So for a little no more was said, but the Lady Elaine ever gazed upon her Sir Lancelot where he stood with his back to her, and after a while she said, “ Ah Lancelot! Lancelot!” Upon that Sir Lancelot turned him about and cried out, “Elaine, bid me stay and I will stay!” but she said, “Nay, I bid thee not, I bid thee go.”
RE: LANCELOT - On Guinevere pt 1/?
There is no Arthur without Guinevere or Lancelot. There is no Lancelot without Guinevere. Arthur, for Lancelot, starts off as this beacon of an idealized self. Arthur lets Lancelot be who he wants to be and fuels his myth as the Greatest Knight in the World. Camelot, for all its greatness and grandeur, builds its own myth.
But Lancelot's noble self and dedication to his King and best friend falls to the wayside when it comes to Guinevere. There is no line between man and myth-- there is only the myth. She has never seen him fail. She has seen him perform 'miracles' and stood by that narrative.
She fuels the solipsism of his being. Arthur was his friend first, his King second, then his rival, and finally his enemy. There is remorse for what he did to one of the only true friendships he's had, but its quickly lost because in some sense, Lancelot had won. He has Guinevere. She loves him, she chose him. He can't in good conscious think that Arthur was anything other than another ruler by the time Guinevere goes to the pyre. He knows that if they had truely been friends, he wouldn't have stolen or bedded his wife.
He lives with the knowledge that they made this bed together and they are going to lie in it together. They do not think its wrong because they chose each other. it's love in the basest of senses. He does not see her flaws or her imperfections. She is simply THE Queen and all of her is her best self. Just as he's certain she only sees the good in him.
At the first touch of the reality of the work that a relationship takes to maintain it falls apart. She gets jealous, he act irrationally. He hates it so much when she shows love for her husband because he knows in the night she'll come back to him and say she loves him. When they do get caught he leaves her, but in the only act of heroism he can, raises an army to save her and does this impossible task.
The relationship doesn't last beyond this. This is when the fighting starts. When every overlooked flaw and moment of abuse comes to the surface. This is where the power imbalance comes to a head and is at its worst because the tables have turned and Guin no longer has any power at all.
Lancelot only gives up on winning this war against Arthur when she admits she doesn't love him. Because Guinevere cannot be without Arthur nor Lancelot, but Lancelot cannot be at all without Guinevere.
RE: LANCELOT - A Man and His Myth
Ban of Benwick had made an impossible task of building his castle along the River Lot in Gaul. The construction of the castle on poor soil and eroding ground was the last straw for his reign. He was not a king to be revered, and often is remembered in tales only by his death. Little has been done to correct the narrative, even if the manner of his demise is lost to legends. The fact remains: only his name was worth remembering.
The rebellion not only ended the reign of Ban, but sought to tear down his castle, leaving a ruin along the river. What remains of this tale is that the Queen of the Castle, in motherly devotion to the life of her son, throws her baby over the parapet and into the river to be raised by The Lady of the Lake.
The truth of such matter involvde avoiding defilement and throwing the infant over the walls if only for her own self preservation. The Queen lived. without the cries of a child her life was able to be secured.
Her name, as the legends will prescribe, is of little importance. Mothers are often murdered. Their role in the story is over after the hero is born. There is little need for her influence or her wisdom. She lived and died a mother, only the vehicle for the hero, her son. Whether her name was Elaine, Helene, or Clarine, hardly matters. Her purpose is done.
This is why the queen survived. She thought of herself. Her life. and in the aftermath of that rebellion lived with the bodies and the rubble of the castle. She was not, however, mad. No, her mind was sane-- as sane as any war torn person could be. She was as sane as any person who refused to leave a bombed home could be.
She was the Queen, after all, and she would rule. it didn't matter if her subjects were carcasses in her halls. It didn't matter the castle lay abandoned.
Denial and a self made myth were precious armor.
