Leia moved to come over to him. She stood before him. So this was where he had been living. Luke had taken her to his hut on Tatooine after the war, but somehow, she didn’t expect him to have lived in such a natural surroundings in the middle of the desert.

“Leia Organa.” She answered. “I see you’re not a Force ghost this time and I’m real. My best guess is that I somehow ended up back in time. Perhaps this is part of my training now. But can you tell me, do I look more like her, my real mother? I know that Luke looks like our real father. You don’t have to hide anything. I know you think that the less you say the less you give away, but really, it’s the opposite.” Leia paused. “Let me guess too, my brother is here somewhere, isn’t he? I never saw him as a youngling.”

Obi-Wan looked startled as she introduced herself and then asked about Padme and Luke and spoke of Anakin and...he couldn’t help but to just let out a soft laugh.

“You really, truly are forthright, just like Anakin, and immediately down to business too,” He says as he sighs a bit, “You said I’m a force ghost? You don’t look like you’re past your mid-twenties...so I wonder what happened...” He says before he shakes his head

 “I may be curious, but don’t tell me... and yes, your brother is here on Tatooine, but I have to keep my distance. I don’t want another sith to find him and cause problems with Beru and Owen..”

The princess paused when she saw a form familiar to her, even though she hadn’t seen him in years. Leia wasn’t sure if it was the heat of the desert playing a trick on her or not, but something told her that he was real. She put her blaster away in her holster, Tala’s holster that she still had from all those years ago. Also attached to a clip on the holster was her lightsaber that she had built during her training under Luke.

“Ben.” She called out to him once her blaster was away. After many years, she was finally saying the name to the original man she had met with it. Though her young son was taking to the Jedi’s name well. “Ben… Obi-Wan Kenobi, is that you?” He was there, not a Force ghost, and in the form from her memories as a child.

Obi-Wan had been minding his own business and getting some water out from his vaporators along the edge of his property and by the the shadows of the rocky hills when he heard his name, and he looked up and over and squinted towards the figure of the woman.

“Who’s asking?” He asks, looking confused by what he was seeing, but also a little curious.

“I didn’t know you took interest in interior design.” He replied. “Though I have been thinking of putting in a rug to make it a bit more cheery. What do you think?”

He seemed to grin under the hood of his cloak at Obi-Wan’s stubborn. “Good. You know me. I do like a challenge.”

He moved then, walking over to the torture droid. At first, he seemed to be petting the top of their head, a gesture of affection he had done to Artoo. But a moment later, Obi-Wan would realize that he was pressing some buttons, causing the droid to shut down. He then grabbed the shock prod from the droid’s now inactive hands and look up at his Master.

“Now then, if you’re done with this game, I think you and I need to get down to business. Including getting you a haircut. You’re starting to look like Master Jinn.” He said.

“I only take interest in interior design when I’m bored, Anakin,” Obi-Wan says as he seems to think about the joke about the rug and he shakes his head, “It may make it cheery, but it would be awfully hard to clean blood out of it, I’m sure.” He says as he shifts as best he could, watching Anakin walk away.

He watched how he was petting the droid, only to feel a twisting dread in his stomach when he saw the droid shut down and Anakin grab the shock prod.

“I am not done with this game. I’d prefer not to be if it means you won’t touch my hair...” He says as he eyes anakin, “Seriously. you don’t get to touch my hair....besides, I’m growing it out as one of the few ways I have to honor my former Master, surely you wouldn’t try and cut my hair to deprive me of my way to grieve, would you?” Obi-Wan asked, raising a brow at him.

He put the tea leaves in the kettle to brew before pausing. It was amazing the difference in the Force signatures between Vader and Obi-Wan. While he had been able to calm Vader some, the Sith Lord was still a dark storm in the Force. But Obi-Wan, as always was warm and had a calming and comforting effect. 

