Finally something they could agree on. Bruce was one of the hardest people in the city, no, the world to get along with. Jason hummed in response, nodding his head in agreement. âThatâs an understatement. Stopping when he heard Bruce call for him to wait, he turned his head to look over his shoulder at the billionaire. It wasnât the first time that he had tried to stop him but something felt different about this time. He couldnât put his finger on it but something pulled him to hear the other man out for the first time. âYouâve got that right.â Jason replied. Bruce was the last person he would want to see or talk to because every time he saw him all he felt was betrayal, like despite all the words his former father figure said meant nothing because they were all bullshit. âDonât you have other kids to look after? Iâm fine.â
.
there was a part of bruce that wished alfred was here for this conversation, the old man knew bruce better than he knew himself and would help keep him on track, but this was something that bruce had to do on his own... it was his mistake that he needed to atone for. âmmm, but the one in front of me is who iâm most concerned about.â he said âno matter how much they may hate me.â

Marâi smiled and nodded. She was used to hearingthat. Since she was a kid everyone said she was the light of the family.Unintentionally of course, they put it into her mind that the happiness of thefamily depended on her. After her mother died, she decided she would never be theone to stress out her father, her family. She sculpted herself to be theperfect daughter, niece, granddaughter. No mistakes. Be Humble. Be a strongfighter. Donât break, donât crumble. Make your familyfeel needed. And above all smile. Must be perfectly perfect. Thatwas how she lived her life, enforced by only herself. âThank you, GR-Bruce. Isthere anything I can help you with?â
.
bruce studied her, part of him thinking heâd said the wrong thing. he couldnât know everything that the girl had been through and he had a feeling that sheâd been hearing that phrase more than she should have. âon the other hand, the dark can be peaceful and soothing when the light is too harsh.â he was trying to get better at the whole father thing, and he still had a ways to go, so bruce hoped he wasnât royally fucking this all up. âhmmm... what do you know about baking? alfred is out and weâre out of his cookies. iâve got the recipe but i could use a hand to make sure i donât burn the kitchen down.â did he have a few meetings today? yes, but now the ontly thing on his schedule was mar'i.

âHe doesnât know how to not be a butler.â A shiver ran down Jasonâs spine when Bruce said his name. A mix of anger and sadness fell over him. He had always been conflicted in his feelings towards the man who had made him who he was. In the beginning it had been anger, red, hot rage that consumed him every time he saw the Billionaireâs face, but it had changed over the years. Alfred had helped him see it a different away but as much as he tried the resentment was ingrained in who he was. The Joker had made sure that Jason would remember exactly the person who could save him and didnât. Things just werenât as simple as that though. He had accepted a long time ego, despite his conditioning that it wasnât Bruceâs fault that Jason died. It was, however, his fault that when Jay crawled his way out of his grave that the Joker was still alive. That was something he could have done. âWhatever you say, Old Man.â Turning around he picked up a few more things before walking towards the exit. âIâm taking all the cookies.âÂ
.
âvery true.â bruce chuckled âiâm beyond lucky that he chooses to stay with me, i know iâm not the easiest person to get along with.â bruce was a little surprised that jason was still here, that he hadnât left once he realised that it was just bruce here, but the billionaire was grateful that he was. âwait...â bruce stood, nervousness settling in his stomach âi know iâm probably the last person you want to see or talk to but if you need anything, anything at all, iâll do everything i can to help you.â he shoved his hands in his pockets, fists clenched to keep his nerve âiâm sorry for failing you jason.â
[Â fromregrets ]
.
Jason was pleased when Bruce moved away, giving him space. He was much like an animal when cornered, ready to say or do anything to get out. âDoes he take nights off?â He asked, a little surprised that the butler would take time off. What did butlers do when they werenât being butlers? âThatâs where Iâm headed next then.â He told Bruce, expecting the man to leave him alone after that. When he didnât walk away immediately, Jason sighed and turned to face him. âWhat? Iâll be out of your hair soon.âÂ
.
he nodded âi try to give him at least two days a week but doesnât always work out that way.â bruce knew that the man more of a father really deserved better and he was doing everything in his power to give alfred the best he could, hell he made more than some of the board members at wayne enterprises, but he could always do more for alfred. âjasonâŚâ bruce sighed lightly âyou could never be in my hair. youâre always welcome here.â
[Â fromregrets ]
âWhatâs the fun in that?â Jason asked, hearing Bruceâs voice come from the shadows. It had been a while since the pair had seen each other in person. That was Jasonâs choice. He held a lot of resentment towards the man he once considered an adoptive father. âWhereâs Alfred? He usually brings me cookies.â Jay said, letting the older man know that he was disappointed that it was him and not the butler.Â
.
bruce chuckled âtrue.â he moved into the room, sitting at one of the tables so he could still give jason his space. there was a lot that bruce wanted to say to him, but it wasnât up to bruce. heâd decided that he wasnât going to force jason into a conversation or make him listen to bruce apologise for his failings, forcing it wouldnât do anything. âmade him take the night off. there should be some cookies in the kitchen though.â
[ closed starter /// @fromregrets ]
it was alfredâs night off so when the batcaveâs silent alarm was tripped, bruce had to quickly don his cowl and see who was sticking their nose where it shouldnât be... before one of damienâs animals got to them of course. it didnât take him long to find them, a soft sigh escaping him once he saw who it was âyou know, you could just use your code instead of breaking in.â bruce pulled the cowl off, leaning against the wall as he looked at jason
[ âNo, itâs more than that. You take care of people.â /// @barbaraxxgordons ]
âi try to at the very least.â bruce sighed lightly, taking a long sip from his mug. for so many years heâd been more focused on saving gotham than his family. these kids relied on him and bruce had failed them all... they deserved better from him.
[ âI guess Iâm a glutton for punishment.â /// @oftalon ]
bruce smirked, slightly confused but still amused at the situation âare you wanting me to somehow be involved in that?â he quirked a brow before taking a sip of his drink âitâs not the first time iâve been asked but iâm a family man these days so youâll need to look elsewhere.â

