She seemed to find the beautiful books, currently empty and waiting for a young witch to fill them up, but their covers seemed to sparkle like jewels. He nodded as she seemed to agree. He set down the box on a low bench and folded it open. He withdrew a wrapped. Has this girl never heard of cupcakes or was it merely that she knew a different word for it. Anything was possible really he had found during his time at Hecate. “For eating. It isn’t .. healthy food. Just sort of a fun food. A treat.” He unwrapped one chocolate cake and held it out to her. “Try it?” he offered.
Lottie’s head quirked inquisitively, her attention immediately on the object extended. For eating. Good. The undine was starving. She took the treat and bit into it, eyes widening when the sweet hit her tongue. It was magnificent. Far superior to the raw fish she regularly tore into or the crustaceans she caught with her teeth in the water. Once she’d swallowed, Lottie’s smile was wide. “I like this treat. Here.” She’d stuffed a few anchovies into her pocket at breakfast earlier and she presented a few to him, in offering. That’s what friends did here, wasn’t it? Exchanged.
Quentin looked down at the box and back at the window display before looking over at the pretty young woman, “I … ummm … was talking about the new grimoires on display.” He nodded toward the bookstore. “The box mostly has clothes, cheetos and hostess cupcakes.” He paused and considered before offering quietly, “Ummm… do you want a cupcake?”
Lottie stepped forward with the conversational invitation, stepping forward and looking at what he’d indicated. And... yes... the grimoires, as he’d called them, looked beautiful. Ornate. For a few moments, the undine’s fingers traced the glass of the window. She only turned back towards him when he offered something. A cupcake. “Yes,” Lottie answered, lighting up. “I want a cupcake. For eating?”
Nikolaos loved the quiet weeks at the academy as much as they unsettled him. Whenever the other’s left the place, he felt powerless, unable to do what he was essentially hired for and yes he knew that his responsibilities ended outside of the Academies ground, but that didn’t stop his inner bear to feel responsible.
But today was the day when all those who left the school for the holidays came back, familiar scents returning to school that calmed the old bear, mixing with scents of new people he had yet to meet, so he decided to leave behind his bearskin for the day. He knew that at the beginning some weren’t able to listen, were either too scared or just didn’t understood that it was his only way to communicate in his bear form, not to mention that many felt uncomfortable if someone else’s voice started echoing in their own mind. When he shifted back, he was about to pick up the clothes he had stored in a bag in a hollow tree when he felt the presence of someone else and so he turned around, looking them straight into the face.
Lottie had yet to navigate silence when it came to her human form. In the water, she could move quietly. She could be positively deadly. She could be a predator there, striking when necessary, but here, she was nothing but a church mouse. Sights and smells were still new and she ventured upon one that was virtually foreign. And there he was, noticing her, and what else could she do but admit to her presence? Lottie’s lips pressed together in mild annoyance; she’d wanted to observe and not hear, but... perhaps these preternatural creatures, the ones that were not like her, were more astute in their senses than she was here. The air didn’t quite move like the water, and this was something that they, on land, were used to. Perhaps, Lottie reasoned, she would learn. “No,” she answered, flatly, eyes turning back to the grounds of the school. “When had you heard me?”
It was nice of his parents to mail things to him. There were a few mortal items he liked after all. He walked out of the Kahina post office and was briefly distracted by a window display, “Oh wow…. that’s beautiful.” he murmured to himself.
The undine was still relatively unfamiliar with the way that the world operated. A year had taught her so much -- language being the most important by far -- but she still had much to learn. So when the other expressed interest in the box he was holding, Lottie peeked her head around the corner, pleased grin slipping over her lips. “Beautiful,” she repeated. “Yes. Very beautiful. I like... box.”
[BRIDGET SATTERLEE | FEMALE | SHE/HER] Hecate Academy welcomes LOTTIE TOMAS, the 19 year old UNDINE. LOTTIE is described as OPEN-HEARTED and INQUISITIVE, but can also be PETULANT. LOTTIE is into VOYEURISM, IN ALL FORMS; WATCHING THE TIDES, WATCHING OTHERS LOCKED IN PASSION. We wish them luck in finding their Witch as well as scholastic success.
Everyone meet Lottie! Lottie is a little bit of an interesting bird. Here are the bullet points:
Lottie was born to a large family. Thirteen brothers and sisters, to be concise. She is the youngest. She doesn’t know many of them, as they are decades older than her.
But her family swam in something of a tightknit community who believed that all beings on land were evil.
Enough of her little clan had experienced terrible things and Lottie was under the impression that anyone on the outside was evil.
Arranged unions were very much a part of her culture. She had a planned union when she was eleven. She thought this boy was perfect. They grew up together, knowing that they would be mated one day.
And then, when she was nearly eighteen, he came with news. He’d been up to the surface, he’d met those who walked on land. And they were kind and generous, unlike what they’d all been told for years.
It took Lottie a few months to get over her initial concerns, but eventually, little inquisitive thing as she was, she went with her betrothed to land.
He was right; everyone was wonderful. Lottie didn’t speak their language, didn’t know their customs, but she broke free from the clan and left.
And that included leaving behind the one she was supposed to wed.
Lottie lived on the outskirts of towns for about a year, taking in everything that she could, her sharp mind ravenous for new information. She soon learned how to speak and communicated. She picked a name that people could pronounce.
She was identified as an undine by another supernatural creature when she returned to the water one day, out of necessity. This creature is the one who informed her about the Academy.
And now, she wants an education. Why wouldn’t she?
Lottie has sworn never to permanently return to the water. She feels betrayed by her entire clan, feeling as though they lied to her.
Connections:
Members of her clan.
The undine she was engaged to.
The supernatural who found her and introduced her to Hecate.
Any measure of friends/foes/people she’s met along the way.
She’s pretty, uh... unpracticed in the ways of sex (aka: VIRGIN AF), so I’d like someone to see that through with. I imagine she’ll be a little freak when it’s all said and done.
Literally anything else! HMU with your own ideas, and I’ll see you on the dash!
Wow, y’all, I am so excited to get started! I come back from a few days away and I get to play! Hurray! I’ll be working on a few things, character details etc., and then I’ll get started! In the meantime, please feel free to hit me up for plottage or more.
