect example of Jesus.

This is not a condemnation of ourselves. Yes we recognize that we have sinful hearts. Yes we may stumble and fall and even turn away on this walk. But God is a GOOD God. Do you believe it?

So have no reservations. The reward that Jesus has in store for us when he returns is worth the cost of our lives, just as our lives were worth the cost of His. Pray for more of him, to fall deeper and deeper in love, to be increased in your faith. These things will lead to amazing transformation and unnatural maturity in Christ.

These past couple of weeks have been some of the most discouraging times ever. Yet, God constantly calls me to hope in him. I almost regret doing...

<Acts 2:42- 47>

42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. 43 And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. 44 And all who believed were together and had all things in common. 45 And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. 46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.

What does fellowship look like? From Acts 2:42-47, this is what we can infer from what Luke rights about fellowship.

-we will devote ourselves to learning scripture, breaking bread (eating) and praying together

-if we do this as a community, we will all be in awe of God and God will use us to do His work

-we will all recognize that we have something in common despite our differences: Christ

-we will care for our community and help those in need together

-we will attend and encourage each other to attend church together, but we will also fellowship during our time away from church or large group meetings and invite each other into our own homes 

-we make and give food to one another because our hearts are generous toward one another

-we will praise the Lord for each and every brother and sister

-God will be reward this faithfulness and bring unbelievers who will come to Christ in our midst so that we can bless them, and they can bless us 

This is what fellowship looks like. 

Lord Jesus, I pray that you would grow each and every brother and sister in RCF. I pray that we would truly live out the kind of fellowship that you call us to. May our hearts be opened Lord, may our hearts be in awe of You. I pray that we would both encourage and rebuke each other, all in love. I pray that others would know that we are your disciples because of the love that we have for each other! Jesus, work in this fellowship. Change our hearts. Transform this generation of believers to be more like you. Grant us grace Lord, to do all these things that I have written about above. We need Your grace, Lord. We are nothing without You. We love You, God. We want to serve You. Help us love like You do. 

In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
