his birthday had never been the most delightful thing in the world, especially with recent happenings that occurred a year ago ( he had only come for halloween but his friends had insisted he stay for his birthday too, so he did. what a mistake that was ) , so it wasn’t a surprise he regarded it with a grimace as he took a sip of his drink. the house had gone quiet and nothing but the cooing of birds was heard ( thank god -- the only peace he could get in this house was when everyone was away or asleep ) .

his birthday...it was something that had happened right in the middle of what grian liked to call ‘the jerry incident’. halloween and the two weeks after weren’t exactly fond memories he’d like to remember, after all.

perhaps he’d treat himself. go out into the city later today before sam and taurtis had a chance to wake up and eat at a restaurant, be out the entire day, head into a nightclub, forget what it truly means to be mortal and forget how fragile his own life is.

maybe, maybe.

grian stared at the almost empty bottle in his hand ( christ, how long had he been sitting here, just...looking? ) , licking his lips in order to instill some kind of moisture in them, and then downed what was left in the bottle, almost wincing at the bitterness of the alcohol. he wiped the excess off with the back of his hand and set the bottle aside, leaning back in his seat. who knew, maybe it’d be an okay day this year.

( oh, who was he kidding? his birthdays were always awful. )

Life is Strange AU where Grian takes the place of Max and Sam with Chloe. The former is an art student and finds himself having time powers one morning and doesn’t really use them until he finds an old friend ( that he didn’t really want to find again ) in the bathroom of his school being assaulted by another. Feeling guilty about Sam’s death ( even though grian half enjoyed the person who had abused & manipulated him dying ) , Grian rewinds time. 

Soon after, Sam tells him about Taurtis, someone who’s gone missing over the past couple months. Pressured into helping him, Grian goes along with the plan and the two set off to find Taurtis.

Details pending ( half bc it’s an ongoing series n also bc i haven’t caught up lmao ) , but basically in the ‘new world’, Taurtis and Grian are separated from Sam and plopped into another town. With no one left to threaten him, Grian attempts to leave Japan, but wherever he goes, it just plops him back into the town. He separates from Taurtis because he’s just as bad as Sam in his eyes ( grian does pity him a bit, though ) and moves to another part of Japan.
