“i don’t need an approach, lia. my charm is enough.” he was doubting it as he said it, since he was clearly struggling. maybe he did need a new way to go about it, but what a bruise to his ego that would be. “ah, no, not derrick. i’m betting with cam, actually. so if you gave me your work number, he wouldn’t know the difference.” kemp looked away when he mentioned their name, already knowing that alicia won’t be a fan. he was quick to change the subject, not wanting to dwell on the topic of cam any longer — he didn’t need her to tell him off. “i’m realizing that my heart is not in it. i won’t ever call any of them and ask them out, you know? i think i got caught up in the idea of a fun bet.”
💋
Her eyes narrow playfully as a brow raises up ever so slightly. She didn’t need to say anything, that look said enough, and she laughs anyways. “Whatever you say.” Her laugh is cut short as he brings Cam up, and at any other moment she would be ready to chew him out. But, she supposed she had more tact. Shrugging, she simply tilts her head. “Josh knows, right?” It was all she needed to ask, because god knows Kemp needed more help against them. “Here then.” She pulled out her work phone and texted Kemp a here’s my number :) for his sake. She nods, shrugging in response. “Well we aren’t in college anymore. Maybe it’s worth it only having one person to chase instead.”

“you can be my plus one,” he played along. with alicia’s time split between dc and new york, josh found himself spending more time with her parents than before. not that he ever complained, josh was closer to len rivera than his own father and nadia rivera had been present for several major life moments. “revenge is in the air. i wouldn’t want to be dempsey right now,” he commented, inferring based on what massie and kristen shared in the group chat. personally, he had no plan on reviving it especially after the fundraiser, but he didn’t remember accepting the responsibility of handling dempsey. “obviously,” he grinned, understanding perfectly what she was implying. it’s never been a question of if with alicia, rather it’s always been a matter of when. “how does it feel to have the whole crew back together again? is it like old times with kristen and dylan?” he asked.
💋
“What an honor.” She laughed softly under her breath, though it was clear she didn’t mind. Though she was glad he would be around to keep an eye on them for her, Alicia was also glad her parents did the same for him. Though her family’s ulterior motives have been well documented, it was never malicious. “Oh, I know right? Maybe that’s what I’ve been picking up.” She paused then to sip on the champagne, a hand raising over her chest. “But if you need me to shut down any bullshit so you get your moment, I will.” To anyone else, it could’ve been seen as too much or her being petty, but she was one of his biggest supporters. And he deserved his recognition. His question brings a smile to her lips, lighting up differently than she normally did. “It’s actually been really great. Not like old times, but better. Dylan’s been so great, I can tell Kristen needed some kind of break and like when she and I go out it’s so fun but having Dylan and Claire all around’s exactly what we needed.”

“ ugh finally. ” claire was so grateful to get the hell away from harrington. the minutes stuck in an uber with him were some of the slowest minutes of her life — and she didn’t even want to come to this brunch in the first place. this was all just a favor for an old friend. the only good thing about it was her friends being here. “ oh, it was definitely his fault. i know, i know. i should have. but i already had that hotel room and i feel bad about canceling. ” trying to reason why she didn’t stay — that and claire didn’t want to be a burden once more. she looked over at their host and gave a light smile before turning back to alicia, “ ha ha. very funny. dempsey is just an old friend. speaking of old friends, where is the ex and a downgrade of a fiancée? i wanna see for myself at how much he lost out. ”
💋
“It’s okay, hun. But come over later! You don’t need to stay but it could be fun to destress with everyone.” She smiles warmly, making sure Claire knew she of course had a choice but she was always wanted either way. It really wasn’t the same without having her around, and she already felt better knowing Claire was actually here now. “Ugh, hopefully some vegan stuff is still around for you. The nerve of NYC traffic!” As she spoke, Alicia led them both towards the vicinity where Michael had been dealing with the red wine stains on his white pants. “Uh huh, you can do better than dumpty anyways. She gestured to her ex, a small, mean smile on her lips. “Looks like he had a bit of an accident.”