For a moment, Artoo didn’t move before bending his head down. Obi-Wan soon enough could hear the sound of tears. The former droid was crying.

“I kriffing hate this!” He spoke. With his back to Obi-Wan, he began to undo some straps on the coat he was wearing, a part of imperial uniform. Soon enough, it was unfastened and he shoved it off, tossing it to the side with his backpack. Obi-Wan could now see the long sleeved shirt that Artoo had been wearing all this, a white and blue one, the same colors of his Jedi robes. “Healing Vader and being by his side is bantha shit. I can’t save him. I can’t undo what he’s done. No one can! And you know what I see when I look at him? A frightened boy who clings to the past. A boy who went too far and didn’t know when to stop or how to go back.”

Artoo moved to wipe his eyes on his sleeve before turning around to face Obi-Wan. 

“I hate the Empire. It’s not just Anakin they’ve twisted or economies being ruined. They’re destroying sacred Jedi planets to try and dig up Kyber crystals. Lives are being hurt or taken. Older droids are melted as scrap metal. And I just want to escape.” He was pouring out private words now. “I don’t now what I can do.”

Obi-Wan, when he saw Artoo start to break down and cry immediately stood up, and he went over to the former droid, and he went and gently pulled him into a hug as the other spoke of hating the Empire and what it had done.

“Artoo,” He says softly as he holds the other close to him, just wanting him to feel listened to and heard. To feel warmth instead of whatever Vader supposedly gave him.

“I know, Artoo, I know....but I can’t do anything. The Order is scattered and gone. There’s nothing I can do to help anymore. Not with things like that. The Republic is gone, the Jedi are gone, in hiding or...twisted to the Emperor’s wish. All you can do is try to subvert things where you can, when you can and safely. Not to mention, any change in Vader that isnt him killing or corrupting things like he normally would is a good thing. You’re around him so much...I think you can continue to lower his guard. He’s not in physical pain anymore but he still feels the emotional loss that’s driven him. I’m sure he still misses Padme and the children he’s never gotten to know, that as far as he knows, are dead.”

There’s a sigh for a moment from him as he considered what he should say next but...kark it.

“You can always stay here with me, if you want to get away from him and escape. I know a few people that can help you disappear again if you really want that.” He says softly

“Which makes it the perfect place for a Jedi to hide, especially considering that a certain the Sith Lord who wants to find you hates thos planet with as much intensity as the heat of the twin suns here. However, I suppose that Tatooine has a special place in my heart. It was the second planet I ever saw since I was created and I met Threepio here.” Artoo said. Overall, despite how he could be a bit jaded at times, he did have develop an optimistic outlook since he had become human.

“I’m sorry about that. Although, the thing is say someone did actually bring you in. I wonder where all those credits are going to come from for the bounty. Not sure if Vader even knows. I don’t think finances or budgetting are his forte. But he is pretty damn wealthy. Even I have been given pretty good finances. I for sure have more than I need. I donate a good chunk of it and the rest I spend on making my chambers on Vader’s ship cozy and adventuring for food.” He shrugged. Although, a part of him did wonder if the Emperor wanted Obi-Wan too. He had seen some disagreements between Sidious and Vader. Maybe Sidious wondered how Obi-Wan had been able to handle Anakin?

“Look, Master, I… I was able to heal Ahsoka. I don’t know if I have this ability because I was once a droid or not. But as far as I know no other Force User has or had this ability. It’s also not something I advertise to many people. As for Vader, I have his side of the story of what happened. I would like to get your’s. However, yes, I did heal his limbs too. It made him a lot less of miserable asshole, to be honest. Yet, I think it’s safe to assume that I may also have the ability to revert his limbs back to cybernetics should I choose.” 

Artoo swallowed. “Yeah, well, I decided I didn’t want to be a miserable asshole. Sith Lords seems to have the reputation.” He looked over at the kettle. Perhaps it would be another minute or two before it would whistle. 

