twice-as-bright-as-canopus:
“That’s because my ridiculous hijinks are ingenious.” Sirius claimed proudly. Emmeline was without a question one of the better people at Hogwarts, if not even one of his favourites. Less stuck-up than most others, more willing to enjoy his antics than be annoyed by them. Something that seemed to be rare these days. Sirius pushed that thought far away in favour o concentrating on the girl before him. “Yes, that sounds better, I can live with that. If I’m lucky my punishment will be cleaning mirrors. And we should I’d like very much to see him write that down on a detention slip.”
Emme laughed, “that may be true, but we both know the administration sees them as a nuisance. If only you were able to turn your hijinks into extra credit,” which, gave her an idea. Though, it was probably impossible she really did wonder why they weren’t considered smart -- though then she realized that they did have a HISTORY of hurting others. Even on accident. But didn’t everyone? Second, third, fourth chances, Emmeline believed, were important to give because people changed even when you were sure they wouldn’t. The pranks in the last year had become more evolved. “You know he’d write it down in a heartbeat, he’d probably write something a little more ridiculous on it too, and make you kiss the mirror as a stamp of Sirius approval after cleaning them.”
