Emil’s head tipped to the side. The other’s pauses, the looking, as-if he’d done something wrong. He continued his smile, warm and awaiting the comments he would ( undoubtably ) receive. A noncommittal ‘ yes ’ or an ‘ i’ll try ’ and then push him away, waiting for the next time. However, what he got in it’s stead was something … unexpected.
A feeling of melancholy was what he felt. The warmth in reception which had not been had in so-long. His smile turned much more bitter sweet, yet he simply waited. The thought of asking for something … well, to be honest. His smile brightened once more. Turning back the tides to how it had been before. His hand catching the back of his head, a fine blush going to cross pale cheeks.
Oh, how to say such a thing without sounding strange.
“Actually, I can think of one thing I want … “
It wasn’t all that big a something, yet, as he drifted off into his silence, he glanced away. The one thing he would want in return for a gift? Well … it’s quite simple, really. His eyes return, his pause having satisfied whatever necessary need for it he had wanted. His fingers moved, hand sliding from his hair, to right in front of him.
“I’d want your name … if, you w-wouldn’t mind?”
Soft laugh, his head tipped to the side. “You did say that you could help if I wanted something, right? Mine’s Emil – if it m-makes it any easier.”
After all, what else could he wish for? He who outlived humans and half-elves alike, only accompanied by the many years by those who shared his eternal state of existence.
Why was it so strange to him that this other was being so kind. He wanted to turn and hide within the rocks that the heavens had DAMNED HIM TO and yet made him stronger. Emotions now were just a muddled mess, as he was not supposed to feel anything but the sins of a mortal being or completely blank.
It had then come to the other raising his voice, nerves ( if he had any ) were shot as muscles tensed. The quick glance away and back made him suddenly regret such a deed before things came to a steep sigh of relief when it was just a name to be given.
“My name is all you want? I have not had that asked in quite a long time, you see. Many come to me for their sins to be washed away… “ A pause, realization of what he was saying before he closed his eyes, pulling the glasses away from his face. “My name, is Horus, though others know me as Lord Satan, the angel who fell from heaven.”
Not the best introduction but it was something, correct? Anything was better than nothing and it was truth that the other, the spirit, had only wanted a name. For he had watched mortals ask for sins to be washed away by gods, and had been asked to bring destruction upon the world and here he was TERRIFIED of an old spirt that just wanted his name and gave him cookies.
“Dear me... The arch would be getting a kick out of how spooked I have become. I must have turned to be so cold as the rocks to remember such feelings.”
“There’s really nobody else here.” Emil's fingers wrapped tightly around Saino's, giving a weak smile.
Her heart was racing and she couldn’t handle it at the moment. Breaths were hard to come by as a hand went to grasp tight against the cloth on her chest. Everything around here seemed big-- threatening -- and here she was, curled up, tears rolling as she couldn’t shake the feeling.
The panic attack had settled in before she could stop it, the words that escaped the other barely heard as she gasped for air and hid her head within her knees as she violently shook from the fear. This was normal -- a simple morning for her, the dream before she had awoke being nothing too bad and yet her body couldn’t rid the feeling that...
“A-are you sure...?” Words were coughed out as she tried to steady herself, stomach twisting as she rose her head slightly, Just a glance, and then it was back down to her knees, whimpering in fear, patches of black scales beginning to form against cool skin. “I-I felt something.... T-th-there could be someone else here w-w-without us knowing...!”
Her instincts were on overtime trying to figure out exactly what she meant but nothing could be found. Chest tight, she coughed and gritted teeth together, a hand slowly reaching for the other’s shirt for comfort as she pulled him only closer to her already curled up form. “I-I don’t want to go back t-to that hell again... p-please...”
“Wake up! Wake up! It’s just a dream!”
There was a scream that echoed the tavern’s walls, fingers curled against the pillow, eyes shut so tight and locked within a nightmare. Her whole body shuttered, shivering but also sweating as blankets were tossed off her form and whimpers escaped. Within the haze she had no clue what was real or fake, everything hurt and having to be still as her foster brother came closer before...
Bitting back another scream, her body jerked but stayed paralyzed within slumber. Tossing, turning as anxieties and fears all came to truth before her mind, muscles tensed as words were coughed up. ‘ ge -- way ‘ repeated a thousand times over as a hand reached to shake her awake.
