you and i were always supposed to meet, because if this is just a mistake in the fabric of time….
…that would just suck.
@ofdissections should honestly just prepare for so many starters in this verse
With a huff, Leo sat down at the small table in their kitchen and dropped the opened letter in the middle of it, letting himself frown. There wasn’t any point in hiding it, anyway, not when she would be able to sense his displeasure from miles away. “Is it possible to disown a parent? Because if I get one more letter about an ancient treasure somewhere on the other side of the world, I’m going to be considering it.”
Jemma moved to pick up the letter, skimming through it with a soft laugh. “Leo, you threaten to disown your father at least once a month. You never will.” She set the paper back down, looking back up at him with a gentle smile. “Just tell him you’re busy.”
@ofdissections liked [ x ] for a starter and she gets another because awake muse!
“I have three very good reasons to not like being here – ONE. it’s sandy, and bright, and both of these things hurt my eyes. TWO. this is exactly the kind of place a mummy would attack first after being brought back to life. THREE. it’s hot.”
“Leo, you’re being silly. We’re here on SHIELD’s behalf. I doubt a mummy is going to attack us right now, given we’re far away from any unearthed ones. And yes, it’s hot. Shocking. It’s a desert climate.”

In all the centuries he’d been stuck on that planet, Leonius had yet to see anyone survive long enough to get off of it – sometimes, that was his fault. Actually, MOST OF THE TIME, that was his fault. It was a rare occasion that someone simply survived long enough to die of some other cause. The way things were, he got bored far too easily, and he needed a new body every few decades, so that was how things went. He used one for a little while, and then changed when the next useful one came along. The system was strange, and there was a part of him, the small piece of him that was still human, that said it was wrong, but he’d been alone for far too long to care about things like that anymore. He was immortal, and he had his way of doing things, and that would continue until the first condition changed.
The woman was outside, and with how close he’d been staying to their dwelling, he knew within seconds. He didn’t want to use her – it wasn’t that he’d never used a female vessel before, but he wouldn’t be the cause of her death just for the sake of a change. They always seemed to scream the loudest, to be in the most pain, and there were too many, too clear memories of the first time his ability had hurt someone he cared about. There was no way he wanted to relive the reason he would never see his wife again, the reason he had been punished with exile in the first place. No, he wanted the man. The human race had evolved in strange ways, and the men seemed to be just as frightened as the women, but far more intent on not showing it. That was good, that meant there was less guilt involved.
Leonius just had to make sure he could lure her partner out, and to do that, he would need HER. He stalked closer, staying out of her line of sight as much as possible – she wasn’t going to be prey, just bait, and if she ran, that plan might have to change.
Myrcella rubbed calloused hands over her bare arms- she’d long ago ripped the sleeves off to use as bandages or a mask to protect her face from the sand that seemed to be everywhere. (If she lived long enough to get off this planet, she never wanted to see sand again. It was coarse and irritating and it got everywhere.) Her eyes scanned over the horizon quietly. With luck, this would be the last time she’d have to stare at it.
The woman got to her feet, brushing what she could off her pants. It was nearly time to wake Will up, nearly time to pack and leave the cave that had been her home for weeks now. Her eyes closed in remembrance of her husband, her dear Leonius.
“I’m sorry, my love,” she whispered quietly to the air, hoping for all she was worth that, wherever he was, he would know. “I’m so sorry it ended this way. I’m sorry that I did what I did, that I chose the path I did. But I was so scared... You terrified me, I’ll admit it. But you didn’t deserve to die this way, Leonius. Alone. And I’m sorry that you did.”
Myrcella turned back, ready to face the day with Will by her side.
quietandpasty:
He didn’t know what to do, taking a shaky breath and making himself take at least three steps back. This was his fault, Leonius knew that much after only a few moments of thought, and he wanted to run and hide before he could hurt anyone else, but he couldn’t do that without cleaning up the mess he’d already made. “Help… I’ll go get help…”
Instinctively, Myrcella already knew-- it was too late. There had been too much blood, too much pain. “Too late....” she mumbled, starting to lose her grip on reality. “Too late... they’re gone... I know they’re gone.... but they were just here?”
quietandpasty:
Pulling his arm back again when she flinched, Leonius frowned and waited for her to finish speaking before letting his gaze shift away from her. He should have known better than to get too close, but he hadn’t been thinking, and the fact that he could be so close to her had overwhelmed his judgment. “I was just ASKING. I don’t know if it’s the same for you.”
“I’m not helpless, Leonius, despite my ailment,” she replied sharply, trying very hard to not look offended and failing. “I can still be rather productive, shockingly. I’ve helped SHIELD make a few advances with some of their work.”
quietandpasty:
Letting out a slow breath, Leonius made himself put his arms around her so that he could at least keep her from getting hurt. Whatever was happening, he had no idea what to do next, but leaving her alone certainly wasn’t an option. He kept his voice low, all but whispering while he shifted so that he could sit down before pulling her into his lap. “That’s better, isn’t it…?”
Myrcella seemed to relax even more against the man as she was maneuvered into his lap, the stress melting away from her face. For once, she was at peace, calm- there were no episodes to worry about, no sick people to heal. It was just rest.
quietandpasty:
“It’s not that, Jemma!” He let out a huff, shaking his head again with an obvious frown, staring at her. “I never told you because I know that telling people causes problems. You are my best friend, and I want to keep things that way.”
“I simply just thought....” She closed her eyes, squeezing them shut in an attempt to calm down. “I thought you knew me better than that, Leo. I don’t give a damn about how much you’re worth. You- you were my best friend. I loved you because you were you, not because you had money.”

work is high key already kicking my ass two days into training and I have to be at work early as FUCK tomorrow but I do promise I’ll be around somewhat on Wednesday and Thursday.
highkey wiped from orientation. Probably won't be here till Monday.
I SEND MY BEST REGARDS F R O M H E L L.
swear I'll be on tomorrow. I'm honestly still shaky from driving on the freeway for the first time so I want to relax.
“Well, with HYDRA running around, I don’t expect to last long. They already succeeded once in killing me.” Jemma shook her head. “It wasn’t right, Grant.”
“I don’t care if it wasn’t right,” he answered simply. “Just because something isn’t right doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t do it. What if it had been me that had died? Wouldn’t you want to save me?”
"I would've let you rest." She looked at him sternly for a moment. "Skye was a different story. She was still alive when we gave her the GH formula. That wasn't bringing her back, it was healing her. I was dead, Grant. Dead things should stay dead."
“She’s half me and half you. Of course she’s amazing.” Jemma held Laura closer, staring out the window. “How much farther?”
Grant nodded. “We’re about an hour away from the base, and once we’re there I can get you in and to a room.”
"Okay. I don't know if I'm feeling up to everyone's attentions yet," Jemma admitted quietly, shaking her head. "They'll all throw a fit over me and I don't want them making Laura uncomfortable."
