Wills first pride parade is special. Overall it's nothing to write home about with the actual parade itself, people throwing candy, people dancing and having fun, but it's the air itself.

The way that people are kind. Soft. Vulnerable. Like they're standing on a rooftop shouting to the sky about who they're in love with. Maybe the love doesn't last for the second pride parade. Maybe it's still going strong after wills 10th year in a row of going.

Regardless, he thinks that's what makes it special. There were people who disagreed heavily about the celebration. Screaming slurs, waving signs that said "Go to Hell you Sinners", but they were quickly deterred by a lesbian couple who started making out in front of them.

Will is confused as to how people can hate two people in love. He fights for gay rights. Heavily.

Robin is laying on the floor in Nancy's room. It's after season 4, and they've become friends. But robin keeps thinking that what Nancy does to her isn't platonic.

Nancy holds her hand. All the time. She talks about kissing another girl and just looks at robin. Robin is falling for Nancy but she's straight :(

Nancy is tired of robins bullshit obliviousness. Holy fuck. Nancy grabs her hand, tells her she's the most beautiful girl in the entire world, says she wants to get married to robin, and robin just thinks nancy is being a platonic girl bestie.

Will is looking at his friends at graduation. He is so proud of them, of how proud every single one of them have come. He realizes something however, as he's sitting on the flimsy plastic folding chair, there is no more upside down.

There is no more late night dnd parties. No more pizza, fighting over who gets the last slice (will always gets it because he gives Mike the puppy dog eyes which Mike falls for every time). No more going to the arcade.

No more going to the playground with his friends and swinging with Mike.

He realizes with startling clarity that he will probably only step foot in hawkins every once a year, during the holidays. And part of him breaks at the thought, but the bigger part of him heals inside.

Because he's always wanted to leave, to escape from this shitty little town.

But as turns around and looks at Mike directly in the eyes he realizes that he's going to miss his world. And that will kill him.

(Mike and Will make out later that day. Maybe just maybe Mike goes to NYC with will.)

He smiles a real smile for the first time in a while. The sun has finally set. The end of a chapter, but not the end, no, there will be more to come for sure. More stories to come. More tales.

Robin and Steve are sitting in the bathroom. He just confessed feelings for her, and because of the truth serum she can't stop the words that come out of her mouth.

"But if he knew me... Really knew me, then he'd know that I- I don't like men like that. And that throughout his whole time dating Nancy I was jealous because I wanted her to look at me."

She sits there waiting for him to say something, to make fun of her or to say something homophobic but he just sighs quietly and takes a deep breath before admitting that he likes Jonathon.

Robin can't believe her ears. They are with each other emotionally through the events of season 4 and 5 while secretly having big gay crushes on nancy and Jonathon.

When Nancy and Jonathon break up (because Nancy says that she likes robin, and Jonathon laughs and says he likes Steve)

Then they all live gay and happily ever after and there's no sadness or angst guys

Jane and max are dating. In secret. Jane is still dating Mike to give to appearance of liking boys, but every time they kiss or hug or hold hands she wishes it was max.

Mike and Will are dating. In secret. Mike is dating Jane to give the appearance of liking girls, but every time they kiss or hug or hold hands he wishes it was will.

And then one day, Mike walks in on Jane and max kissing. And he just grins and sits on the bed next to them (much to Max's annoyance) and confesses that he and Will are dating. Jane and Mike agree to keep dating but in secret date max and will (respectively).

All is well.

And then one day Mike walks in on nancy and robin making out and he just stares at them before leaving the room and roaring with laughter in the basement so loud they can hear it from Nancy's room. Nancy then, beats his ass

Max and Will are hanging out. They've become good friends, which doesn't really shock anyone.

"Do you like anyone right now" max asks will and he pauses.

"yes." He admits quietly, and max just stares at him waiting for him to keep going on if he'd like.

"she's smart. Like stupid smart. And she's a friend of mine. One of my best friends. But she doesn't feel the same way. And she's the heart of the whole group, she makes everyone shine"

Max stares at him. And knows that he's lying. Not about the crush part, he seems sincere in that regard, but about the girl part. (Look at how he dresses and tell me that's a straight teenage boy)

So max clears her throat and says, "you know will, I also have feelings for a girl. It's not bad to feel that way towards someone of the same gender."

And will just looks up with his eyes hopeful. He feels bad for lying, but he doesn't come out to max right then.

(bonus scene: when he comes out to everyone in season 5 max slides Jane 20 dollars and says "you suck" (then they kiss))

Mike and Will are dating. And everyone knows that and supports that (homotron 9000s over here) but Lucas can't help be feel jealous and he doesn't know why. He can't tell if he's jealous over Mike dating will, or if he's jealous because they're happy and in love, and while he's also happy and in love with max, he can't help but feel, strange inside.

Like he loves max he really does, but one time he had a dream about kissing Mike. And that just, did something to him. He dreamed that he and Mike were dating. They got married, and adopted two kids.

He looks up from the table, of the double date with wil and Mike and him and max and be sighs internally.

Because at least they get their happy ending while Lucas stays in love with max.

But he wishes that maybe he gets to Mike first. That would break wills heart, but deep down he hopes that Will will forgive him.

Jane is dead. Max knows that, but it doesn't quite hit her until the day after. Her friend, her more, was dead.

Maybe in another life she and Jane lived happily ever after. Maybe they got married. They have two kids that they adopted and a dog, but that doesn't happen in this one and max doesn't want to waste her life thinking of all the what ifs. She does.

When graduation happens, and they skip janes name she almost cries. She hates it. Hated this feeling, the dreaded feeling of thinking she sees Jane around and realizes with startling clarity that Jane isn't coming back.

Max goes to college in Washington. California hurts her too much, indiana isn't much better.

Max loves Jane. And Jane loved max. Funny how the universe works sometimes huh?

This is what Lucas experiences every time they're at the lake as a group.

And during breaks Jane and Dustin visit in hawkins and they on silly little dates being all sweet and cute and in love and max and Lucas go on dates with them too sometimes as a double date and stuff

Oh also Jane talks to Max about how she feels about Dustin and says "friends don't lie. I think now neither do boyfriends" (a parallel to the time in season 3 where Max says boyfriends lie)

And Dustin talks to mike about how he liked her all along and mike just smiles and says. "Yeah. I know"

Byler but it's will escaping to NYC and doing shit he loves while Mike stays behind and the first day that they're separated will cries so hard randomly.

The last hug they give each other is in Joyce's car, sitting next to each other in the back. Mike doesn't want him to leave, he's devastated.

Mike leans over and just kinda, flops onto will and will just cries into his hair while Mike sobs in his chest.

When Will gets out of the car he ofc gives Jonathon and Joyce hugs too, but then Mike barrels towards him again and will knows deep down that he is still in love with him.

When Will starts walking away from them he doesn't look back. He can't. Because if he did, if he ever did, he knows that he'd run back in a heartbeat. He wouldn't go to NYC he'd stay with Mike forever

But he must break the cycle. So off he goes.

And afterward, he's silent. He doesn't talk to anyone outside a few people. And then it hits him:

In another universe will would've confessed to mike directly instead of the whole season 5 cast. He would've just confessed to mike. As he stares out the window of his plane, crying, he wonders if mike misses him too.

It's the last time they speak.
