i don't know that rohanne would ultimately have gone quietly into exile without aegor - she was 100% in support of daemon from the moment he said he wanted to take the throne and she would have cut daeron's throat herself for his death and her sons' if she could have - but she would have stopped after losing daemon the younger. if the death of her husband and the twins lit a fire in her, his capture and death put it back out for a while. but overall she's a lot more vengeful with aegor than she would likely have been without him and, sadly, she sees that as a good thing.
around the time of her marriage vs close to the rebellion
Hi, what do you think of the statement that "Daemon must have an unusually strong sex drive because Daemon and Rohanne have many children"? This completely portrays the wife as a "passive receiver of her husband's sexual desire," but I don't think Rohanne played that role in their marriage 🤔
I think these people need to consider they’re speculating on the sex drive of this kid as if it’s normal:
(This is NFL QB Trevor Lawrence, receiving an Underclassman Award at age 13, the same age as Daemon was when he married Rohanne. That Lawrence was 6’4 at the time and already received national recognition as an athlete doesn’t change the fact that he looks like and was a child)
The fact that nobody in fandom really is disturbed on Daemon’s behalf for siring twins at age 13 and becoming a father at 14 (whereas plenty are grossed out at Viserys II/Larra) speaks to the double standard between how many view Blackfyres and Targs. Even Yandel—by no means a Blackfyre supporter, to the point that he calls Bl00draven a “capable Hand”—believed that D2 had the marriage take place too early, “for all that Ser Daemon was all of fourteen” (which was confirmed incorrect, as Daemon was born late in the year 170 but was married early in the year 184, meaning he was 13). We are told repeatedly that being of age is 16, but that didn’t matter to D2 who didn’t care he was a minor but just wanted him gone. Consummating the union seemingly immediately and then having so many children (suspicious 5 year age gap between the twins and Daemon II notwithstanding) afterward does not (on the face of it at least; it’s entirely possible Rohanne could’ve had hyperovulation and had multiple births other than the twins) seem to me to be an indicator of healthy sexuality. Daemon’s tragedy is that he was forced to grow up too fast in a country ruled by a person who hated him simply for how he was born. His sons dying also before their time for no reason other than their father makes it a House tragedy. I’m believe that if Daemon had the choice, he wouldn’t have married nor had children that young (you could use the twins-Daemon II age gap to support this, although I believe Calla and another sister were born in those years).
I think you’re essentially correct about Rohanne, and it’s a double standard where she’s considered the passive partner whereas Larra Rogare is portrayed as an older instigator (despite Viserys’ conversation with Munkun not supporting this, although again I think V/L is unhealthy and V2 had a warped idea of sexuality due to his early marriage). There is heavy implications due to her giving birth with seemingly few complications and all of her sons living past infancy, that she was at least a few years older than Daemon (mothers at 14 in ASOIAF like Florys Baratheon or Aemma Arryn usually have childbirth complications) I believe the Blackfyre fertility came from her side, as Targs notoriously have trouble with stillbirths and dying in infancy. It doesn’t make sense for Rohanne (again not assuming hyperovulation) to keep having sex in a way that would produce children if she didn’t want them (and divorce is easier for her than most Westerosi noblewomen, having a family in Essos who actually likes her). She and Daemon are two (I believe) teenagers in a really bad situation if you think about it; it does make sense for them to cling to each other for comfort, with friendship and love coming in time. There’s a few indications that Rohanne influenced Daemon even before the rebellion (you can check out the rest of my tag on her for possible evidence) so I don’t think she was just a passive recipient of sexual desire/convenient mother of the Blackfyre children, but an active participant in building the family not that I think they only had sex when they wanted children but did other things when Rohanne was pregnant
I hope this makes sense and doesn’t come across as too contradictory, but “Daemon got married too young and that had consequences wrt sexuality” and “Rohanne and Daemon grew to have a loving, supportive relationship” can coexist in my mind.
the fact that daemon blackfyre had two kids named aemon and aegon. the fact that they were their father's squires, twin children in the redgrass fields, that aemon died grasping blackfyre and aegon was shot down by bloodraven's arrows. the fact that they were known as bullies. and still. they were children. they were twelve. they died by their father's side. they were twelve and their younger brother hated them. and maekar smashed the army to pieces. and maekar named his next sons after them. a little aemon, a little aegon. took the old valyrian names back into the rightful lineage, so it was as if they had never existed at all, really. might as well not have. do you guys think egg ever used a little practice shield in king's landing with aegon scratched in the back. do you think aemon read from the same books in the same nursery. do you think maekar did it to spite daemon from the grave. do you think it was as close to pity as he ever got. do you think rohanne of tyrosh heard about her children's cousins and threw something against a wall.
