tony didn’t sleep much. some days were better than others to be sure, and it wasn’t like he caught a whole lot of winks to begin with, but it was different now. he’d seen too many things. for god’s sake he’d just been sent through a fucking portal back in time to help save the entire world, god forbid him if his brain raced with too many possibilities from time to time. the point was, tonight had been a bad night. he’d woken up in a cold sweat, nightmares that were more like flashes of memories bounced around in his brain and pushed him out of bed and into the lab. it wasn’t just for him to use ( they didn’t have the space for that kind of thing what with all the new roomies they were getting ) and, obviously, it wasn’t anywhere near as up to date as what he was used to, but he could come and go as he pleased, so he managed. ( loudly. and annoyingly. at least that’s what some of the others said, tony happened to think he was a great roommate, thank you very much ).

that was where he was when the commotion started. tinkering away on something completely inconsequential when suddenly the sound of glass -- as if all of the windows had been shattered at once -- seemed to shake the entire mansion. there were footsteps and voices and people running back and forth, some suiting up as they went, paying almost no mind to the one man alone in the back corner of the lab. tony knew he had to do something. whatever was going on, he had to get off his ass and help -- it was why he was here in the first place. but as the noises got louder and more violent and the realization that the mansion had been broken into ( invaded, they’d been invaded. there were people here that weren’t supposed to be here, and they were all supposed to be safe -- ) began to sink in, tony felt himself unable to move. he wasn’t sure if he had shut his eyes or if his vision blacked out, all he knew was that it was dark. it was dark and he couldn’t move -- couldn’t fucking breathe, it felt like something was choking him -- and there were people in the mansion and he needed to get to his suit.

tony snorted, strutting into the room with an air of overconfidence that only comes with knowing too much about one thing -- although, technically speaking, tony knew too much about multiple subjects, but that was besides the point. most people expected ( or maybe just assumed ) that he preferred more modern methods of playing music -- iphones and streaming and the like -- but in actuality, he had a vast collection of records hidden away in his lab.

“ it’s called vinyl, zeus. and you’re not going to find better sound quality anywhere, don’t listen to what anyone else says. “

with that he plucked the record out of thor’s hands, placing it delicately on the ( actually pretty impressive for the time -- although he wasn’t all that keen to admit it to anyone ) stereo system before placing the needle on the record and letting it play.