alicia always did have a fondness for purse dogs, dylan thought as she sipped her mimosa. it’s not she didn’t like the people she dated, because honestly dylan learned a long time ago it was best to avoid meddling in that aspect of her friends’ lives. instead, she was just tired of hearing about people who couldn’t keep up with alicia. “looks more like he downgraded,” she winked. “remember what we did at the astor wedding junior year?” she asked. even now, she argued what she and alicia did to the cheating groom was fair game. plus who still wore white tuxes in the 21st century?
💋
Alicia couldn’t help the brightened smile at Dylan’s compliment. It wasn’t that she wasn’t thinking the same, but it was nicer hearing it from one of her girlies rather than ruminating about it herself. It had been a while since she was content in a relationship for the most of it, she’d have to revisit some of her choices next time she dates someone. “I agree. But you didn’t hear it from me.” She playfully smirked before both brows raise in realization. “How could I forget? He looked so tacky anyways.” She scoffed, nodding slightly. “I guess history may repeat itself for someone else tonight.”
massieb:
WHEN: 6 june 2020 WHERE: synthesis launch party @ the brooklyn botanic garden WHO: @ofaliciarivera
It took all of Massie’s willpower to not drink the bar dry. It was cruel to force her to converse with her former classmates, who all were acting as if they were her equals now that they were no longer stuck in a rigid high school hierarchy. Sure, Massie wasn’t the Queen B(itch) of OCD anymore, but that didn’t mean she wanted to play catch-up with Sadie Meltzer, who had trapped her in a conversation just to prove that she was as obnoxious as ever.
“I can’t believe Alicia’s boobs somehow got even bigger since high school. I heard that she got them done by the same doctor who did Heidi. Is it true that she always stuffed her bras in sch—?”
And here Massie thought that she was done with the hallway gossip. “Do I look like I write for Page Six?” Massie snapped, cutting Sadie off mid-sentence. It sounded like the set-up for a classic Massie Block insult, but unlike Sadie, Massie had grown up since high school. For the most part. And Sadie wasn’t worth the punchline. Giving her nothing more than an eye roll, Massie turned away from Sadie with the clear intent on leaving the embarrassing conversation. Only to come face-to-face with Alicia, who had been well within earshot for who knows how long.
💋
Alicia was working. It may not have been the hard hitting story she wanted, but to Dempsey’s credit, it wasn’t something completely vapid. Even if she had her reservations regarding him, an Elle magazine piece wasn’t something to scoff at. It was why she was happy to discuss the impact this business could have on the environment and why such a change was necessary with one of Dempsey’s PR people.
Yet she could hear Sadie’s shrill voice ringing in her ears as she got the agent’s statement. The gossip mill always ran strong, and it seemed like most of her peers still kept up with old high school gossip. Nothing surprising, and she supposed her fake boob job was one of the least damning things to be discussing. Especially considering the ghosts lurking around her family home.
She wanted to respond to make Sadie’s blood run cold, a simple no, honey. You all were just copying me. But Sadie didn’t need the satisfaction. It was in fact Massie who shut it down, and Alicia could hear it all. The PR agent had since left, but Alicia had an amused look on her face as she and Massie met face to face. “For the record, the stuff on your blog was way better than Page Six anyways.”

