okay so ------ i’ve been busy ( again ), and it’s a HARD KNOCK LIFE, dealing with work and summer trips and college applications. did you guys know the common app is open? get on that. what i’m saying is, is until i’m out of academic hell, bye. i’ll come back one day ! last time it took me ten months. i promise i’ll be back. szayel aporro is way too near + dear to my terrible little heart.
also, like, i will not be that missed. my dash here moves at a CRAWL. whoops.

A SWORD WAS A TOOL MADE TO CLASH AGAINST ANOTHER, for the metal edge to scrape against each other, but not for prolonged periods of time. For what little battle experience he had, the masters who had used him had used him practically, and the impact of his vessel against another blade was only for as long as the swords met in battle, to be soon torn apart by the tension of the fray.
Yet none had ever so purposefully abraded his already neglected surface, not in a way so intentionally cruel – and he could only bite his lip in a strained attempt to keep a cry from slipping past his throat, a trying show of discipline against the feeling of flaying flesh and burning bones induced by the shriek of metal upon metal. A VERY relentless action fueled by something he thought better of, though there were no negatives on his end. he’d either slay an arrancar worth notoriety or attain an asset to the empire.

the third-seat stood there– eyes now locking onto the espada. he had no intentions of causing problems, but that was hard with the male inquiring about the mess he stumbled upon. a light sigh left his lips, his pale, bony hand scratching the back of his neck. it would then drop limply to his side. he was itching to see what lurked in the octava’s domain. ( i only just got to this room– and if i was blaming you, i’d have made it clear. )
A slow breath in, then, SUDDENLY ----
“ Lumina !! Verona !! ”
He meant to startle, and even if he did not make the reaper jump, the reactions of his fracciones gave him what he wanted. They scrambled to clean before he could get the order out, giving him and his GUEST a wide berth. Turning his attention back to the shinigami, Szayel Aporro put on a thin smile, gesturing around at empty walls.
“ I am afraid you missed the SHOW . . . Everything is GONE. ”

SOUZA FLINCHED, a chill running through his spine, the sudden flick biting into his flesh and vibrating to the tips of his fingers, as the stranger toyed with the Samonji. And the mere motion set off a wave of troubles that shook him as the blade trembled in the stranger’s hands, anxiety brewing in the furthest corners of his mind, as he internally debated the morality of this personage.
But the next words brought forth a conflicted sense of relief and surprise; the humanity of the stranger would no longer be Souza’s business if he were not his blade, yes, but the very fact he had been rejected made him lift his head with interest.
“ I must admit; I have never met a soldier who has kept nothing but a single blade by their side. Your current sword must be very powerful and capable. Will your blade not greet me? It has been many a year since I have spoken to another.”
“BUT I digress. I am the uchigatana of the Three Great Unifiers of Japan, forged by the smith Samonji and titled the Symbol of Conquerors. If you wish, you will have me as your own. But otherwise, you are free to discard me as you please. I am, quite literally, in your hands.“
“ Ah ------ ! Well, it is all a matter of how COOPERATIVE she is feeling. . . ”
This was truly interesting ! He felt no pressure coming off of the spirit ( if he could truly be called that ; Szayel Aporro made a private note to figure out precise, accurate terminology for these sorts of things in the future ) like he would with a normal zanpaku-to, but it seemed sealed within a sword nonetheless.
He drew Fornicarás but did not release her -- there would be ample time later, in a proper, controlled environment, to see what kinds of ORGANS this THING possessed, to take it apart completely.
Instead, he drew the cutting edge of his sword obliquely against Souza’s dull edge with a sound like metal screeching, sharpening Fornicarás at Souza’s expense.
“ A shame ---- It would not appear she wants to PLAY. ”
She made no habit of remembering every face that passed in Las Noches; it was not her duty, nor did most of them interest her enough to gain the privilege of a fleeting bit of attention; hubris at its finest. Even now, their numbers grew by the day, shooting up like tiny seeds. It was a matter of finding those that would bloom and those that would rot– something she could, occasionally, interest herself in.
Then again, most others were mindless beasts in human form to begin with. As she stared at the other, she couldn’t help but wonder – in which category would he fall?

