Biography -Â
Before the war came, Malachi was happy enough to be a guard, look after the Seelie royal family, life was fine as it was. Until the war came.Â
Thatâs when everything about his life changed, it was constant fighting and loss. It took a real toll on the once bright, happy Seelie who loved what he did for a living, ripping everything out that made him him as he became just another number on a list to be sent out and fight on a daily basis.Â
When the war ended, Malachi was one of only a few survivors left, everyone he ever knew, spoke to, was friendly with were gone and he was the only one left. Because of this, Malachi retreated from Seelie society all together, threw up his glamour and has had it up ever since. Not many people know that heâs a Seelie due to how long that glamour has been up for.Â
A few years ago, he was diagnosed with PTSD after not being able to sleep without flashbacks for a very long time and while itâs somewhat under control now by no means is he any better and this affects any relationship he tries to get into so they never last long, this is why he also comes across grumpy or irritated at times. He also carries a lot of guilt on his shoulders still due to the war, why did he survive but others didnât? That is something he continues to grapple with.Â
Malachi had to find a hobby, something to do so now he teaches history at the university, focusing mostly on Seelie history and it is something he enjoys doing.Â
âI didnât realise Iâd signed up for a lecture. Do you do that to everyone or was I unfortunate enough to look like I gave a shit?â Grayson replied, having not even really listened to what the other had said. âSo you got any other suggestions or is everything youâre saying useless to me?â
...
Malachi raised an eyebrow at the attitude on his guy so he stood taller to his full height. âYou wanna try and calm down there, bud? I was simply pointing out that sex work isnât a bad thing, youâre the one who tried to bite my head off.âÂ
âThe reason Iâm doing this is exactly because of what happened during the war. Iâm going to make people love us Seelie again. Iâll rebuild everything,â Reyna said, adjusting her name plaque on her desk. âYou donât have to be a part of it if you donât want to, but Iâd like you to be.â
...
âI donât want the court to come back.â He finally said it out loud and put his hands on his hips. âI-I just donât. I canât deal with the Queen, King and everything that comes with it, I did my time and I refuse to do it again.â Malachi looked over at her. âWhy? Why do you want to restore a system that was so oppressive and wanât good for us seelies in the end. A whole war broke out, many lives were lost and every time I close my eyes to sleep, itâs all I can see. So no, I donât want it restored and neither should you.â
âDo it as often as possible?â Korra narrowed her eyes pretending to remember Mal âtelling herâ anything about hugging him. âYou love me reallyâ she smiled sheepishly. âHow did you not know youâre coworker, Mal?â the fae laughed, looking up as if in thought before nodding âThough no, donât answer that, itâs on brand for youâ Korra laughed, âAre you enjoying your time?â
..
Malachi gave her a look. âSure, but donât do it at all.â He then sat back in his seat again now she had unwrapped herself from him. âBecause Iâm an introvert with no friends and donât care to have them.â he raised his glass to his lips to take a drink. âNot really. Are you?â
The tug on Julianâs hand sped up his pace. He had been trying to play it cool to an extent but it was easy enough to see, let alone feel, the tension between them. âEverything you own is older than me.â He muttered but looked forward to testing that theory. After that Julian kept his mouth shut. Too focused at the task at hand to give a shit about who saw them on campus. As soon as Mal was inside his office, Julian stepped in and threw to door shut behind them. He flipped the lock back into place and turned around.Â
Julian grabbed Mal by his belt loops and pulled their bodies together. One hand shifted to his waist and the other behind his neck pulling Mal in to kiss him again. Breaking the kiss to move down Malâs jaw and neck, Julian pushed him back against a bookcase.
..
âFor a good reason.â Malachi allowed Julian to back him up against the bookcase that rattled on impact. He dragged his hands down his back and began to tug his shirt off, full of impatience as a soft groan escaped his lips. Mal was holding back at the moment despite it having been a while since anything like this had happened to him.Â
Red laughed at Malâs jab. âI agree with you there,â he said, leaning against the bar counter next to the faerie. âGood thing I know how to make a really good cocktail.â He reached out to adjust Malâs collar, since it seemed like he was definitely picking up what Red was putting down. âYou interested in trying it?â
..
Malachi glanced down at Red adjusting his collar then back up at him. âYeah?â he leaned in closer, enough to feel the other mans breath against his skin. âItâs too bad youâre not my type.â With a smile, Mal stepped back.
Being backed up against a wall had never felt so right. Trying to fight it by biting his lip, Julian let his head fall back against the wall, groaning quietly under the kiss. He knew this was a terrible idea but that made it all the better. He stayed leaning on the wall for a moment before pushing off of it with his free arm and following Malachi, âHopefully a sturdy desk too.â Â
..
Malachi was a little too eager to get them to his office so gave his hand a little tug as they walked. âMy desk is older than you and oak, of course itâs sturdy.â With a grin, he made his way towards the campus and into the building where all the staff rooms were, passing a couple of co-workers who were too busy to notice them. âRight here.â Taking his keys out, Mal opened up and stepped inside.Â
âIf youâre talking about the shrieking violet itâs a no good. I doubt they want me getting drunk there right after I just accepted a job as a bouncer. Plus why would I want to be a patron of a place where people degrade themselves. They can pay me for my services but Iâm not funding that sort of thing.â It had been the easiest job to get into or at least thatâs what he was telling himself.
..
