i decided to give mimi shorts under the dress because i used to dress like that on vacation as a kid...
her backpack is inspired by those little glass bottles of sand and mini seashells you can get from souvenir shops in vacation towns!
goyp's funny, the seaweed fur was straightforward enough but i felt like he didn't have enough going on with his head, but he's at an angle where not much of his head is showing, so i decided to just make him sand-textured lol

i thought about adding a big eye on goyp's belly to give his design a little kir.by final boss flavor but it made him look too creepy imo.
his scarf being the wings is a nod to this old sketch from @dindandiny -- i don't think they were intended to look like wings but i always think they are until i do a double take.

design notes: really hit a wall with mimi's design on this one; i couldn't get a bath robe to look right, and a towel poncho would look weird with her backpack, so i went with sort of a raincoat vibe and made her sleeves like those detergent pods. her wire tail's a little sprinkler thingy and her monitor is a nod to those aqua mice with things floating inside -- i know there's some soap containers like that too.
goyp, on the other hand, was incredibly easy; the loofah is just too good lol

design notes: did you pick up on how mimi's patches are goyp-colored and vice versa on goyp? :3 friends let friends patch each other up!
i exaggerated the ribbon and added lace on mimi's dress to give her kind of a "dolly" look.
goyp's yarn fluff came out looking quite good... i considered normal fur or stuffing, but i think this is the most plushie-looking option!

design notes: on mimi, the blue glitter charger backpack was one of the first things i came up with! the dress is somewhat inspired by rosalina, specifically one of her alt colors from smash :3
i was considering making goyp's fur into a nebula cloud but i thought it would be a bit much. i think this simpler approach works better!

backstory: mimi is the main character of an edutainment game called Mew School. her classmates didn't like her much, and after y2k prevented anyone from playing the game, they kicked her out into cyberspace because they got sick of mew repeating dialogue. luckily, mew found better friends out there, and is learning much more about the world!
she LOVES giving tutorials and hints and will even rehearse them to herself when she's alone, but luckily her best friend goyp (designed by my irl best friend, @dindandiny!) is often happy to lend an ear even if it's about something he's not interested in.
hobbies: reading, practicing/studying for tutorials, singing, playing games (puzzle games & pet sims are mews favorites), drawing, pretending to be a magical girl/cat/magical catgirl, watching her favorite vhs tapes 50000 times
personality: expressive, smart, friendly, and patient. nerdy little kid who loves to infodump but loves to listen too. thinks she's cute (and she's right!). fairly timid, though; has a hard time taking criticism, and easy to scare.

backstory: goyp is an easter egg from the action game Sneaker the Spinosaur: Adventure. if you find him you MUST play a minigame on his phone. these minigames are widely regarded as the worst part of StSA and goyp is everyone's least favorite character.
one day he had enough and stole Sneaker's sneakers, and also Scarf the Stego's scarf, running away to be the star of his own game. he didn't have much luck convincing anyone he was a protagonist, until he met mimi!
she eventually found out the truth, but it made them closer friends when they realized both of them were outcasts. now goyp goes on adventures and does gaming with his new best friend mimi and it's rare to see them apart!
hobbies: gaming (mobile, console, handheld, you name it), movies, drawing, hiding, telling tall tales, learning about dinosaurs
personality: generally appears apathetic and is often playing games on his phone rather than paying attention. his interests really grab him, though, and he's always glad to hear from mimi. he's a bit of a habitual liar and can sometimes be a little gremlin, but he usually backs off quickly.
likes: mac n cheese, ketchup, the combination of both. also dinosaurs, birds, scary things, old phone games, repetitive games in general.
his favorite video game is diggy's dig-down, a button-mashing race where you play as a shovel.
dislikes: dolls, marionettes, most authority figures, mazes, message boards, needing to do a lot of writing/reading (he has dyslexia)
