DRAUGHT OF PEACE

Because he suffers from anxiety in secret (or at least, so he thinks), Frank has gotten this potion from Pomfrey quite a few times. It soothes his spiraling brain and grounds him back to reality when things seem grim inside his head. There’s something so calming about the vapor that floods from the bottle, something so unique. He’s well aware of the possibly horrific repercussions of a wrongly brewed potion, and that scares him, but there are times where is so desperate that he doesn’t care. He puts his trust in Pomfrey. In this homework assignment, he doesn’t go into details about how he feels. He doesn’t entirely trust Slughorn with this information, or ANY teacher for that matter.

EXTRA CREDIT

INGREDIENTS

Powdered moonstone

Syrup of hellebore

Powdered unicorn horn

Powdered porcupine quills

INSTRUCTIONS

Add powdered moonstone until the potion turns green.

Stir until the potion turns blue.

Add powdered moonstone until the potion turns purple.

Allow to simmer until the potion turns pink.

Add syrup of hellebore until the potion turns turquoise.

Allow to simmer until the potion turns purple.

Shake powdered porcupine quills vigorously until they are ready and then add until the potion turns red.

Stir until the potion turns orange.

Add more porcupine quills until the potion turns turquoise.

Allow to simmer till the potion turns purple.

Add powdered unicorn horn until the potion turns pink.

Stir until the potion turns red.

Allow to simmer until the potion turns purple.

Add more powdered moonstone until the potion turns grey.

Allow the potion to simmer until it turns orange.

Add more powdered porcupine quills until the potion turns white. Stirring

Simmering lowers heat. Add exactly 7 drops of hellebore.

——— She was regretting she said that to him. Sometimes she forgot who Frank Longbottom was. He was probably gonna walk away awkwardly. Good job, Alice. She was prepared to walk away, hating herself. —- not the lips on her own. Was this real life? Was this a fantasy? One of just her daydreams? She prayed it wasn’t. God his lips were so fucking soft. She didn’t know what to do, frozen in shock and when he did pull away, she stayed in that state.

Four years she had dreamed of this moment. And it finally happened. She was speechless; breathless . She finally exhaled slowly. She didn’t say a word before her hands cupped his face and she pulled him back down.

Her lips met with his again, fitted perfectly like they were made for each other. Her heart was racing and she felt streams of tears fall down her cheeks. Happiness. Relief. It all washed through her as she kissed him. She didn’t want to pull away but she did need to breathe. But she didn’t pull away far, lips inches from his as she sniffled. Kiss bruised lips pulled up into a small before a small laugh left her. ” Four years, Frank Longbottom… four years I wanted you to do that…. four years my heart has wanted you…” Her voice was but a whisper, breathes shaken.

He paused, tender hands grasping at her own on his face. Was she crying? Of course she was, this was APPARENTLY four years in the making. God, he was such a jerk. How did he remain so oblivious for so long? That was what made the kiss so bittersweet. It was amazing, everything he hoped for and more, but there was this hint of self-hatred that crawled up inside him. She deserved better than that. “Four years? Jesus, I hope that was worth it.”

But what if it wasn’t? What if he was... disappointing? She probably had this PERFECT idea of him, but how would she react to how he really was? Anxious, unpredictable, and sometimes a bit rash, that was all a part of him. Frank was well aware of all his positive attributes, but he feared those would go unnoticed. But that was all in the future, he tried to stay focused on the present moment. In this moment, he was falling in love with Alice Vane. He needed to remember that. “I’m so glad I finally did it. Now, I can’t imagine us any other way. This is... this is perfect.” So instead of thinking any more, he gently pulled her in and laid a soft kiss on her lips.

” I’m not incredible…. ” her voice cracked. At this point, she didn’t think so. People hated her because of her blood, her parents, because she kicked their ass once in a fight. But if she was so incredible… why hadn’t anyone made her feel as such? And him saying all these things about her, it really broke her. God, didn’t he understand how she felt? How his voice and very touch made her swoon and long. At this point she was just tempted to take up Fenwick’s proposal for a date. He was a good guy… but nothing compared to Frank.

Someone REALLY got to her, hadn’t they? There was this unusual and kind of unnerving feeling within his chest. He tried to shake it, but to no avail. It ached, puzzling and distracting him for a moment. Frank was hopelessly confused as to the source. Was it sorrow? He certainly felt upset and distressed by what she had expressed to him, perhaps that was it. To an extent, he shared some of her feelings. As a half-blood, he didn’t get as much shit as muggle-borns, but he still wasn’t ‘pure’. He’d had his share of comments. It had gotten to the point where he just didn’t mention his blood status because he just really DIDN’T care. “Yes you are, Alice Vane. I don’t think I’ve ever told a lie in my life. I won’t start now.”

