HIATUS NOTICE

Her eyes shifted away from Ben’s as she glanced down at the ground. “Well, what have you been doing? Arguing a lot or something?” She asked, fiddling with the edge of her skirt. “Or really just teasing? Is it worse than that? Are you two still together?”
“No. I mean, we might playfully tease each other sometimes. I want her to take it easy, last time, she tried pretending and she just couldn’t do that. It’s not easy, I know that, and she’s so new to it all… I just, if its going to be better for her to try and just learn Auradon without being my girlfriend, without the paparazzi and court hearings, I want to make sure she has every chance.”

Uma froze for a moment, relistening to what Ben had just said. The moment she came out of her stunned state, she nodded. “Mal can handle stress, and more than that. Obviously she can handle heartbreak twice-over, as you must have seen before. So don’t worry, you’re not going to hurt your Lady at all. Maybe just annoy her, a lot.”
“Didn’t expect that?” Ben asked as he saw her face tighten in surprise, freezing up as she thought about what he asked. He nodded. Though Mal was the one who left, and broke up with him after, he knew what happened the night at Cotillion must have hurt her so bad. “I can handle annoying her if she can handle me.”

She tsked, weighing the pros and cons. “Alright, I’ll help you.” She said, crossing her arms over her chest. “What do you need to know about the perfect purple princess?” Didn’t they already know enough about each other? Mal and Ben might be from Auradon, yes, but Uma had always thought of the two of them as… well, good.
“She’s a Lady,” Ben frowned, “Sorry. I guess that’s not important right this moment. I just… I’m worried. The stress of leadership has been hard on my parents, but mom did a lot of research, and she’s careful and thoughtful. Not that Mal isn’t thoughtful. But I know you’re a leader, on your ship, that takes people skills. I want to know, if you think the stress is something Mal can handle. Last time she pretended, but I need to know if I’m… if this is going to keep hurting her.”

She blinked for a moment, processing the king’s words. “What is it? What do you need to know?” Uma tilted her head to the side, thinking of everything she knew about Mal. “Couldn’t you ask Evie?”
“I… I could ask Evie. But I feel like its a bias source.” Ben shrugged. “I know you two have had problems… a lot of them. But that doesn’t mean I can’t take your words with a grain of salt, and you probably won’t give a glowing review for nothing.”

Under her breath, Uma laughed slightly, confused as why anyone would talk to her, of all people, about MAL. “Are you two having problems?” She teased lightly, but really not saying much.
“Wh-? That’s not it.” Ben shook his head. He didn’t want to talk to Uma about this, but talking to Evie, or Carlos, would just… not make sense. “I just wanted to ask you something. About her. If that was okay.”
She blinked for a moment, processing the king’s words. “What is it? What do you need to know?” Uma tilted her head to the side, thinking of everything she knew about Mal. “Couldn’t you ask Evie?”

Her hand darted towards the boy’s pocket to steal something she saw GLIMMERING there, lips curving into a slight smile as she nicked it, slipping the bracelet into the pocket of her coat, turning to run.