Even if he had not recognized her by her FACE, or her VOICE, the pressure coming off of her in waves would have warned him to hold his tongue before it got him in trouble ------
------ But he was YOUNG, still, and punch-drunk off of the power being fully-formed brought with it, and she did not seem like the AGGRESSIVE type, so he counted himself safe. ( For now. )
“ You are one of the Espada, ” he ventured, not altogether a radical assumption. Better she think he was simple than he lose his chance to surprise her.

He would strip the other man’s immunity, what he lived for with a single strike.

Only to realize the man was not even behind him, where was he? This arouse a tangibility of hysteria, desolation. Hues of burnt flint reconnoitered the area only in the venture to read, search for – a telltale hint. Eyebrows gave subliminal sort of twitch. A fluctuation of his malevolent, spiritual energy compounded the ingredient of danger that he had quite literally latched himself onto.

The smile audible in his voice, he turned the suppressors up and up and up, until even AIZEN-SAMA would feel a considerable resistance upon trying to release. Safe in his control room, Szayel Aporro’s fingers danced against dials and buttons and switches, pushing and sealing and hiding himself away.
Here, a taunting flare of his own reiatsu ; there, Lumina’s synthesized one ; there, a flash of burning green, a sample stolen and augmented.
“ I am right here, ” he said reassuringly, his reiatsu and a PERFECT hologram lining up exactly on the far side of the hall.
“ Where is that BANKAI of yours ? I am V E R Y interested, and it feels rather like you are toying with my fragile emotions. ”

HE APPEARED BEFORE HIM just as suddenly as the others did. But this one was different; the hand which touched him was of a callous, calculated intent. It was nothing like Yoshimoto’s kind graze or Nobunaga’s brutish abuse, nothing like Hideyoshi’s vengeful grip and Ieyasu’s proud handle.
So he made no assumptions, instead greeting the stranger with a smile that not meet his eyes.
“MY name is Souza Samonji, the blade you hold in your hands.”
“ARE you to be my master, curious sir?”
Hands hold the sword clinically, coldly, flicking the blade with gloved fingers and letting the muffled sound ring. It is balanced better than Fornicarás, he will give it that, but it is old, and much too short for his liking.
“ I have my OWN, thank you, though she is not N E A R L Y so polite. ”
Instinctively, his free hand went to Fornicarás’s hilt, fingertips brushing against the wrap.
“ But I have never been one to shy away from fanciful TITLES, or a good S T O R Y . ” The longer he kept this ‘ Souza Samonji ’ talking, the longer he would have to decide what to do. “ You are . . . WHAT ? ”

It was with dismay that the OCTAVA went about resetting his hallways ; the eighth tower was his to rearrange, but the whole of the city was Ichimaru’s, if he so chose, and he was powerless in the face of rank.
Rather than engage directly, he opted for a more discreet method, following with his fingertips the path of C H A O S being traced through HIS hallways and reverting it as he went. When a stubborn passage arose and his controls failed, he allowed himself a thin smile. So they HAD caught up to each other. Every time the hall went to move again, he reset it quickly, until something overrode his commands and the keys failed to respond altogether. OH, WELL. It had been fun while it lasted.
Back to WORK it was, unless there were more distractions to amuse himself with.

He did not look so bad ; not worth half the trouble everyone was put through, at the least, but Szayel Aporro was nothing if not cautious, and the tense lines of his posture did not for one moment relax.
“ I don’t suppose you are going to take kindly to ‘ FINDERS, KEEPERS ’, ” he said lightly, with a wave towards the distant smears of BLOOD that had still not been cleaned off the walls and floor, “ But you must understand ---- your allies are invaluable to me. It is unpleasant, I know, but such is life. ”
“ If Y O U withdraw, I can promise no PERMANENT damage to those two. ”