She did keep one person at her side. Her son, she often said. Where he came from, whether a new apprentice to serve the castle, or plucked from a beggars arms, was unknown. This was the boy to replace the one thrown. This was the boy she denied throwing. This was Ban's son.
This was simply a boy. He called himself Alan.
Rivers are not shallow forever. They rise, they fall, and they change. The river rose up the the steps of the decrepit castle and soon surrounded it. Soon stories rose up about it. Only ghosts lived there. A witch presided over it. Don't enter lest you be swept away by the fairies. The Lady has taken residence there, do you not see her lake?
It is only a glimpse to the Otherworld and the Lady of the Lake rules over it.
Abandoned places, or those thought to be, are not often left unattended. A Knight and his squire decided to camp there. At least, this is what they told Alan. The armor is rusted and the Knight is old.
His squire only has one arm.
The claim is that this is the Greatest Knight in the entire world, and it is a visit to this auspicious place that will solidify that. This knight promises to champion the Queen if only they can stay. They do not mind the bones in the halls or the dilapidation she totes as grandeur.
Stories only grow. This is how they become legendary.
Soon, Alan steps outside of his Queen's story. A knight could go places and see things. All that he must do is learn. The knight stays. The knight is tired. yet he teaches his squire. Alan watches, steps in, and learns.
The squire tells stories of an Isle across the sea. Of swords in stones and stolen duchesses. The stories speak of a Giants Dance and an immortal wizard who lives in every court. There is a myth in the making. There is the truth.
Knights do not serve forever. Queens do not go on ruling. Death comes loudly as it does in solemn whispers. A boy loses the only mother he has known. A squire loses his knight.
A Knight leaves the castle. He brings with him his Squire.
The armor is shined, money is found. They leave for the isle.
There are new stories, a new King, likewise seeking to rule all of Briton. His stories sound true. A knight without a story is hardly one at all. There are battles to be fought, people to be saved. it is better to let stories be believed. This knight is Alan of the River Lot. On the Isle the words are changed, there is french, english, and even the dregs of what once was said to be the tongue of the Roman Empire.
Names become lost in translation. Alan of the River Lot. Alanus-à-Lot. Lancelot.
He is the son of the good King Ban, raised by the Lady of the Lake to be the Greatest Knight in the World. He has never been defeated, and looks to serve within the halls of the True King Arthur.

NEED TO KNOWS
I don't ship the OT3. I also don't really ship Arthur with Guinevere, so this is something that needs plotted and chemistry. Guinevere is very important to Arthur, and their marriage falling apart is a significant part of his story.
Inogen was another ward of Merlin's and something he set in place for his many plans for Arthur. Arthur doesn't know Merlin orchestrated their meeting or their marriage. He intended them for each other. Arthur falls apart when she dies. Erayne is her daughter( Merlin foresaw a son).
his remaining children are all illegitimate and his relationship with their mothers vary. He leaves it up to their mothers if they stay with him or if they leave court. His closest relationship was with Lionor, who is the daughter of an earl. The son he knows least about is Indeg's boy Llachu, however he does know that the boy became a great hero in Ireland.
His last wife, Seleucia, belongs to Avalon and is the one to take him to the Isle.
RE: GUINEVAK-- The Formation of the Kingdom of Cameliard.
Ogfran the Merchant began his business in trade during the reign of King Constantine II of Lloegyr and King Caradocus of Dumonia. The Kingdoms of Cymry and Albany lie farther north and face their upheavels and disorder. He began with the venture of trading stories for trinkets, trinkets for coins, and so on and so forth till the trading set him up as a well-standing citizen of the Isle despite his trades lacking any moral alignment. if he could be traded or sold, then he would get the job done.
It was said that this is how he obtained his wife.
With this newfound wealth Ogfran began to trade for land particularly along the River Camel and established the city of Camelford along this river in Dumonia. It is here that he has his son Leodegrans.