“My role?” He turned his attention back to Obi-Wan. “My technical titles are the Apprentice to Lord Vader, the Hand of Lord Vader, and High Commander in the Imperial Navy. Basically a bunch of fancy words. I suppose more in reality, Vader keeps me around because I know all of Ani’s little secrets and most of his help in the Empire is useless. I’m the only good help he has. But I guess it’d be more appropriate to say that I’m his companion who he teaches lightsaber forms to and trains in the Force.”

He sighed and looked down for a moment. “I know you’ll say I was pathetic or weak. When Vader caught me, he gave me a choice between joining him and having good food, he even cooks for me sometimes, or rotting in a cell forever. I chose the option with food and some freedom.” Artoo admitted. “The truth is that I miss you, Master. I miss the Republic. I miss how things used to be, but I know I can’t go back. I-!” He cut off when he heard the kettle whistle. “Tea!”

His head snapped back up and he grabbed the tea leaf jar and went over to the kettle to put some leaves into brew for the tea.

“The credits will come from the Empire’s treasury which is likely quite full because of the taxes the Emperor must be placing on all the people. Trust me. When they want a person and that person gets caught....they’ll either kill the bounty hunter or pay them, depending on who it is. High profile Bounty Hunters like Boba Fett, they won’t kill him. Not so high profile....well, what’s another body to them?”

Obi-Wan paused and smiled at Artoo and what he said he did with his pay, “I’m glad you donate it,” He says softly, “There’s quite a few people out there that need those credits to survive. The Empire has not been kind on people these last few years, and they’ve been destroying the economy on some planets, I’ve heard.” Obi-Wan says sounding sad.

Though when he heard what Artoo said about his role and how he must look weak to him, to Obi-Wan, the man in question frowned. He didn’t see Artoo as weak. He saw him as in a prime position to try and do good, to try and sway Anakin into doing things that aren’t quite so destructive.

“I don’t see you as pathetic. I see you as someone making the best of his situation. I see you as potentially curbing some of Vader’s wrath. I also see you as someone who just wants to enjoy what he can when he can. Also...you can always visit me whenever you like, so long as Vader is not with you.” He says as he smiles at Artoo, watching as Artoo went and started to make the tea, shaking his head fondly.

“The last time I was here, I was still a droid. I never realized how hot this desert could be until I came here now.” Artoo admitted. Back when he had been droid, he’d been concerned about keeping sand out of his parts. Now that he was human, he seemed to be keep sand out of anything and there was also the heat to contend with. “Ahsoka doesn’t know you’re alive. Vader believes you are, hence the whole you being his number one enemy and bounty. If it weren’t so horrible, I guess I’d say congratulations because I have never seen a bounty reward as high as your’s.”

He watched Obi-Wan put on the kettle and sit down. 

“I ran into Ahsoka some time ago by chance when I was looking for healing artifact. I helped to heal her hand. She had lost it in a duel and apparently, I have a particular Force healing ability to heal cybernetics and turn them back into the limbs that were lost. We caught up some and I promised her that if I ever found you, I would make sure that you were alright and safe.” Artoo clarified. “I’m also glad to know that you are alive and doing well, as well as a Jedi can be in this day and age. Honestly, after I got some burgers, I decided to explore and heard about a hermit living out this way. I was curious and saw you.”

The former droid looked over at his pack at the mention of all the pockets on it.

“I just like having plenty of storage. Since I’ve been human, I can’t hide items like I used to when I was a droid.” He answered. Maybe he didn’t need all of the pockets, but he felt better having them. 

He moved to open up a pocket and pulled out a jar with green and purple tea leaves. He then opened up another pocket and pulled out a silver box with treats inside. Both of these items he put down in front of Obi-Wan.