Words snapped at her head and blue eyes were suddenly wide, her body naturally grabbing the gun under her pillow in her shaken state. Everything was blurry, digit so close to the trigger as she waited for an attack to blast them away. That never came though, vision growing clear as the pistol was plopped into her lap, tears rolling down her face as all she could say was ...
“I’m sorry. . . “

“Wake up! Wake up! It’s just a dream!” “What were you dreaming about…? You were shouting…” “I woke up because you were screaming so loudly.” “Shh– No, no, don’t panic, love. You’re safe now.” “It was so real! I swear! He/she was here!” “I don’t ever want to sleep again. What if– what if I dream about that again?” “If you tell me, it’ll go away. That’s what my mum/dad always told me and it’s never failed me.” “Do you want to go back to sleep, or shall I make you a cup of tea?” “I don’t want to go back to sleep…” “I’m so scared… I can’t stop seeing what I just saw. It was so vivid!” “There’s really nobody here, okay? Do you need me to show you around to prove that to you?” “How do I know I’m not still dreaming? You’re acting really strangely.” “Let’s get you to the shower, you’re covered in sweat.” “There’s really nobody else here.” “You’ve got a really bad fever. That must have caused those weird dreams.” “I don’t even know what a peaceful night’s sleep is like anymore.” “I can’t do this anymore. These nightmares have to stop…” “Shh, it was just a bad dream. Just a dream, okay? None of it was real.” “I can’t go back to sleep after that. I need coffee– no, I need a drink, a stiff one.” “How long have you been having these nightmares?” “I’ve had nightmares all my life, but they’ve been really bad recently.” “You get so worked up before you go to sleep, maybe you should try to relax a bit more. Maybe then you’ll get some rest?” “I’d kill for a peaceful night’s sleep.” “A dream catcher? Honestly? I’m not a child.” “Nothing’s ever helped this. I just need to learn to live with the fact that sleeping will always be a nightmare, literally.” “I’m so tired… but there’s no way I’m going back to sleep after that.”
[ CASEY ]
Wait, what was she– Casey’s senses honed in on the crimson droplets as they slid from Aki’s hand into the bottle. Conflict raged as she forced herself into total stillness- gods above she wanted that blood, but it was Aki’s, the princess, blood beyond her touch. She had no right to take that from her. Certainly the warrior ought not to have forced the princess like this. ( She knew? Information belatedly cleared her mind and was promptly discarded. ) But she stilled her body as much as she could. She needed the moments it afforded to drag her muscles under her control. Everything about her wanted that blood, wanted the sustenance its aroma promised, but she both feared Aki’s aim and did not trust herself to reach only for the bottle.
After several moments ( heartbeats ) she moved very slowly for the bottle. Even by mortal standards, she was being deliberate and slow. Not only was this to show that she did not mean harm, it was to ensure that she could not cause harm on accident. She did not wish to lose control and take a final bite out of the princess before her own demise was sure to occur. She had little doubt in her lady’s aim.
Trembling fingers clasped the bottle before pulling away equally slowly. As soon as she was far enough away to trust herself, she downed the foul liquid. Even if Aki’s blood was sweet, far more refreshing than any animal’s, she felt disgusted. Both principle and duty caused her gut to roil. The act of drinking blood simply reminded her just what sort of monster she was now, and the idea that she had driven her friend to such lengths made her heart ache. As she set the bottle down, shame was evident in her face. Her appetite sated, she now trusted her actions.
“Thank you,” she said, gaze averted. “Let me see to your hand… And then I suppose we should talk about this.” She turned to grab some cloth and water to wash the wound. Even if it was not deep, she did not want further harm to come. So long as she could look anywhere but Aki’s eyes, Casey was content at the moment. Well, perhaps not content- she had many stern words for the princess. But the wound came first.
She did not waste the time she had -- the droplets of blood only getting half the bottle full by the time the other had pulled it away, but it was at least something. The ex - princess sighed softly, mostly in relief, as the other had drank what she had offered. Mind shifting back to the red oozing from her hand even if it had only been a small incision. All the same, she was prepared to grab the gun and aim, FIRE , if she needed to.