By the time of Constantine II assassination and his eldest son's, Constans, ascension, and the passing of King Caradocus of old age, leaving his son Felix to rule Leodegrans had taken up his father's business and declared himself Lord of Camelford amid the changing monarchy and was able to hold his title without pushback.
That is, of course, until his expansionist tendencies overreached into the Bay of Padstow which was ruled by another Lord. This was Lord Ryons. This created the first point of tension and siege on Leodegrans lands along the river. The Bay held higher importance because of its access to the sea as well as the only seaside access to Tintagel Castle, making it not only a main provider in way of trade, but also another line of defense as Tintagel Castle, ruled by Duke Gorlois of the Duchy of Cornwall ( a duchy that expanded throughout Dunmonia primarily consisting of Tintagel Castle, Dimilioc Castle farther south, and Dinas Castle in the bottom most tip of the Isle, havng said to be the remains of the country of Lyonesse).
It was the Duke who settled the fighting, issuing the Bay back to Ryons and further auditing the upstart Lord, catching Camelford and the surrounding river lands for tax evasion.
It was because of this encounter that Leodegrans familiarized himself with the laws, making his next move airtight as he once again went back for the Bay. This time, he used the talents passed down by his father. He traded for it. It was well know the trade was more a cheat , full of deceit and setup in such as way that Leodegrans got exactly what he wanted, even the Duke had to back him on this endeavor.
When Vortigern murdered and usurped King Constans, he set to meet with all the Kings of the Isle. What would come to be known as The First Banquet of Five Kings, Vortigern slaughtered them all, becoming the first High King of Briton and entering the Isle into a state of war. it was said that in this conflict, King Felix son was also slain.
For Leodegrans, this was a prosperous time, taking land and making riches by buying and selling whatever he could, from foodstuffs, to animals, to weapons, and even people.
He stayed loyal to Duke Gorlois during this time, even gaining his trust as Constantine's remaining sons, Aurelius Ambrosius, and Uther who would form the house Pendragon, returned from exile and enlisted the Duke in their rebellion against the High King.
Leodegrans offered his services as his trade routes now ran throughout the entire Isle. He was entrusted Uther, who was too young to fight. Leodegrans would see that Uther was trained as a knight during this time, but also made sure Uther was loyal to him.
Rumors of Felix's son cropping up In Padstow also circulated in this time, and some swore Leodegrans had him drowned, but further investigation proved these inconclusive. Dumonia remained without a King throughout the war. Leodegrans does, by the end of the war if not shortly after, marry and eventually have one daughter, Camille.
The reign of King Aurelius was a short one, having been known for his radical ideas paralleling the tyrant by the ideology of a unified Isle. His brother, now formally called Uther Pendragon, would next become king following the Genocide of Dumonia and the Massacre at Dimilioc in pursuit of Igraine of Cornwall, Duke Gorlois' wife.
The fall of Tintagel and the capture of Igraine would not have been possible without access to the bay, as land access was near impossible. Leodegrans willingly gave waterway access from the bay to Uther.
Uther gifted Leodegrans Castle Tintagel and Leodegrans held his ear for a large portion of the next several years of his reign. Leodegrans sought the opportunity to take a large portion of land from the king, who was not focused enough to understand what he had given away. Merlin, who had held firm to the King's other ear, threatened intervention, but resorted to blackmail instead.
Once Leodegrans established himself, he was going to receive and assemble what would eventually become the round table. Leodegrans does ask why a table? Merlin doesn't give him a definitive answer, but notes that it will be safest if it stays with him and will grant him opportunities later. It is in this time that Leodegrans' wife dies. He becomes oddly protective of his daughter, Camille.
As Leodegrans moves into his new territory, declaring it Cameliard, and himself king, Mark of Cornwall, the younger brother of Gorlois, is rumored to be alive. it doesn't take long for The Conquest of Dumonia to turn the southern half of the Isle upside down. Mark gains ground and the favor of his people quickly, with the intent to kill Uther. It is in this time that Leodegrans plays both sides of the board and willingly gives Mark Tintagel. Mark does not trust him, and takes his daughter as collateral, sending her south to Castle Dinas to ensure he stays loyal.
