She crossed her arms, swallowing hard against a lump that had appeared in her throat when he finally turned to confront her. “I don’t think I got to make much of anything clear, actually.” When she had left school, she didn’t even have that much of a plan, and then her mother had put her through legal hell to try and get to the money her father had left her. “I didn’t even know how long I was going to be gone for, and by the time I got everything sorted out–“ Her words abruptly stopped, because by the time she had everything settled, she thought he wouldn’t want anything to do with her. She sighed, looking away. “Look, I know I shouldn’t have done what I did.”
tearing his gaze from her, colton shook his head. having her right here in front of him made it harder for him to stay upset. ❝ you took off without a word, astrid. the implications of something like that usually mean one thing, ❞ he argued. more than anything he’d been hurt and worried by her sudden disappearance. it wasn’t like he could question her whereabouts around the university, students dropped courses and sometimes schools altogether, it wasn’t unusual. his head tilted as he glanced back at her. ❝ you what ?? figured i’d just kick you to the curb ?? ❞ if she believed something like that of him he must’ve done something wrong somewhere along the line. colton wanted to reach for her and make her look at him when she looked away yet refrained himself. he may have been a lot of things but he wasn’t an unreasonable man. ❝ i’m sure you had your reasons but you could’ve said something. ❞
