fly to the next stage with Love in 2016
Let move together to the next stage with warmth and friendship in 2016 O-Jewel will focus vividly on the curation to creat the truly beauty to the world
Too beautiful ...
The girl wearing “Shidaty” in the photograph is a picture of her daughter. Shidaty is a traditional weave, it is a piece of fabric which you can use in any way you wish.
When I think of Yonaguni island one image always comes to mind, an island the color of Lapis. A very beautiful blue with purity.
I met a woman called Mari who weaves textiles in Yonaguni. Surrounded by the natural beauty of Yonaguni Island, she weaves her beautiful textiles. Even though she has lived there for many years, she is still surprised by the lovely colors and the beauty of nature every day.
She is too beautiful, with her own way of thinking, a warm heart and good sense.
The girl wearing “Shidaty” in the photograph is a picture of her daughter. Shidaty is a traditional weave, it is a piece of fabric which you can use in any way you wish. In the past it was difficult to reach Yonaguni island because of the high waves and winds, so other islands called it “ Dunan island”… Dunan means “difficult to reach”. According to these kinds of stories, Shidaty people were weaving wishes that loved ones would comes back safely.
The Shidaty designs have various meanings: A plaid of five - Eternity Seven lines - Everything is safe. Nine at both ends - Someone’s hope will come true

04. October 2015

HOLLAND JAPONISM in “The FIRANDO”
Hirado called “FIRANDO” at that time. The reconstruction of the 1639 warehouse of “the Dutch Trading Post” in Hirado is a very important project within the Japanese - Dutch cultural ties that have bound the countries for over 400 years. This multi-billion yen initiative is not only very large in scope but also has deep historical meaning. Originally built in 1639, it is regarded as the first full-fledged western building in Japan.
”FIRAND Castle” Arnoldus Montanus (1625–1683) The New and Unknown World Matsura Shigenobu (1549-1614),26th domain head in Hirado built big castle called “Hinotake-castle”(1559). This castle described book, “The New and Unknown World” written by Arnoldus Montanus. It showed that Hirado was big city in the west part pf Japan at that time. The local rulers of Matsura clan had a good relationship with Dutch, and they did the trade. Through the Dutch, a lot of Europe and south east Asia culture came in Hirado.
Paintings of forigners A colored picture scroll of 43 foreigners including the Dutch. At that time lot of foreigners were living in Hirado freely.

The next stage of HOLLAND JAPONISM is “the FIRANDO” The days of Hirado, Capital of the West. The history of Hirado is one of overseas trade. As Hirado is located on the west tip of Japan, its connections with China and the Korean peninsula date back over 1000 years. For centuries their community has been open to foreign exchange of which you can still find the remnants throughout the islands. The Christian faith was brought to Hirado in 1550 by Francisco Xavier and gathered many followers. One of Hirado islands, called “Ikitsuki” is first place to sing a carol and European Music.
The Dutch Trading Post was set up in 1609 in Hirado as a trading center for East Asia. Before Japan’s isolation policy was implemented, the Dutch Trading Post in Hirado was allowed to trade relatively freely, and many exchanges took place both in trading activities as well as in daily life. That’s the reason, Hirado is first city that was brought lots of new things and culture to Japan.
According to theses historical contexts, there are lots of first stories which happened in Japan has been existed in Hirado. I am going to tell those stories on this blog.
HOLLAND JAPONISM Dutch artists x Mino Washi send message of Beauty to the world
This is a beauty’s message Japanese paper send beyond time and space. It was V.O.C. that introduced this beautiful paper to Europe in 17th Century. And eventually that caused a movement called Japonism in 19th Century. Now artists who fell in love with Gampi or the paper made only in Japan are to connect the past and the future by working it into modern arts.

I had a Lecture with Mine-san @ Hikomizuno-school. I could see how she teaches for students. All young students looked at us very serious attitude. I hope I could pass my emotion and they could feel something from our lecture. Then they would have big dreams for their future. Mine-san and I have known for 10 years!
