The Cult, as mentioned, isnt. Much of a cult. Starling doesnt control nor force the members of her group to follow her or be part of their ceremonies(eating dead former-members) or be the eaten.
The Cult heavily worships the life cycle, and births are a special time.
They travel regularly, rarely settling for very long. Think the sisters but kinda different ig idk, this universe has been in the works since before TBC.
The Naming system in the cult is pretty straightforward, taking after the mother’s naming theme(generally). Hence why Starling’s kits are all bird-names(notably only Puffin is a bird u wouldnt find anywhere Near a finch or a heron)
ANYWAYS, the CURRENT Cult is comprised of, at minimum, 2 member families.
Starling is the current leader, with her mate Bramble, and their three kits, Finch, Heron and Puffin. Finch and Heron are littermates, Puffin is adopted and much younger, but just like. believes it’s littermates with Finch and Heron. Puffin uses any pronouns btw. Finch and Heron entertain it’s ideas and dont really mind, both of them Adore Puffin deeply. Finch uses they/them exclusively.
Opal and Rime are a queer-platonic relationship. Opal had a fling with a stray cat and was previously a house cat that had been abandoned by her people when they moved. She met Rime before her almost-mate left her, shortly before they actually came upon the cult. Her and Rime got close quick, and neither are interested in a romantic relationship. They call each other their mate to make it simple for other cats, but neither have any romance feelings for one another. Rime would be like. the cool uncle to Opal’s kits, but would help her raise them. Rime uses he/they
Hawthorne and Magnolia are siblings. Hawthorne is Magnolia’s older brother, from an older litter. Magnolia was born paralyzed in her back legs and tail, and said limbs are bound to prevent any accidents and injuries from occurring. She has very, very little feeling in her lower half. Hawthorne is Very mean, coming from a family of strays that was basically fight to survive. Magnolia wasn’t well taken care of initially, and Hawthorne, as the oldest kit in their family, ended up taking them and just. Leaving to find something better for Both of them. They r mutually protective of each other. Magnolia uses she/they(pref She)
Hound and Sneeze are my favorites!!! Hound and Sneeze are littermates, sisters and are super close. theyre Besties despite being opposites in size and demeanor. They are also the only cats in the clan to be littermates with such different names! Theres a very good reason for that. Hound was named aptly by their(unnamed) mother. Sneeze, however, was an oopsie. Their mom couldnt think of a name to match the family names, so she just. Waited. And Sneeze has allergies, and as a kit, born in spring, it was MUCH worse. a very very sneezy kit. So she was fondly nicknamed Sneeze, and then that. Stuck. She only responded to Sneeze. So it was left. She thinks its HILARIOUS.
And then we have Slug and Snail. Notably, only Snail is named in the fic. Theres a reason. Theres also a reason why its stated that Snail has an inconsistent interest in herbs :). Anyways Slug and Snail are identical twins and when they joined the cult, Slug thought itd be funny to see how long it took for anyone to realize there was two of them, and now its just a Bit. Theyre both very very close to Puffin, who’s the only one to know(Rime totally knows). They just think its funny to see how many moons it takes before they get caught(its been nearly a year). Their personalities are opposites, but both the twins and Puffin find it soso funny that its taking SO long for anyone else to notice.
Anyways some fun facts: Finch and Heron are also twins but aren’t identical but WERE as kits, so no one knows which is older bc they got swapped. a LOT.
Puffin was adopted and is the youngest in the cult but insists that theyre littermates with Finch and Heron.
Puffin is also cross-eyed. Puffin is a tortoiseshell. Puffin also refers to itself in the third person semi-regularly and exclusively uses it/its when doing so. Puffins design is one of my favorites ive drawn :)
Rime also did die-die. No one knows why he didnt STAY dead and he doesnt. talk about it at all. Not even to Opal. they refuse to talk about what they mightve seen while dead. In reality, Rime didnt see much of anything, but it felt like an out of body experience that he cant rlly remember otherwise.
Rime doesnt need to breathe. He has to do that manually, and Opal is the only cat that isnt horrified when he doesnt breathe. Rime also doesnt need to eat as often. Had Rime perma-died, Opal would’ve legacy named one of her kits after him!
Even funner fact: in my original ideas for this universe, Rime was going to be a villain! I decided to scrap that idea when i got too attached to make Rime evil, but i toyed around with other cult members, including Hound and Puffin, being villains.
In the end, i just made a whole other group who’s leader is purposefully not sympathetic.

As of right now, it's a rlly long hiatus. Around the last update, I realized I didn't really know where to take the rest of the fic, and had migrated further into a different fandom and started writing fics there. I haven't been particularly active in WC for a long time, and it's been a mixture of the fandoms general demeanor about the books, and art block.
I intend to take it back up and fully rewrite it, with a better plan for it, I just haven't gotten the chance to yet. I have no intentions to abandon it, I just haven't popped in to set a hiatus notice on it yet.
leafpool spent her entire life caring for thunderclan and protecting them and when they figured out she had kids w someone from another clan they all turned their backs on her and did nothing to help her
and i KNOW she’s just a fictional cat but she’s real to ME!!! and it makes me so mad that no one but squirrelflight stuck up for her. she spent her whole life caring for thunderclan and putting them first but everyone was just like “meh” when she had to step down as medicine cat and either didn’t stand up for her OR joined in whenever cats from other clans would talk badly abt her….every thunderclan cat minus squirrelflight is FAKE

and probably non-warriors but still cat,, stuff. bc my interests have shifted moderately from JUST warriors(cough, i havent fucking read the latest books yet)
rlly that just means (most likely)unnamed characters from other interests(not maintagged or even tagged at all, I don’t want to get into other fandom spaces when this acct is intended to be primarily warriors), and original characters.
when i say shadowsight did nothing wrong i’m not joking btw. like it’s good and adds a lot to his character that his actions had repercussions and cause his peers to view him negatively but nothing he did was a moral failing. by listening to ashfur’s commands he was literally just doing his job as a medicine cat. like the text keeps repeating how he “never actually talked to starclan” and continuity error aside ashfur IS a starclan cat and the clans teach you that starclan is infallible. literally anyone else in his place would have made the same mistake and that’s the part of his narrative that really frustrates me, not just that he was treated badly within itself. like the most disappointing thing about tbc is how it dances around the fact that ashfur is from starclan and can only logically be drawing his supernatural prowess from starclan so as to avoid any actual criticism of starclan’s authority and how putting dead citizens who are ultimately just as human and capable of making mistakes as everyone else in a position equivalent to god might not actually be that good of an idea and instead just acts as though shadowsight is a shortsighted misguided patsy for not being able to somehow intuit that the starclan cat he was talking to just happened to have ill intent
i get the Point of the names but I also think it’d be so much cooler if all of the three were named after birds
i think it’d tie them in closer together in a way that Hollyleaf and Ivypool just wouldn’t have, they aren’t part of the three, and they arent signified as being named after types of birds. they’re outsiders to their own litters, and to the prophecy, except to be given grief after grief