“well, i did run into your mom earlier. she invited me over for dinner this weekend,” he quipped, his mouth curved into a smile at their inside joke. that’s just how he always felt when he was with alicia. even when they were surrounded in a crowd of people, she had a way of capturing all his attention and of making forget the rest of the world. “they’ll be forgotten by next week,” he joked with her as they continued to walk along the pond, “when was the last time you met someone wearing philosophy?” frankly, he did like michael. admittedly, josh had his doubts about the perfume heir, but alicia could handle herself and she was happy which was what mattered.
💋
“Oh, did she invite me this time or is she hanging out with her favorite”“ She laughs, a playful roll of her eyes at her mother’s antics. Her quest to secure the most attractive Rivera bloodline was just as ambitious as Alicia’s drive for her career. Still, it was their joke. No matter how long it had been since they last saw each other, she easily slipped back in step with Josh. “Oh I know,” she grinned, a self-satisfied meanness alight in her eyes. She didn’t need to meddle, but there was always a rush in being right. “We’ll see. I’m still making my mind up.” She shrugged, her hand sliding up to take his arm like they normally did. Despite her reservations, she supposed this part of Brooklyn really could be beautiful. With the right company, of course. “It’s for the best, we all know where we’ll end up.”

when cam steps out and catches sight of alicia there they immediately wish they hadn’t. but as they’ve come to learn, it’s nearly impossible to escape their former classmates. cam should know, he tried for a whole year. “good afternoon to you too, alicia,” the smile perched on his face is nothing if not fake. he knows very well what alicia thinks of him and despite the fact that cam had no problems with her, they’re way past the point of being civil with each other.
“i know you guys like to believe you own everything but this is a public park.” they raise a hand to shift their sunglasses from their eyes to the top of their head. “so you can pretend you’re me if you’d like and take your own suggestion.”
💋
All she could see was red and the various things she should do to him. If looks could kill, Cam would be petrified to stone but the dazzling smile on her face felt permanently etched on. The little details mattered, like how her fingers gripped too tightly at her wine glass, or the flush to her cheeks more from frustration than the wine. Her grievance wasn’t directly personal, but let it be known one did not hurt Alicia’s loved ones and got away with it.
“Looks like nothing’s changed, still not realizing that you shouldn’t even be showing your face anywhere till you actually learn from your actions.” She sighs in mock exasperation, as if she truly pitied him. “Did you hit your head recently? Because I know you aren’t trying to talk to me like that and expect to leave unscathed.”

if he was keeping count, that would be the fourth time he’s been turned down at this brunch so far. but he wasn’t. kemp heaved a sigh and started mentally preparing himself for the next person, until alicia suddenly appeared. startled, he stumbled backwards. “fuck, alicia, you scared me,” recollecting himself, he cleared his throat and stood up straight, his head held high. “no, no, it was a just minor setback. nothing to worry about,” he smiled at her, before lowering his voice to avoid being heard by others. “how many numbers do you think i can get today? it’s for a bet.”
💋
Maybe when she was younger would Alicia be confused with his reaction upon seeing her. But, she had this effect on men anyways. Alicia raised a brow at his question lips pursing in amusement. “That depends, what’s your approach? If you win me over, maybe I’ll give you my work number. And if Derrington- because it’s his idea isn’t it, right? Anyways if he says it doesn’t count, just send him my way.” She knew that if anyone could get Derrick to concede, it was her. The affect she had on the man was strange to outsiders, but Alicia knew it was useful. “A minor setback? I saw you get rejected like three other times. Is this really your vibe, Kemp?”

brunch was as crucial to dylan’s plans for the weekend as last night’s trip to onyx, the newest speakeasy on the nightlife scene. even so, launch parties typically weren’t her scene. in fact, this morning she had a good laugh when she learned alicia and kristen were also headed to brooklyn. for dempsey solomon of all people, but there was a singer attending she hoped to innocently run into today at the party. “he’s nice,” she interjected, looking up once the heinous pair finally left their table. she was quite familiar with man seated on the other side of table, having seen his face several times on instagram before alicia did a cleanse. “reminds me of a chihuahua,” she said blasely. “did you see her burberry bag?”
💋
Alicia’s eyes playfully narrowed at Dylan’s jab, though she was aware that Dylan was also being sarcastic. “Yes! That’s exactly it. I was thinking about which bitchy little dog he’s like.” She grinned, finally feeling a little bit better since sitting down. “Always nice, always looking out for the next big thing. I’m not surprised he’s here.” She shrugged, before her lips purse in amusement with a nod. “I was wondering if someone was going to get punched. Can we talk about the white pants? How brave.”

