merry christmas liza! @ofkidas
i sent this thru the secret santa thing but everyone has been busy as heck. ILY, I LOVE KIDA, GOODBYE.
âI took a deep breath and listened to the old brag of my heart. I am, I am, I am.âÂ
merry christmas melissa!! I havenât been the greatest secret santa but here, have this attempt at a thing & I hope it isnât wildly inaccurate and awful <3 @jeanuhgeum
leizhaosâ:
âI donât need diplomacy, Iâm not some Emperor. Iâm not here to make friends.â
âOh right, my mistake. Youâre just here to hate on benders and blame them for all your problems, how could I forget.â
jeanuhgeumâ:
Jean was not unused to having unusual things happen to her. As it were, she found herself to be rather unlucky on the whole. So having an iguana parrot pluck her belongings from her lunchbox and make a mess of them was, much to her disappointment, not surprising in the least. She signed, smiled, and began reclaiming her lunch, careful not to let her fingers get too close to the creatureâs mouth.Â
âI wish I could say this was the strangest thing to happen to me today. Itâs not.â She pushed her glasses up the bridge of her nose to get a better look at the girl. âWhere are you travelling from? Oh, uh, if you donât mind my asking. Thatâs nosy of me, isnât it? Shoot.â Jean stared down into her bag, pretending to inventory its contents.Â
The expression on Kidaâs birdâs face was so comically disappointed at the loss of lunch that Kida almost laughed. Served the bird right, she thought, for getting caught. Then again, it also meant Kida went without lunch so really it was just a lose-lose situation. Bloody bird. She blinked, rubbing the bridge of her nose tiredly as she listened to the other girlâs chatter.
âWhat could possibly be stranger than an iguana parrot trying to steal your lunch? â Kida asked, genuinely curious. The only thing stranger than that might be a person and bird working together to steal from strangers, however Kida was fairly sure the other girl was in the dark about their particular partnership, and unlikely to have been a victim of it twice in one day. âIâm from a northern Earth Kingdom village,â she replied vaguely, unwilling to get into it more than that. Wasnât like anyone would know its name, anyway. âAre you from Republic City?â
leizhaosâ:
âAt least you can quickly pick up hints. I was worried there for a moment.â
âMuch as I live to disappoint, Iâm afraid being an earth bender isnât quite the same as having a head full of rocks. You werenât subtle, believe me. Might want to work on those diplomacy skills, wouldnât want another unfortunate bender to be a mistake your judgement as a threat.âÂ
vvycaoâ:
âThatâs..true, I guess.â If she was being honest, Vy was taken aback by the otherâs response. Though she couldnât blame them. It was difficult to stay open when on the street. It paid more to be secretive. Of yourself and of information pertaining to others. âWith the war, I wonât be surprised to see others claiming alliance with nations other than their own. Weâre all displaced now.â
âItâs Republic City, not part of any single nation, guess that means all those who live here are republicans or something, huh? Not Earth Nation or Water Tribe or whatever. Canât imagine many people claiming to be fire nation, though.â Kida would rather die than pretend to be Fire Nation, even if it was to save her own life. âAre you one of those people claiming alliance with a nation other than your own?â
leizhaosâ:
âOf course I normally grab at my sword, but not when I come into contact with just anyone. Just people I perceive as a threat.â Lei stepped back, as if to prove a point that she wasnât the dangerous one here, the one who could so easily move their foot and bring down a building.
No, Lei refused to be the monster.
Not even officially in the city yet and Kida was already picking fights. Oh how disappointed her Village elders would be, after all they went through trying to curb Kidaâs temper. Despite the non-benderâs gesture Kida couldnât quite bring herself to lower the earth beneath her feet to ground level again. âOh, pardon me for assuming something barrelling into me out of nowhere wasnât a threat. Next time Iâll choose sorry over safe. Might get mugged or whatever, but itâs all fuckinâ good because I wonât be lording over anyone.â
vvycaoâ:
She didnât have much â just heaps of thick paper and sticks and some inks. A few change of clothes, as well. She shook her head and smiled. âThatâs quite alright. I donât have a lot of experience with animals myself, so I canât really give too much comments.â She leaned down to pick up a few items. âWhere are you from, if you donât mind me asking?â
"Itâs not really any of your business,â was her curt reply. Kida kept herself to herself for a reason, and she did mind people who thought they had the right to stick their noses where they didnât belong -- like Kidaâs business. No one knew Kida and that was how she liked it. Her meagre attempts at friendliness, however fake they mightâve been, quickly evaporated. âI didnât think it mattered where people were from anymore, anyway,â she muttered, bitterness creeping into her voice.Â
leizhaosâ:
The tone of the person speaking with her was enough to make her blood boil. There had been a time when anyone who spoke to her like this could easily have been reported, especially if they werenât fire nation. Now it didnât matter. The nations had all started merging together, and where borders were, now there were merely questions.
