btw, just wanna say that this is my own opinion, feel free to share what you think !!
hugos philosophy is that what your born with sets your role. you cant just become anything you want, but you find something that you're good at and excel in them for the best results.
the video says "hugo sees having dreams as creating pointless conflict and despair if it doesnt seem to line up with their predetermined genetic destiny" now yes this does seem bad at first glance, but if you think about it i think its just hugos way of being logical.
hugo thinks that accepting your limits and perfecting them is the way to improve rather than thinking of doing the impossible. he thinks this way because he values logic, realism, and efficiency.
the video also mentions that hugos example of "a lion trying to fly is stupid" is a bad example and implies that humans aren't the same because were more creative, and we can adapt which i do agree with!
however, this guy also uses an airplane as an example, which i think actually defends hugos philosophy more. we humans also cannot fly, so instead of trying to fly or doing something that we NATURALLY cannot do, we find things that we are naturally good at, such as creating tools, for example, airplanes. but still, without the airplane we cannot fly because the airplane is what files for us.
hugos dream is to win the world cup 4 times, but not as a striker because he thinks he isnt suited for that role. hugo thinks he is more suited to control the field rather than producing a goal himself (we can see that because of how well he reads the game) so he uses it to his advantage to then help loki (who he thinks is a natural born number one because he has the best physical abilities) to produce goals, which then goes back again to his original goal of winning the world cup. i think this fits well with the airplane example.
also, hugo isnt actually talking about being in second place where he is inferior or the loser, but to be in second place because he produced the best player. he sets the stage so the "number one" can succeed exactly how the "number two" intends. he understands the number one better than anyone else, making him an equal. he views it as a "two sides of the same coin" rather than hierarchy.

"but isagi would've never reached where he is now without egos philosophy" thats true, but hugo never said that isagi was never meant to become a great footballer, he says isagi is more suited to become the number 2 like him, because isagi is more suited to be in that role.
hugo actually does acknowledges ego and his philosophy, but he states that this is where egos philosophy will end. hugo believes that this was even possible because blue lock has been barely winning by isagi yoichi pulling in luck. so in the france game, hugo makes sure that no luck would be possible, therefore crushing blue lock by the end if they dont change their strategy. you can see blue lock finally starting to win when even karasu accepts hugos philosophy and becomes the number 2, entirely contradicting what ego taught which led him to get in trouble with ego later on LOL.
yes isagi can be a striker, but it would mean for extra steps and to hugo, thats just inefficient. just because its possible, doesn't mean its more suitable.
something else i noticed was that ego kinda follows in hugos philosophy by creating blue lock. ego couldnt become the number one, so he created blue lock, just like the airplane example.
of course there are flaws to hugos philosophy, like not knowing ones true potential, but i dont think its as bad as what the videos describes it to be (like being worse than h*tler HELP).
