argh, even the friends who think it's hysterical to mess with you. the other day, my husband and one of my best friends were talking about me as if i weren't there... after my friend told me to get a tissue and i cringed, my husband goes, "nope, she won't.." and my friend replied, "it's probably 'contaminated.'" .... sigh!

ugh, so true. what i would give to not be thirsty! or to make it through half the night without having to get up to pee because i've tried to quench the meds-induced thirst ..... ...oh, and the nausea? and not being able to focus because my brain's so foggy? not so fun either. pretty sad that all of this beats the slavery of ocd. :P

ugh, so true. sometimes i wish i could wear a sign that says, "yeah, i have OCD, please just ignore any weird behaviors you see...." ...but i know that would only attract more attention! :P

haha i brace myself so much when i know i'm going to be touching certain people (or a lot of people). sometimes i even plan my outfits accordingly so that they're ones that can be easily washed later .. :P

the worst one for me is when i'm not even sure what i touched. it just felt suspicious. like the strangely greasy handle of a public door, or after a handshake with someone's probably-dirty hand, or sitting near someone who looks like they have dandruff :(

I totally disagree with the anon! I find the idea extremely interesting, because the OCD daily life is hard, indeed! So why not to make some fun out of it? Part of the problem is that people exaggerate a lot and tag all OCD patients as nuts and crazy. Part of the problem is the people have stigmas! I like this blog for desmystifying it!

thanks so much for your response :) i'm glad it's providing the intended commiseration! .......and you're completely right. i mean, i suppose OCD does have a humorous side to it. especially because, unlike most mental illnesses, even the people suffering from it can see the disconnect from rationality (as opposed to, say, those with depression or PSTD or schizophrenia .. these things are very real to these individuals and often even have causes based in reality). but still, it's much more rare to find people taking the same degree of lightness with other mental health issues. i think that leave people thinking that you can't have OCD unless it's obvious to the general observer (and thus, people with OCD should 'look crazy' if they 'really have it'). the thing is, i'm fairly convinced that OCDers are some of the best hiders out there. we could go on for years, getting by with various coping mechanisms, and each year learning how to be more discrete. anyway, end-ramble-here :P thanks again for your comments!

oh man, i've definitely intentionally "dropped" my silverware at restaurants when something was wrong with it (or someone touched it) ... and proceeded to say things like, "ah, sorry! my fork fell on the floor .. could i possibly have another one?"

yes.... so true. :( i try to find discrete ways to do it, or to hold of 'til that person is out of view, but it's so stressful, but i don't want to offend them, but but .... yeah.

I don't want to sound truly awful, but I find the phrase 'OCD-isms' incredibly offensive. I also feel like this blog is trivialising OCD and giving people who don't have the disorder a chance to 'pretend' they have it....

But the thing is, that's the exact reason I started the blog. I have OCD myself, and was tired of reading about people flippantly saying "I'm so OCD!" ... hence the first post on this blog (http://27.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lzppt1PBwM1rq4o2yo1_500.jpg) .... Also, it is not meant to trivialize OCD symptoms, but to add some humor to our daily lives, and possibly even some empathy about things that are frustrating but we have little power to stop. I needed an outlet to vent about my OCD, which is why I created this blog in the first place. Please don't read "OCDisms" as "things-that-sound-OCD-ish-but-really-aren't" ... it's meant to read as "things pretty much only people with OCD (or maybe Tourette's or various anxiety disorders or even depression) and those who are close to them will truly understand."I hope this helps.