(Mark is certain that this, in retrospect, was a mistake as Leodegrans made everything thrice as more difficult and prolonged the war while keeping his hands clean)
Camelford and the Bay become property of Camille's as the war ends. Camille remains a ward of the Cornish King ( this, too, is out of spite, despite the Camelford girl eventually being engaged to the King's heir Tristan.)
With Lloegyr without a King as Mark had successfully murdered him and expanded his own kingdom of Dumonia, Leodegrans retreated into his own kingdom. He focused on major cities, solidifying his rule, and establishing his Kingdom amid the hierarchy of the Isle.
it is in this time that he meets his second wife Guine within his city of Carhaix. It is said that no man loved a woman as Leodegrans loved his wife. It is also said that his affections were only misguided obsession. Whichever is the truth, Guine soon became pregnant and would give birth to twins: Guinevere and Guinevak, near perfect images of their mother.
Of Guine's birth experience, the first twin came in a timely fashion. It was said Guine laughed when she saw her and blessed her. The second child came without warning, and the birth lasted much longer than it should have, being a rather arduous endeavor. This would kill the mother. This would enter Leodegrans into a state of grief that many think he never left from.

RE: GUINEVAK-- Cameliard
Leodegrans first castle in Camelford, rests along the River Camel in Dumonia, and upon the return of Mark of Cornwall, lost his control of the surrounding area, including Tintagel Castle thirty miles north , as well as his eldest daughter Camille, who would become a ward of the upstart King.
During The Cornish War Leodegrans obtained a sizeable amount of land from Uther Pendragon (who had just taken it from another kindom some time before), and declared himself King. This severed a very important piece of Lloegyr. It was approximately one hundred miles long and surrounded by four major rivers (near modern day Birmingham.)
Its capitol is Carolhaise. This is located in the center of his Kingdom. Its built upon the intersection of the offshoots of the major rivers, which had been used as primary mode of transportation. Leodegrans had additional roads built, ensuring that all travelers went through his capitol.
Cameliard became the epicenter of trade in the country, making Leodegrans exceedingly rich ( there was no limitations on what he would and would not trade). Carolhaise is then set up with a series of three circular walls. One around the castle, one around its farmlands, and one around the city that surrounds it, though the latter two are more interconnected to promote a steady production of goods and services. The land outside the city walls consist of river ports blending into additional farmland , primarily focused on sheep and cattle. smaller villages are built near these farmlands, with the area growing more rural the farther it gets out. the idea of these rings makes a self contained community, but the many roads and riverways promote travelers and further trade. all of his daughters, both his legitimate ones (Guinevere and Guinevak) and his bastards ( the remaining 8 - 9) live here and are fiercely guarded and used at his whims.
at two opposite rivers, covering the remaining trade routes between the north and the south lie Carhaix and Aneblayse.
Carhaix is a lesser visited castle, primarily consisting of gardens and Leodegrans discarded lovers (if they have given him children), compared to the rest of his castles, Carhaix is simple, boasting his supposed ancestral lineage( the truth of the matter is that his second wife was born and died here, whose mother was said to be a noble cornish woman and laid claim to a divine rite, having been descended from the Giants in Lyonesse). The castle is as revered as it is discarded, juxtaposed between Leodegrans grief and pride.
Aneblayse is the richest of this castles, and makes most of its riches from its provocative sensitivities. many of his back door or uncouth to society trading goes on here. This is also where he spends most of his time, and has found many a mistress here, as well as for other lords and kings.