“I guess you probably want to know what I’ve been doing all this time and why I’m working for Vader.” He said. He knew that his unique black and blue imperial uniform was enough to speak Empire to Obi-Wan. Although, at times did miss his white and blue robes. “Just to start with, I don’t really use the dark side. I still use the light side of the Force and I’ve never bled my Kyber crystal. So I’m no Sith Lord, but I can’t say I’m a Jedi either. Just to clear the air about that.”

“Now you understand why most people  tend to avoid this planet, and how most people who live here tend to look older than they really are. The suns are rather harsh and unforgiving, it’s why so many people wear heavy robes, to deflect the sun and to also redirect the wind and heat.”

“Ah. The bounty,” Obi-Wan just sighs and leans back, “If they wanted to make it hard for me to get food or water, they succeeded, however I know how to get water just fine after observing the tuskans and how they get water,” He says before he leans back and smiles at Artoo’s response to the bag. He supposed it would be jarring, to go from being able to hide a bunch of things to not being able to hide much at all.

He then blinked a bit when Artoo mentioned Ahsoka, “So Ahsoka lost a hand and you were able to bring it back to her? To make her hand flesh again AND you managed it with Vader too, I assume?” Which meant Vader could likely destroy him in a battle now if he found him. Vader had been actively running around and doing things and keeping his skills up. Him? Not so much.

“Well, Artoo. I am glad you don’t use the dark side, and that you haven’t bled your crystal.” Obi-Wan says as he reached over and took one of the treats and looked it over curiously, “You can put those tea leaves in the kettle when it starts to whistle if you’d like, so we can enjoy the treats with them,” Obi-Wan says as he once more takes in Artoo’s appearance. The droid turned human seemed genuine and more or less content. He just wished he could get Artoo away from Vader, though it seemed like Artoo had made up his mind, so he didn’t see the point in trying to change Artoo’s mind.

“So tell me, what do you do under Vader’s command? What is your role in the grand scheme of the Empire?” Obi-Wan asked, tilting his head a bit

He didn’t answer right away, just crying. He needed a good cry. However, Obi-Wan’s did offer him some comfort and after some moments, he managed to stop his tears for a bit. His hand that was still flesh and blood released Obi-Wan and he wiped his wet eyes and nose on the sleeve of his robes before finally looking at his Master.

Anakin swallowed. His cybernetic hand was still clinging on to his Master’s robes. Perhaps a part of him was afraid of losing Obi-Wan, the only family he had left.

“My mother died.” He confessed, his voice a bit hoarse and dry. “When Padme and I were on Tatooine, we found her. She had been sold and freed. She had been living with a good family on a moisture farm. But she was kidnapped and beatened and she…” He swallowed, trying hard not let more tears out. “She died in my arms when I went to save her. I was angry at her captors. I wanted to kill them all. I couldn’t though. I heard… I heard Master Jinn’s voice. And I know my Mom wouldn’t have wanted revenge so I just got out of there and I buried her on the farm where she was free. She was free, Master! That’s a lot.”

It was clear that after all the recent events that the last few days had been the only time where he really had time to process everything, leading to this cry.

“And on Geonosis, Padme and I…we kissed. It felt good, but I also know that she kissed me and said she loved me because she thought we were about to die. I mean I like her. She’s good and kind. But I…” At the time, it seemed his childhood crush on her had flared up on him again, but it was fading back down again. “Now she wanst to marry me! I also  miss my hand. I should’ve listened to you. I was stupid. And I don’t want to lose you, Master. I’ve already lost too much! I just don’t know what to do. I…I feel horrible!”

He stood there, stunned for a while. Anakin’s mother had died? Shmi had.... oh dear.. Then Padme and Anakin making moves on each other that he was regretting? Talk about bad timing for both of them. Between grief, a crash and war? Yeah, he could see how it was all overwhelming his apprentice now.

“First and foremost, Anakin...you did the right thing by opening up to me about this, I appreciate it,” He says as he offers Anakin a warm smile.

