Yes, probably, but it’s better than telling the truth — although he no doubt suspects that Light has already figured out the truth. Even so, when the other turns away, he does not divert his own gaze. Light’s words have done nothing to stop that.

A small smile travels across his lips at that for some reason. It is the downfall of most, that word. Light is glad that he isn't too curious, however, he knows L to be so. Since he's turned away from the other, he's not worried about being suspicious, but perhaps he can take away from this conversation that he needs to start acting a different way as to not be caught.