“It’s only a small cut, I am perfectly capable of taking care of it.” She murmured, voice lowering as she couldn’t budge with the other approaching. A moment passed before she gave up, lifting the hand, wiping the blade against the grass. “I know you are upset at me but realize that I only did it because I would rather it be me than an innocent bi - standard. If you dare to bring up my health problems just remember that I don’t care -- all I care about is making sure you and may of the others are safe. My life doesn’t matter at the moment.”
Was that how a ruler was supposed to speak, giving their life to the people? The blond flinched, looking straight towards the other. She didn’t care that she might have just put herself in so much danger, she had faced a han junketsu when they had been consumed by the demon within, a vampire murdering her was nothing but a CAKE WALK.
let alone the pain that she had to endure of her father’s and foster brother’s doing.
“I will make sure to take care of myself but, you know that I have done worse things. I would rather be doing this for a reason than just to allow my depressions to indulge. So choose your words wisely Casey, for we don’t have long until we need to get you to shelter.”
“Feed the poor vampire --?”

“You believe your teeth are enough to scare me away?” The princess huffed, shoulders rolled back as she simply stared at the other. “You realize that I have been surrounded by death, used in experiments and have friends that are dragons. A few fangs and speed is not going to scare me.”
And with that moment, she pulled out a knife. Blue optics without fear for the other. “I covered for you, after all. I knew what you were long ago -- your thirst for blood must be killing you.” It took moments, but with grabbing the small bottle that she had and pressing the knife against her skin, blood begun to drip into the container. She knew it was risky, her pistol of light just a moments reach away ( would that be too late ? ) and her eyes directly on the vampire friend. She would be prepared to kill, but also was waiting simply to give the other the bottle of blood. “Just control yourself for moments more. If you can’t. Aim for the bottle or I will shoot you.”

Casey rose at the princess– rebel’s bidding. It was hard to imagine not showing the respect and reverence she held for the once-noblewoman, but she was right- they were the same out here. They were both fugitives. They were both rebels. Teaching herself to understand those facts would take some time, but Casey swore to herself to do her best to learn it. It would make this whole experience easier on all parties involved.
Fingers trembled just only slightly as she held her hands by her side. While she would never admit it, Aki was quite right. Casey had been rushed in her own escape; overall, she was wholly unprepared for time spent afield. Exhaustion and hunger had served as a constant lately. Gratitude shone in amber gaze at the offer the former Princess extended. Casey was glad to nod and step forward, hand rising slowly ( shaking slightly as well, an indicator of her own state ) to brush against Aki’s own.
“No, they did not treat me well out here. It’s been a rough journey from the castle. A bit of food and some proper shelter would be greatly appreciated, truthfully.” She hesitated, trying to force her tongue to move around the foreign sounding words that would come next. It was difficult to even contemplate the idea. “Thank you, P– Aki.” It would certainly take time to get used to this.
Every movement was watched and analyzed. She knew only how to do that by listening to herself and, some people within the rebel town. Never would she have known such signs before, but, she did not know what all of them had meant. Must of them were shrugged off or side glanced, her smile still attempting to stay on her lips. For now, she had to be the one whom was strong ( but hadn’t she always been with how her father and adopted brother treated her ).
A hand rose to meet the other’s, holding it in a tightened grasp for reassurance. “Then I am sure the men and women of Jiyū will take you in as they have me. Be warned though that they do not like of what we were in the past but most, will see passed our stories that we had buried.” She begun to lead them back, though no path was there to take. It all was memorized while a little han junketsu had talked to her about how to react and handle the shadows that echoed and trapped confused travelers within their arms.
“I know it will take time to get use to, Casey, but I thank you for trying your hardest.” Words sincerer as she looked to the leaves above and the style of bark upon trees passed by all to tell where they were going. The sounds of the town were not too far off though, smoke from wood burning chimneys being seen in the distance as the smile that the ex - princess once had, came back. “I do have to warn you that some of the creatures that my father said were evil are harmless. the han junkestu my father threatens with the death penalty are nothing more but people too who are rather...”
The pause came as the wind shifted, a small chuckle breaking free from her lips. “Well, they are a story within itself.” She chimed as they reached the small wooden gates. Trees towered over the city, buildings of brick seeming to be placed in odd patterns that created jagged roads that were full of lively children and adults alike.
