“Yeah” he chuckles at the idea and part of the memory that led to it happening “If you ask Dean, he’ll probably tell you how proud he is of that. It’s kind of a highlight for him. We ended up on the FBI most wanted list, somehow, all while being chased by Lilith and all her demons. We were arrested and all her demons attacked at once, so the FBI agent got to see what we were dealing with and got us off the hook. Me and Dean are ‘dead’ on the records, thanks to him. Henriksen was a good guy.” Sam gives her the summarised version, of course, doesn’t mention for now how hard it was to fight all those demons or how things turned in the end, but it serves as a distraction to keep her mind off of what just happened and all the pain she might be in.
“I’m still a terrible cook. Don’t be fooled by my healthy habits of salads and smoothies, it’s all because I can eat everything raw that way,” he jokes while using the cuff of his flannel shirt to gently wipe off the smudges of blood she got on her cheeks all the while making sure she doesn’t move too much or too hastily. He’d rather be the one in her position and she can probably tell from the way he looks at her, with both adoration and concern.
“Of course I will.” If he’s being honest, he’s glad she asked because he was wondering how to ask to stay and look after her like he wants to. He has a knack for looking and sounding too worried all the time and being overprotective. “In fact, I’m glad I won’t have to stay outside huddled somewhere, watching your window like a creep.” He says, not very embarrassed of his confession. He sets aside the kit because he’ll still need a few things from there after and kneels next to Jess. “Put your arm around my neck. I’ll carry you to the bathroom.”
“That’s completely insane. -- Really sucks, how much you’ve had to live through.” She replied, sympathetically. She had no idea who Lilith was, but a hoard of demons didn’t sound inviting. She hadn’t been able to escape one, after all. “Can’t imagine how dumb you thought I was, afraid of the demons in exorcism movies.” True demons were a lot more functional and dastardly than the ones she had once been terrified of in horror movies that she used to love to watch, with friends, rather than Sam of course. Her mind was quickly distracted, however, wondering what people that knew her and Sam thought about him popping up on the FBI most wanted list. It made her want to check on her family closer than she had let herself for a few brief hours back when she had first escaped the demons.
“Maybe I’ll have to find time to cook for you sometime. Something simple, but mostly healthy. I remember how amazed you were by the taste of a nearly bland homecooked meal.” She had always assumed that it was because he hadn’t had a mother and moved around a lot with his father... but a bit of hunting showed her how easy it was to just grab something quick and greasy at the end of the night.
Chuckling at his admission, she rested her hand on his shoulder for a brief, fleeting moment. “You’re always welcome to... keep me company instead of hiding in the bushes outside.” An arched brow as he knelt beside her, she looked down at him with a puzzled look in her eyes. “You don’t... have to do that. Stomach puncture... I should be able to walk, right?” Being close to him really set her nerves into overdrive, which was something that she wasn’t used to. Even when she was trying to pursue him when they were first introduced, she’d hardly been nervous around him.
