Pierced Cup-hilt Rapier

Dated: 17th century

Culture: Spanish

Measurements: overall length 123.5 cm

The rapier has a straight blade of hexagonal section, the first part grooved and signed "SEBASTIAN HERNANDEZ", a small tang and hemispherical cup guard richly pierced and chiselled with racemes. The border is bent toward the exterior and is decorated en suite. The circular counter-plate is hollowed and features similar chiselling and engraving. The sword has twisted quillons and guard with lenticular ends, a spinning-top-shaped pommel also chiselled and pierced and a rectangular grip chiselled and pierced en suite.