Blond hair shifted, her head raised high as she attempted to silence a cough. Pulling the other carefully, making sure not to go too fast or too slow, blue optics shinned towards some of the now familiar faces, nodding her head in reassurance towards the people that the woman at her side was safe. Yet, that didn’t stop children from running past them, nearly tripping Aki as they rose their sword - sticks, a few of them bellowing roars and shouts, saying small things like ‘ we will defeat you, cruel king of north ‘ or ‘ we are the claws and fangs of power and strength --’ .
“So, would you like a meal or rest first? I have a room at the inn which is more like the dragon home than anything but, I am sure the tavern keeper wouldn’t mind getting a meal for someone who isn’t of scales for once.”
My muse just did something stupid that almost got them killed. Yell at them.

“This can’t go on like this! You’re not eating, you’re not sleeping, you barely talk, Aki!”
“I…” Her voice was only a whisper, cracking even with the single syllable used. What was there to say? To do… She was scared to admit that she was SICK that she had once again tainted her foster father’s blade with HER OWN BLOOD. What would the other do if she knew? What would anyone do if they knew? The doctor of the village warned her, told her that cutting so deep within her thigh was not good for her, especially as she was facing a more dangerous problem…
Blood tainted by what was supposed to be a scientific achievement that now was killing her from the inside out. Her depression just pulling her hopes farther down and questioning …
“I just… don’t feel like any of it is necessary anymore.”
Voice weak, the words seeming to fade even as they were spoken, and yet the daring blue optics looked up to the other from where she laid. Gods above, if her foster father saw her now… Let alone her supposed kidnapper who SAVED HER from the worst.
Her mind was tainted though, thinking that her own pain and suffering would keep the others safe. But this, she knew was taking it too far yet no one ever understood that she was in more pain than she showed.
act like a pretty princess now DEAR wouldn’t want anyone else to get hurt WOULD YOU?
She only moved an inch, chest barely rising as breaths were taken and her weak little smile finally crashed into a frown. “I.. I am sorry but sadly this... This is not something that can be fixed s-so easily with just words, Casey.”
Oh no, this was not something that one could patch with band-aids and kisses.
“You knew.... You knew since we were at that hell that I am not s t r o n g. He-- THEY did things to me... I’m not well. I hid it for so long from a-allies but now...” There was a cough, body trembling as she lowered her head into the pillow. She could taste the crimson liquid in her mouth, not daring to speak until she gulped it away. “... I’m ill... I’ve always been. Every morning and night, I am scar-scared to eat or sleep because it hurts and because ... I am waiting for my hero to return... There’s been word that he has died -- others say he just vanished... I knew I should have gone with him...”
Fingers clutched against the blanket curled around her form. “Casey... I know this may hurt for you to hear but... I want to die.”

Just how tired are you?” “You need to think about yourself every once in a while.” “I know your work is important, but you’re going to end up in hospital if you go on like this!” “You haven’t even touched your food. What’s going on?” “You look so… empty. I’m worried for you, please talk to me.” “Are you alright in there? You’re so quiet.” “How did you get these bruises? Please don’t lie to me.” “There’s something bothering you that you’re not telling me and I can see it slowly destroying you. What happened?” “You’re sleep deprived and you haven’t been eating. Why do you think you’re feeling dizzy?” “I can give you some pills to help you sleep. They aren’t healthy, but this is even less healthy.” “If you didn’t just blink I would’ve sworn you were dead, that’s how sickly you’re looking. Go to bed, please!” “Have you drank all of these bottles in one weekend?!” “I know you don’t want this, but it’s for your own good. Sign the papers so they can pick you up tomorrow and you can get clean.” “What the hell are you doing?! Did you do that to yourself?!” “When was the last time you left the house? Or opened the curtains for that matter.” “Here, just keep breathing. It’ll be okay. Better out than in…” “This can’t go on like this! You’re not eating, you’re not sleeping, you barely talk!” “I’m sorry. I went through your room and found this. Explain what the hell this is doing in your room!” “I thought you’d quit! How long have you been lying to me?” “I’m only trying to help and right now I think I have a much better idea of what you need than you do.” “Did you take anything? Why are you passing out? Hey! Stay with me!”
