enobaria shrugs. “i could ask you the same question,” she says. the number of capitolites in district thirteen is startlingly low, but still more than the number of former district two citizens — as far as enobaria could tell, she and lyme were the only ones from back home. it was something enobaria tried not to think about.

and it wasn't as though she wasn't grateful for being rescued — district thirteen, despite the rules and tight quarters and generally being underground, was better than the capitol had been. but enobaria would have given anything for the taste of bread from home. for the sound of an accent from home.

she no longer had her accent — the academy had made sure of that. but she still slipped into it, sometimes, when she was tired or angry.

“so, what's a capitolite like you doing here? didn't you have a nice, cushy job as a games doctor?”
