Announcement, Content Warning, & Statement of Intent
After a while floating around in various points of Ghost/Niro's life across multiple timelines, I've finally landed on one particular story that I want to tell. That's my project in the works: piecing together a narrative that traces decades of his life after he came crawling back to Orin following the betrayal. I am not one of those people that can create a narrative work of writing, art, or any combination thereof by starting at the beginning and continuing until I reach the end. The bare-bones summary is here; we'll start on the same page about the basic facts, and then I'll be filling in the details piece by piece, in no particular order, in art and writing.
This is a horror story. This (eventually pinned) post is a warning for forthcoming explicit portrayals and discussions of incest, grooming, and other deeply unhealthy family dynamics, in addition to the expected Dark-Urge-typical violence and sex. Everything to which this content warning applies will be tagged with "niro family cult". A lot of this will not be surprising given the art and writing I've created so far; nevertheless, as things will only get worse from here, it felt worth putting up a warning. If you don't want to see worse, now's a good time to bail out.
I am working with this subject matter on purpose. I am doing so because I am telling a horror story, because I reject the common heuristic that the beautiful is the good, and because I'm interested in art that compels the viewer to experience disgust, fear, or moral outrage alongside arousal, awe, or delight.
Historically, certain circumstances—namely social isolation, belief in bloodline purity, and desire to keep power within a family—have tended to incentivize consanguinous relationships. These relationships are also robustly represented among global mythology. This is the context from which Niro's story draws.
