âThen maybe you should actually talk to him. Yeah, love. People love their friends, Mel. I donât know if heâs in love with youâŠYouâd have to talk to him.â
He exhaled deeply and turned around, putting out the fire. âJust fucking go, Melinoe. I donât feel like explaining myself to you,â he pocketed his wand and looked up at the sky. Everything was too difficult to explain and he knew itâd do no good, anyway.
âDo you think Iâm just talking about you?! Iâm talking about everyone.â He stood up. âNo one ever fucking needs me, why the hell do you think Iâm soââ he circles his fingers around his head, searching for the word, ââso fucking insane. Iâm happy you found the right fucking guy for you but that doesnât mean I canât feel like shit when everyone around me is happy and Iâm nothing.â
âOkay, you have to realize that you push people away. Being rude and dismissive isnât helping if you want people to need you. You treat others the way you want to be treated.â Way to sound like a scolding mother, Mel. âAnd Iâm pretty sure thereâs more reasons as to why youâre insane, just saying.. But actually Iâm telling you this because you need to hear it: stop complaining about being unhappy and do something about it. I know I did.â
âI donât have to please you. You have a boyfriend for that.â He sighed, focusing on the fire still. âSo I am not needed. Nor am I ever needed, apparently.â
âHe isnât my boyfriend, how many fucking times do I need to say that so it sticks in your thick skull? But no, you know what? Even if he was, get over it.â Distancing herself more and more from where he was, Mel let out a small laugh. âAnd oh, you wanna wallow in self-pity about ânot being neededâ? Fine, mope around the stupid fire all night. Youâve never truly put me first -- you never needed me, and Iâve given you too many chances. So just go fuck yourself, Lucas. Itâs done.â Yeah, her anger was definitely subduing itself.
âWell maybe if you werenât so bad at trying to please me,â Pulling her back back around her, she stood up from where she was sitting, getting ready to actually leave. Because while her anger may have been subduing, there wasnât any point of arguing with him. Like usual. âYou wouldnât have that issue.â
âI know who you mean,â he snapped, rolling his eyes and bringing his hand back in. âAnd I asked you not to speak of him.â He closed his eyes and cracked his neck, trying to think of ways to avoid talking. âBecause.â
âNo need to get jealous, Lucas.â Holding back a small laugh at how fussy he suddenly got, Mel just shrugged. âFine, then I guess I can always go back to the castle. Since you know, you arenât holding up on your end of the deal.â
âYou know, itâs an honest mistake -- Iâm still the same height.â And with that, she pulled herself up from the bed and went over to where Micah pointed. Grabbing an extra glass and pouring some of the alcohol (just a little, there was no need for her to over do herself) for herself. Once she finished with that, Mel went back over to the bed and sat down. âSo, you know how Salvador has been sending me all those letters, right?â
âNot trying to appear creepy, but the owl IS coming back so I know you've been getting these. You also probably know that I'm staying at Lyse's for the summer so if you dropped by I'd be there and we could talk? Because I really think we need to talk because if our friendship is really ending there are some things you need to know. - S. C.â
From the fourth letter from Salvador, Mel wanted to scream. It was frustrating, yet she continued to take them from the poor (most likely irritated) owl. Why? Because no matter what she said - to herself or others - she (for some reason) liked that he was sending them. Despite the bad blood that happened, it showed Sal at least cared enough to talk about it.
But Mel was just so... stubborn -- determined not to cave, not to write back - certainty not to meet up with him and hear whatever âexcuseâ he came with.
Though, while not sending anything in return had been easy; writing a response was difficult to not after some time. Alas, the moment Mel seized the fourth letter from the owl, she neglected to realize the letter she did in fact write was left out on her desk.
And that damned owl - treated poorly and exhausted from running messages to simply be ignored - snatched it as a prize of maybe (just maybe) being rewarded with a treat. For, literally, once in this entire situation.
Sal, youâre still a jerk.
Still an attractive jerk Iâm still mad. More mad at how I canât stay mad and miss you you think writing me letters will help. Okay maybe itâs my fault on that because I just donât reply to you, but Salazarâs sake, Sal I just canât. I can, but you know, Iâm sort of scared because I donât think I ever wanted anyone like this. Itâs weird but I think I like it and I donât know how to properly deal with it. You know Iâm not even upset about the werewolf thing. Really, despite what my father and aunt have taught me about them... Youâre different, like even if I fell for you just knowing about âpureblood youâ; it doesnât make up who you are, and that sounds really cheesy and gross and I really hate this.
You know after we fought, I met up with Lucas. We talked, had a small bonfire near the forest... but somehow during that time I realized I still couldnât stop thinking about you and how youâre so... refreshing compared to him. Iâm glad I saw the light on how it could never truly work out with him. Saying one thing, doing another. Well, that reminded me of you in some way due to the... circumstances of our last alone time. But it was funny, really - not in the joking way or anything - Lucas and I talked about you. We never said your name, always referring to you as âheâ or âhimâ... but we knew and he seemed genuinely bitter. I donât know about you, but I found that hilarious on some level. Maybe Iâm just cruel. Except he did say he wanted to talk to me about something involving emotions (we never did, though, because heâs worse than I am).
But none of that makes up for what happened with you and me. As much as it does kill me to ignore you, properly. You say you want to talk. Want to meet up somewhere -- I wouldnât be so opposed of I had a better feeling of what to expect. Honestly I have no idea what to expect and that, too, scares me. Yes, I know youâre staying with Lyse. She told me all about how you turned it into a man-cave. Perhaps someone should have warned her about your dirty habits (even if they are repulsive... and youâre used to them... I still suggest you take more care of hygiene, please).
Maybe Iâll drop by to pick her up for something. And maybe, if youâre awake at that time, we can talk. Iâll make no promises that I canât - wonât, rather - keep. I donât think our friendship is ending. At least, I really hope it isnât. In time, I want us to actually repair it; really, I do... itâs just so... you know.. Anyway, youâre not even going to read this (as Iâd rather be dead than actually send it back with that brooding little owl of yours); but just know I do miss you and your stupid, stupid jokes.Â
Maybe weâll work whatever this is out some day soon.
And again you arenât actually receiving this, so I donât know why Iâm signing, but... authenticity, I guess? Take care of yourself and try not to drive Lyse insane.
âLetters, still? Yeah, heâs my friend but you are too. A while ago, Iâm so sorry I didnât tell you, MelâŠI just kind of put everything together.â
âNo, no itâs fine. Heâs your friend, too, and hey... I mean, I guess you already know about the letters. Literally get one like every day... But itâs whatever. So, when did you find out about the âalter egoâ?â
âFine, I'll pay but I want the best seats in the place.â
âOh, Sal... ah, I mean... We can just ignore him â I mean, I've... been doing it for awhile, and... you know there are always other places we can meet? Besides I'm sure he'd probably prefer to roll around in dirt, somewhere, anyway..â