date & time: june 6th 2020, 1:14 PM location: brooklyn botanic garden availability: closed @ofaliciarivera
some would visiting the rivera home to check on alicia’s parents after the fundraiser was overkill, but checking in was the right thing to do. of course, his mother had decided to visit due to her close friendship with nadia rivera. admittedly, he was more worried about alicia who had disappeared back into work. “how is michael?” he asked, a seemingly harmless question if wasn’t for the information he had been fed by alicia about the perfume heir. “shame, on his plus one. i heard she was engaged to a vanderbilt last year,” he added, letting alicia connect the dots for herself.
If there was one thing she was grateful for, it was how Josh always seemed to arrive at the right time for her. You wouldn’t be able to tell that she was silently ruminating on how to ruin at least three people’s lives at that very moment, but the gears had been turning since she found her seating placement. Taking a sip from her glass, her expression softened immediately upon seeing Josh. Greeting him with a quick kiss to his cheek, Alicia shrugged. “Does anyone need to speak for ten minutes on baby planning?” She knew she’d brush it off, until josh gave her his perfect little gift. “Oh?” She raises a brow, an amused smile now gracing her features. “I can’t quite tell if she downgraded or not then. I’m sure you’ll be seeing an expose soon enough.”
SPOTTED: ALICIA RIVERA AT THE SYNTHESIS LAUNCH PARTY
Alicia Rivera did not go to Brooklyn voluntarily. She’d go to chase a story, and the last person she’d go for is Dempsey of all people. But, she had a deal with Elle to write a story about his little start up and she supposed this was better than having no story to write up this week in general. Rumor has it that a certain perfume heir may be getting wine spilled all over his white pants, but that’s just a rumor after all.
@solardvst
“Claire!” Alicia whisper-shouts as soon as she saw her friend enter venue. Her arm slides through Claire’s, immediately guiding her away from Derrick. “How did that happen again? I mean I’m sure it was his fault somehow. God I wished you stayed over last night. At least if we got stuck in an Uber together, we’d have more fun.” A quiet I told you so, but she didn’t mean any malice behind it. Had this been in high school, well. Good thing they weren’t. “I swear to god Dumpty is going to get a nose bleed looking at you though.”
@opalescvnce
If she was being honest, being around Dempsey in any sense made her uncomfortable. She didn’t want to see the dopey look on his face or his questions about what happened with Layne at the Rivera house. But it seemed like he had more than enough of his share of mimosas, and Alicia was reminded why she preferred Moscow mules now. “Hey you,” Alicia greets her current temporary roommate, handing Kristen a glass. “Ten bucks says he’ll be redoing junior year again.”
@rvnaissances
“What are you up to?” Alicia asks with a raised brow and an amused look. The tulip garden was a nice area, but Kemp seemed to have struck out trying to get a socalite’s number. Which Alicia of course saw. it may seem like she had snuck up behind Kemp, but the facts were she was just too short and quiet for him to have noticed her presence. Poor guy. “Do you need pointers again? Kemp Hurley striking out? Should I make that into a twitter thread?”
@gcldenheart
With all the weirdness and little issues that seemed to stem for what seems like everyone, Alicia was at least glad that despite losing her lead, she at least was here for a work related reason. She was covering the event for Elle magazine, writing about the positive effect the products will have on the environment so it wasn’t a total loss. Alicia tried not to go to Brooklyn if she could help it, but despite how much she loves Manhattan, the botanical gardens were unmatched. She left the atrium for the Steinhardt conservatory to observe the various tropical plants that could grow in the warmer environment where she saw Chris. “Hey,” she greets with a small smile, still a bit unsure how to navigate him without the others- but she was learning more and more. “Did you see Kori? Talk about a glow up, right?”
