shipping isn’t about what’s canon, yes, but that changes when there is a canonically lgbtq character. lgbtq people get very little representation in the media, especially from books written in the 19th century, so it is extremely unfair to take that away from them, not to mention oppressive and homophobic. enjolras is one of the few canonically lgbtq characters, and there are millions, if not billions, of straight characters. why do you have to take this specific character away from them?

idk if you knew this but part of fanfiction is that it is a transformative work that takes the source text and explores new possibilities. enjolras breaking his homosociality to include women in his politics is not unprecedented; in the years since st just more women had become politically active, and women fought and died on the 32 barricades. having enjolras learn to recognize them as possible comrades and fellow humans and so romance options is not at erasure or impossible.