Leiâs eyes snapped to meet her accuser. âNeither,â she replied, her voice firm, but her hand twitching as she felt herself trip. An earth bender.
The realization alone made Lei furious. She was tired of benders and their penchant for lording their abilities over other people. She hadnât enjoyed it in the fire nation army, and she certainly didnât enjoy it here. The ground was never level.Â
âDo you normally lord your bending abilities over other people when they make a simple mistake, or did I just get lucky?
Growing up in a small village meant growing up surrounded by non-benders. It wasnât like Kida was the only bender -- of course there were more than that, but many benders got poached by the large cities to work as guards or such things. Her parents had drilled it into her to always be respectful of non-benders, treat them as equals and never use her bending powers against them. Kida had honestly tried to stick to these values, but it was easier said than done when one was travelling alone. In any case, she had no intention of leaving herself vulnerable for the sake of values. Especially when the non-bender in question was an arsehole.Â
âLording over you? Now thatâs a fun idea.â A competitive glint gleamed in Kidaâs eye as she took the comment literally, raising the earth up so she was looking down on the other. âThis is so much better. â Kida narrowed her gaze. âDo you normally grab your sword and look like you want to impale people everytime you come into contact with them? I canât be blamed for self defence.âÂ
notsorrysoraâ:
âYes, no, okay, I might have been going a bit fast. There was no one around though. Well, I mean, you were of course. But I didnât see you. Well, thatâs a bad example. Point is, Iâve got great reflexes, and I did stop in time, didnât I? Youâre all in one piece, see.â Sora patted the seat of her motorbike lovingly, giving an animated sigh.Â
Kida blinked, looking between the motorbike and its owner, back to the motorbike then its owner again, frowning. âDespite the fact it was me you almost ran into, I genuinely canât tell if youâre talking to me or your motorbike.â
âThe whole point is that you arenât supposed to get caught,â Kida hissed to the iguana parrot perched on her shoulder, looking rather smug for a bird that just got caught with its proverbial hand in the cookie jar -- or, in this case, a sticky beak in someone elseâs food pack attempting to steal it for Kida. It was a system theyâd perfected over their years together, when the damn bird felt like cooperating. Turning back to the person whoâs belongings were now somewhat strewn all over the place, Kida opted for a somewhat apologetic look. It wasnât in the least genuine, in fact it seemed more like a grimace, but sympathy food was always worth a shot. âSorry,â she said flatly, shooting her bird another glare, âit seems someone here forgot his manners. Weâve been on the road for a while.â
leizhaosâ:
Lei knew the journey to Republic City would be a challenging one, especially given the fact that every other person seemingly had the same plan that she did. The city called to people, a beacon of a new world amidst the still smoldering destruction. For Lei, she was a part of the destruction, another unsung casualty in the war that lasted over 100 years. Peace, therefore, became a word that was hard to swallow, and even harder to say. The Fire Nation had created soldiers, bred them, bribed them, and bought them. Now they were free to find a new purpose, but what if they didnât have any?
Lei clutched her traveling jacket, feeling a chill overcome her. This was a place where she could be remade. Reborn. But where to begin? Her feet started down the main road, as she watched buildings being built, and people with smiles permanently etched onto their faces. Relief still pouring out of them. Actually, Lei had been so focused on one particular woman, with gray slowly enveloping her brown hair, that she hadnât noticed the person she abruptly ran into.
âOof,â the impact hadnât been particularly hard, but it was jarring nonetheless. The whole place made Lei feel like she was spinning and she instinctively grabbed the sword that swung at her side.
Usually, the earth told Kida if someone was approaching. Or rather, Kida sensed their footsteps through the earth. Too many years of being a wanderer had sharpened her senses and ability to use the earth to see -- it was either learn fast, or be dead. At the very least, robbed of what meagre possessions sheâd acquired. But Kida was tired, hungry and probably dehydrated -- admittedly, part of the reason she was heading to Republic City was for at least a few nights of decent sleep and food, provided she could find somewhere that would take her in. Focusing on her surroundings had been the last thing on Kidaâs mind as she trudged along, not noticing.
âWatch it,â she snapped, instinct kicking in as she stomped her foot, raising the earth beneath the otherâs feet in an attempt to throw them off balance. Seeing it was a fellow traveller did nothing to sweeten Kidaâs sour temper. âAre you blind, or just an idiot?â
I donât know how to want without consuming.