bruce hummed, nodding his head in agreement at what damien said âwe should probably keep an eye out to be sure.â from his spot in the shadows, he surveyed the scene âwhat do you think?â

bruce looked down at the girl, chuckling softly âif things are too dark just add some light.â he slid his hands into his pockets while smiling at her âdarkness is just the absence of light after all.â
Midnight Mass Starters !
Taken from the 2021 Netflix series, Midnight Mass! Some of these have already been edited. You can change them however you see fit! Keep in mind that some spoilers for the show will be present!
âAre they okay? Theyâre gonna be okay?â
âWhile youâre at it, ask him why He always takes the kids, while the drunk fucks always walk away with scratches.â
âOh, their lips to Godâs ears. No. Theyâre lips to my ass.â
âIâm good. Iâd actually prefer not to smell like cat shit.â
âYou know, sometimes thereâs a storm, and it floods, and those bodies just pop up right out of the ground. Cat food.â
âIâm surprised that youâre surprised. I figured this is where you wanted to be. You were trying to break in, after all.â
âThis isnât a community anymore, honey. Itâs a ghost.â
âCome on, no one can fool the altar boys.â
âNo, uh, I think that youâre the prodigal one. Iâm just the black sheep.â
âLook at us, back where we started. The one place that we swore weâd never end up.â
âSo, I mean, you came back⌠Here. You came back here on purpose. Why?â
âRide out the storm tonight, and then tomorrow, youâll see what tomorrow is all about. Find another project.â
âWell, thatâs the thing about where weâve been. Itâs important, sure. But itâs not as important as where weâre going.â
âEvery place before where I am now, well, they were just leading me here even if I didnât know it at the time. Even if I didnât see it.â
âAre you really walking by without saying hi?â
âThis darkness. This blackness that spilled into us.â
âEven out of the blackness, love will rise again.â
âI donât want to hold up the townâs pariah.â
âShit I did, I donât care about me so much either. But what did he ever do? What did he ever do to you?â
âMy friend here is just leaving, and they mean no harm. Not theyâre fault that they were born woefully fucking unfunny.â
âYou ever hear of RR? AA for pirates.â
âSee, Iâm a pretty rational person, and you know that all our myths, our religions, come from natural occurrences that we canât explain.â
âNo, itâs more than that. You take care of people.â
âYou stole from me things I didnât even have yet. You reached through time, (Name)! You reached through time and stole!â
âIf I can forgive you, (Name), then anyone can.â
âItâs like this particular brand of self-righteousness that is exclusive to a certain breed of religion.â
âBut just now⌠Itâs like I woke up, and there you are.â
âTold you theyâd catch on. Weâre a trio now.â
âBut then being in there with you, and (Name), and talking like that, talking under those circumstances where I feel like⌠maybe my life might be worth it.â
âIt felt too easy to leave. Like, I shouldnât just leave.â
âI guess Iâm a glutton for punishment.â
âI knew all the while that Iâd have to lie to the very people that Iâm here to save.â
âAll three of us, we, um, we were a little scared shitless.â
âI already had resentment in my heart, and I shouldnât have.â
âBut children just donât do what you did on their own, not unless one of their parents has failed them something awful. And youâre motherâs a saint, so I guess that just leaves me.â
âItâs a special kind of self-pity to identify with the destruction of Jerusalem.â
âEveryone gets their wings clipped at some point.â
âI think we all want, so badly, for there to be a reason. For everything. And some justice, and some comfort when we die.â
âThatâs what we mean when we say heaven. No mansions, no rivers of diamonds or fluffy clouds and angel wings. You are loved. And you arenât alone.â
âGive yourself over, while you understand it or not.â
âWell, at least they didnât call them Bong.â
âWhen something like this happens, we are all supposed to be the same.â
âHe seemed fine. But thatâs what they say. People who arenât okay.â
âJust wondering who the hell lit those campfires in the sky.â
âYou were aware of yourself, but you acted involuntarily.â
âI worry. I worry about that one. Theyâre hardly the reliable sort.â
âYou brought me out here, where there is nowhere for me to go, to do what exactly?â
âSee, I canât believe youâd want to scare me. I donât believe that.â
âIâm not as strong as you. I never was.â
âIâll show them, they donât have to be afraid of us. Iâll show them who we are.â
âWhat I know is that (Name) sacrificed everything. Everything. Because they thought I could help.â
âIt never made sense to me. We say thereâs a heaven and that itâs waiting for us. Then we claw, fight and beg for a few more minutes at the end.â
âWe made our choices. We lived our lives.â
âIs that what Iâll become? Just an animal who canât resist?â
âI suppose virtue isnât a virtue if it doesnât cost you anything.â
âI am so proud of you, and I just wish that we had gotten to know each other.â
âI donât know, but I think that I killed my mom.â