NAME: Guinevak of Cameliard SPECIES: Human ORIENTATION: Heterosexual GENDER: female BIRTH DATE: September 22nd
APPEARANCE
Mushroom colored hair with copper undertones ( a faerie's ring atop her head, but none so lovely as her sister's jewel tone waves), tall and thin like a bending reed ( but not so graceful as the willow boughed nature of her sister), cool dark eyes ( pond scum compared to the trickling river of her sister)
face claim: Lily Rose Depp
RELATIONSHIPS
FAMILY: Leodegrans of Cameliard (Father); Guine of Carhaix (mother/deceased), Guinevere( Twin sister), Camille (Half sister), Nine additional paternal half sisters
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: verse dependent
CHILDREN: verse dependent
NEED TO KNOWS
Guinevak is the younger of the sisters, having been a hard birth on her mother and coming out into the world backwards. They say Guinevak's shoulders got stuck on her mother's pelvis and that's what killed Leodegran's wife. He'll never let Guinevak forget this having names the twins after their mother: Guinevere (Guine the greater) and Guinevak ( Guine the lesser)
Guinevak was raised as her sister's double, and no one save a very select few people can tell them apart. Guinevak will get into trouble if anyone in the castle can. She's been raised with the mindset that Guinevere is not only to inherit everything of their fathers, but that she needs better protection as Leodegrans has made it clear he only will concede his favorite daughter to someone he thinks is worthy of her. Guinevak's main role is to stand in for her sister whenever their father calls for it.
her relationship with her sister is complicated, but she's fiercely protective of her sister, even though they come to hate each other. Guinevak is Catholic and the notion of twins was considered an act of dividing a soul. Given how Guinevere is revered, Guinevak believes her sister has their soul.

PERSONALITY

NEED TO KNOWS
He has a scar on his right shoulder where his shoulder meets his neck. its very faded now, but in trying to prevent her baby from being taken from her, Morgause bit him as he was torn from her and she was restrained. She did this with the intention that if he was going to be killed anyway, it should be by her hands as a mercy instead of amid what would be known as the Mayday Massacre. This injury was how he was identified amid the wreckage on the shores of Tintagel.
He was raised in Tintagel after the Mayday Massacre and was under the protection of King Mark. He was raised largely by his Grandmother Igraine. He loves his Uncle and his Grandmother. He is unable to go back to Orkney until he's about 7 and this is largely for his own safety. He sees his mom 2 to 3 times a year and she usually brings Agravain or one of his other brother's with her. He looks forward to seeing the rest of his family
He learned to be a fisherman amid his other learned studies. he likes the water.
He's very close with Tristan as he came along whenever Mark came to visit Igraine.
He is under the impression that he's Lot's son, but has a bit of a strained relationship with him. he is constantly trying to impress him.
Gawaine is the first Orkney brother to be a hostage/foster in Arthur's court. Medrod is the second because Gawaine has no blood relation to Morgause despite both boys having the last name Mac Morgause. This is to strengthen ties to the throne.
He met Guinevak through Galahad. He calls her Vic largely because Galahad does. Cwyllog is the daughter of Caw, King of Arecluta in southern Scotland. their marriage is largely a bridge between Briton and Prydyn(anglicanized as Pictland which is scotland)

Gorlois is the youngest ever Duke of Cornwall, having inherited this position upon his father's death shortly before the start of the Vortigern Wars.
His house has always been looked upon favorably through the generations and during his ascension to dukedom only solidified that further by making another alliance with the Kingdom of Garlot. Gorlois would have preferred to foster the boy, but opted for Elaine's fostering in Garlot as a means to protect her, as Cornwall was an active battleground. He meant to do the same for his eldest Morgen, and his youngest, Morgause, but did not find suitable matches for them before his death.
Gorlois and Igraine are very well suited and love each other very much. They have their daughters relatively back to back and because of the age gap between Gorlois, Mark and Blancheflor, its often perceived that they are his children rather than his siblings.
Gorlois as multiple titles: Duke of Cornwall, Gorlois the Good, Gorlois the Strong, and The Mountain of Cornwall.
He's a girl-dad.