“Second...I am so very sorry for your mother’s loss. However....think of it this way. You were the last thing she saw. You, her light, her son, the reason she worked so hard to keep you two in a safe home. You were there for her at the end and she must have been very proud of you, Anakin, just like I am proud of you for resisting the temptation to get revenge.Revenge wouldn’t bring her back to you.” He says softly.

“As for what is going on with Padme...What do you want to do? Do you truly care for her, or is this a crush now dying after you’ve had your time with her and had a life and death experience with her? No matter what you say, this is far too fast for marriage, Anakin, and I think part of you knows that.”

“Thank you.” He moved inside the home when Obi-Wan allowed him within. He glanced around the hut. He had to admit that it was much cozier than Vader’s ship. That was something Artoo had worked on, making his quarters in the ship comfortable and cozy instead of sterile, clean, and white. He had even had warm light installed instead of bright, white ones.

“Do you have a kettle? If not, I have one in my pack.” He took his pack off, a blue thing with plenty of pockets. While he was no longer a droid, he did seem to favor items with plenty of compartments and pockets to hide stuff in. 

“I could tell you I heard about a place in Mos Eisley that supposedly makes the best bantha burgers in the galaxy. and decided to try it. But that would only be part of the truth.” Artoo admitted. “I’m here to check on you for Ahsoka. An added bonus is me ruining some Inquisitor’s day. I really do not like them. Annoying buggers. Don’t worry, Master. I’m not taking you to Ani or to the Empire nor I am going to reveal your location. You see, my contractual oath to Vader is that I can’t work for the Rebellion. Which gives me a lot of wiggle room to work with. I serve the Empire, but it doesn’t mean I can’t say aide some hermit on a desert planet. Besides which, Vader is the one that has beef with you, not me. If he wants you so bad, he can find you himself.”

“Of course I have my own kettle, Artoo. I may be on Tatooine but I still enjoy my tea hot,” He says with a soft huff as he goes over to the kitchen and fills the kettle and puts it on the stove before he went to his table and sat down, stretching a bit, “So. A burger place called your name and Ahsoka sent you to find me? Was I really that easy to fine?” Obi-Wan asked, looking concerned.

“If I was then I need to work on that soon, I’d hate for my former student to actually find me. Also...how does Ahsoka even know I’m alive? I could have sworn I hid my presence in the force, even from her...” He says as he leans against the table.

Artoo’s line of new work honestly didn’t surprise him, but he was glad for the former astromech’s integrity.

“Also, I have to say, I find the many pockets on your pack quite amusing. Do you really need all of them?”

There was no explanation, no words yet as Anakin seemed to stumble down the hallway. But he had a moment to move with purpose when he spotted his Master. The padawan reached for Obi-Wan, his hands balling into part of the cloth of Obi-Wan’s robes over the Jedi Knight’s chest. It was then that the nineteen year old, who had grown taller than his Master, hung his head low and began to sob, tears streaming down his cheeks. He hadn’t cried like this since he had been youngling and had begun his Jedi training.

Anakin looked worse for wear. The nineteen year old hadn’t been seen, much less been out of his quarters for a few days. Not since Geonosis and after he had his surgery to get a cybernetic hand. Having a few days to heal from his surgery was valid, but it seemed that Anakin had other things plaguing his mind. So plagued that his appearance had become a bit dishelved. Even his always tidy padawan braid hadn’t been braided again in days, making little pieces of hair stick out here and there.

Obi-Wan blinked in surprise when the nineteen year old came over to him and just...broke down. He followed his instinct, which was to wrap his arms around Anakin and rub his back, trying to go for comforting movements as he looked to the teen’s shoulder. since he was about as tall as said shoulder.

“Anakin? What’s wrong?” Obi-Wan asked, confused and worried all in one as he noted how Anakin was holding onto him. Was he afraid of losing him or...? Just what had happened to upset his padawan? Surely losing his arm wasn’t this upsetting? Perhaps it had something to do with Padme?