Rolling his eyes and crossing his arms, Frank contemplated the thought for a bit. WAS he happy? He didn’t think he was unhappy, but there was some part of him that longed for something different. Was it love he wanted? If you asked him, probably not. “I mean... maybe. I dunno, Lily.” The young man started pacing around the room, a habit he’d developed when he was overthinking things. He HATED when he overthought things. “I am content where I am right now, yes. Let’s leave it at that.”

“ all my life i’ve been good, but now i’m thinking ‘what the hell’ “

Who was HE to stop him? Sure, Frank wasn’t exactly a ‘bad boy’, but if Yi wasn’t going to hurt anyone he saw no issue with it. The Hufflepuff sighs, remembering the mayhem and corruption in the halls with every passing day. Now, Yi didn’t seem like the kind of guy to cause any problems, but then again... NOBODY seemed like that kind to Frank. Serial killers could be surrounding him and he’d try to see their positive attributes. Whatever ‘what the hell’ consisted of, Frank thought it would be best to take the slightest precaution. 

“Sure, do whatever you’d like.” He shrugged. “Just don’t be an ass. Nobody likes an ass, rebellious or not.”

“ just turn around boy, let me hit that “

Frank froze. She was really trying to say that all along, wasn’t she? Sure it wasn’t the most ROMANTIC way of putting it, but he probably wouldn’t have figured it out any other way. Love was a mystery to him, and he saw it as clarification. Simplicity was all he needed. Honestly, nothing about the two of them seemed complicated now. She made him happy. Alice was everything he could ever ask for. GOD, he was so mad it took him so long to notice. He was trapped in his own mind, so many anxieties that just seemed USELESS now. Frank was always so worried about whether or not he’d find anyone, and that was why he avoided it at any chance he got. He’d thought of her often, but he always imagined her with someone else. Someone better. He actually laughed at himself for a bit.

“Wait, are you serious? Because it’s a funny joke and all, but if you were serious I’d be really okay with it… like REALLY okay. Is that weird? Fuck. I’m gonna do something stupid and I’m praying you’re okay with it.”  

He wasn’t thinking anymore. Frank cupped her cheeks, pulling her in close and kissing her lips. Was this what Lily was talking about? Was this love? Because it felt like it. It felt like everything he was told. His heart was racing, his stomach fluttering. He still couldn’t believe this was happening. How did he manage to pull this off? How did he have a girl so AMAZING in his arms and on his lips. In this moment, that girl was his world. She was all that mattered.

Pulling back quickly, he spoke frantically. “Please tell me that was as good for you as it was for me or else I made a HUGE mistake and I’m really sorry.”

“OR I can be happy and safe by myself?” He pleaded for her to drop it, but she obviously never listened. Was love really this important? Frank could think of a million things more pressing than his love life. “Is that such an odd concept? Everyone else seems to think so.” It was honestly becoming a case of: if they kept telling him to do it, he wanted to do it even less.

she couldn’t stop the tears but his hand was comforting her. There were times when she wished she wasn’t born with this blood but at the same time, she wouldn’t trade her parents in for anything. He sighed and held her a bit tighter. There was really nothing more he could do, wasn’t there? She was right to be a bit scared, Hogwarts didn’t seem as safe as it used to. Everyone seemed to be at each other’s throats. It seemed to physically hurt Frank that people like Alice got caught in the chaos. “You shouldn’t have to...” His voice cracked. “You really shouldn’t have to fear for your life and the lives of those you love. That’s a miserable existence. Someone so incredible as you doesn’t deserve that kind of life.”

“Nothing! ABSOLUTELY nothing!” It was a rare occasion, seeing Frank Longbottom get angry. He tried to keep himself as cool and collected as possible, but his friends kept getting blamed for some bullshit they had no control over. That was something he wasn’t going to let slide anymore. He crossed his arms, almost pouting. “Purebloods don’t THINK before they talk. They just go and accuse you guys of random shit and no one seems to stop them. Honestly, they’re cowards and assholes. You didn’t DO anything wrong. This isn’t fair. It’s not fair that they get to walk around like they own the place.”

He hated that he agreed with him. Why DID everyone want them to go out and date? It honestly didn’t seem like an important thing, and yet it seemed to be a big topic circling around the school. Frank would be perfectly happy being single ( mostly because he couldn’t imagine anyone falling for him ) so why couldn’t they just let him be? Apparently Regulus was feeling the pressure too. Frank smiled, digging his hands into his pockets.

“Seriously? You too?” He laughed. “Why don’t WE just date each other out of spite?”

“Hey, I MAY be a bad at this but I am NOT clueless.” Yes he was, he knew he was. Everyone else knew he was too, Lily especially. She was pretty much Hogwarts’s love guru. Pretty much everyone wanted her and she knew exactly how to handle those situations with grace. “And I’m pretty sure I know what the right direction is: AWAY. Love is really not my thing, Lily.”