Malachi mentally thought that Grayson looked like he just had his arsed slapped and raised an eyebrow. âUm, sex work isnât a bad thing these days, you know? These men, women and others need to live, eat and generally be here somehow.â Malachi pointed out.Â
That stutter. A smirk half formed on Julianâs lips but his breath had caught itself in his throat. âYeah.â He let the word out as he leaned back against the wall and Mal looked around. Part of his mind was trying to remind him that he had stolen Averyâs date for the night but every other part of him had already given into Malâs hands long before they found his buttons. Julianâs fingers gripped Malâs shirt, pulling him closer, they twisted tightly in the material as skin found skin. âIâve always wanted to see your office after hours, professor.â
..
Mal pressed up against Julian with a matching smirk of his own and he shuddered when he was called Professor in that tone, that had always been a weakness of his when it came to his partners. âI love it when you call me Professor like that.â Mal pressed a light kiss against his neck as he slipped his hand out of his jeans and into Julian own hand. âShould be clear.â With that, Mal quickly peered through the window before making his way away from the bar. âI have a couch in my office now.â
There were few times that Julian liked his gifts. This was one of those times. He could be bold when he already knew the answer. âBecause neither of us know how to kick a bad habit.â Julian smirked before closing the small gap between their lips. The kiss only lasted a moment before Julian pulled back, âI can think of plenty of other positions Iâd like to be in.â There werenât many times Julian was this aggressive in his behavior but their past made it so much easier.Â
..
âHm, but itâs a good bad habit to have.â Malachi smirked but the kiss was unexpected and caught him off guard, it was too late to react back as Julian already leaned away. âY-yeah?â Malachi took a look around for a moment to make sure they were in the clear before quickly undoing a couple of buttons at the bottom of Julianâs shirt and slid his hand down into his jeans. âYou got somewhere to go?â He asked quietly.Â
Reyna looked up in surprise as Mal burst into her office. She tilted her head to the side, studying for a moment before a smile brightened her face.
âUncle Malachi! Of course I recognize you,â she said, standing from her desk and hurrying over to give him a brief hug. She hadnât seen him since she was much younger, but she couldnât forget the faerie whoâd saved her life. âIâm hurt you didnât come to see me sooner. Itâs not like me taking this position was a recent thing. I admit, we havenât had the best track record lately, but I worked hard to get here. I thought youâd be proud of me.â
..
Being called Uncle even after all this time still threw him, sure, he was her uncle, but there were more than a couple of generations between them considering how old he is. At the hug, he just let her do it, not really comfortable with a display of affection like that but let it happen. âIâve been keeping my distance for many reasons.â He shrugged a little and didnât go into them. âIâm not going to lie, Iâm not the biggest fan of you going into something like this considering what happened during the war.âÂ
Grace smiled faintly at Malachiâs question. âDo you have somewhere to be? Why donât you tell me about that? What are your plans for today?â Anything to get him to talk, really. He didnât have to go into his trauma, but sheâd like to see him at least engage, build a connection. Usually her patients started talking more as they grew more comfortable with her.
..
Malachi had to sigh out loud when she asked him three questions in one hit. âLook, if you want me to talk, you got to give me a chance to actually want to answer your questions.â He told her. âBombing me with one after the other makes me less inclined to speak.â Mal shrugged his shoulders. âI donât have any plans for today, Iâm just uncomfortable and would rather leave.âÂ
Grayson pulled the cigarette from his mouth and blew out the smoke as he watched the blonde on the other side of the street disappear into a building. He took his phone out and made note on it before taking another drag from the cigarette and pushing off from the wall. âHey.â He called to a person passing nearby. âYou know any bars open this late? I need a drink.â @faerunestartersâ
..
Malachi had been heading home from the university having lost time while doing some marking, wasnât as if he was going to stop working when he got there but at least he could do it from the comfort of his own home so when Grayson called out with a question, he looked over and checked his watch. âThe strip club should still be open, they serve alcohol there.â
âWould I? That sounds interesting. I hope to find out what makes you so memorable,â Red said, looking Mal up and down slowly. âCan I buy you a drink? Cock ⌠tails are half-off, I hear.â He smirked.
..
âI do love a good cocktail.â Malachi smiled once more, okay so this was a bit too easy. âBut only when they know what theyâre doing with it. No likes a limp one.â Then he took the menu and had a look at the list of cocktails.Â
Taking things too far was Julianâs favorite game but this wasnât the reaction he expected. Mal invading the psychicâs personal space again wasnât something he hated. And that was a fact Julian did hate. Tipping his chin up defiantly, wondering exactly how far he could push Mal. âPower struggles have always been your downfall.âÂ
..
He was right, power struggles were his downfall but was that always a bad thing? Malachi did enjoy being overpowered after all. âWeâre supposed to be broken up and yet always manage to end back up in this position.â He rested a hand against the wall next to Julianâs head, he was waiting to see if the other man wanted the same thing first.
The most infuriating part of all of this to Julian was that either of them could walk away and for whatever reason neither one of them was. He sighed and put his cigarette back up to his mouth, âIf itâs so boring then why keep it up? I thought you liked a challenge.â Julian stepped a little closer, falling into an old habit as smoke poured out of his nose. âIâd say prove it but I donât believe you anyway.âÂ
..
He shouldâve stopped where they were but Malachi stepped right up to Julian, almost pressing him against the wall. The smell of the smoke didnât bother him in the slightest. âThat sounds like a challenge to me and you know how much I like a challenge.â he mirrored his previous statement and all thoughts of tinder had left Malachiâs mind. Damn these old habits.
