Snow had swam in the lake Katniss loved. Imagine how many times Katniss had swam in that lake with her loved ones and thought it was their own little secret, somewhere only for her. When all along she was swimming over the gun that snow that dropped in there after trying to kill one of her possible relatives.

Oh how to know a part of Snow still lingers in one of her most sacred places.

Honestly the most terrifying scene in Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes #tome that no one seems to talk about is Arachne's funeral. Not just the fact that it was turned into an opportunity for propaganda, but the procession that follows. The fact they have Brandy's mangled body hanging from a crane, the rest of the twenty three tributes being paraded around in their own filth with shackles so short that they have to kneel down in hot metal in the middle of the day while everyone watches, the fact it's so utterly humiliating and twisted that it makes even Coriolanus and the Cranes' stomachs turn. And the fact that the funeral procession was very likely what eventually inspired maybe Snow, maybe Gaul, maybe someone else to suggest the tribute parade for the Opening Ceremonies years later.

No. No she doesn't. A character who explicitly appears in the narrative cannot haunt the narrative.

The character who *actually* haunts The Hunger Games's narrative is Crassus Xanthos Snow.

He stole the idea for the games from Highbottom and presented it to Gaul. He is the creator of The Hunger Games: an event that occurs over 75 consecutive years and takes thousands of lives. (A likely reason why Gaul is so drawn to Snow and thus grooms him to be her little pet).

He is a contributing factor in Snow's character development, from the Grandma'am's pressure to Tigris's final remarks. ("Snow Lands On Top" is not a saying that Coriolanus came up with on his own).

Finally, it is his fucking handkerchief that 1) saves Lucy Gray from the snakes and 2) condemns Snow to District 12 which kills both Sejanus and Lucy Gray.

thinking about cato's absolute fury. snapping the neck of the boy tribute from 3 in a fit of rage. katniss wondering if cato might not be all right in the head

thinking about sejanus. the kindest boy that coriolanus snow ever met. who cared so much about people that he went into the arena voluntarily in an attempt to martyr himself to protest the games

and after sejanus' death, children in district 2 are trained from a young age to kill. they are brainwashed to volunteer to enter the arena and kill as many of their fellow tributes as possible, and return home to bring blood and glory to their district, making district 2's legacy one of blood. snow's attempt to erase every bit of sejanus' kindness from district 2

I’m 100% sure Snow was the one to introduce tokens into the Hunger Games. Going off Lucy Gray telling him that her mother’s dress was the only thing keeping her from falling apart in the Capitol, and later that she clutched his mother’s compact in the arena so hard it left an imprint on her palm. He WANTS the tributes to anchor themselves to something, to find something to survive and fight for. Because a bit of hope turns even peaceful, optimistic folks like Lucy Gray into killers. Because it makes for a better show

it is terrifying that bear only sought to "alter" his wish rather than cancelling it but what is even more terrifying is that he wouldn't even have called the number had nikki not inconvenienced him. if she did not act in such extreme ways bear wouldn't even have a problem. which is sooooo sooooo terrifying because he was completely fine living and being "loved" by nikki who he knew wasn't the real her. he claimed to love her, but even when she started acting like a totally different person it was water off a duck's back for him. he DIDN'T CARE whether it was the real nikki or an entirely different person.

even when she begs him to kill her, he does not feel even a shred of pity for her; he only worries "is being with me that bad".

the only reason he tries to change anything is because her behavior started to scare him FREAK him out. had she acted in a meeker way, bear would've lived with her HIS WHOLE LIFE knowing she ISN'T the real nikki NOT GIVING A FUCK about what she would've wanted. PERIOD.

the more i sit with it the more i realise that the title of the movie did not refer to nikki's obsession with bear but rather his obsession with her. because i know fs that what he felt for her definitely wasn't love.

It brings me no end of joy that a Disney released theatrical Star Wars movie (which is basically DLC for a disney plus show but that's another conversation) is getting smoked in its second weekend by two low to mid budget horror movies made by first time directors in their 20s given basically blank check creative control. Things are looking good for the movies these days
